Mom kept texting me last night but thankfully they are okay. They were in the watch area but the bad stuff hit north of them. I ache seeing the devastation!

My son was at his friends house in Copeville. I could see on the radar that the storm was right over them. Wasn't able to get in touch with him but his friend's mom texted me saying they were in a closet and the house was shaking violently. About 10 minutes later my son called to let me know the house was destroyed but all 25 people in it were fine!! I went out to get him and help get the others to safety. All cars were destroyed so they were stranded. The devastation out hwy 78 was terrible. I haven't been able to sleep. I am so glad everyone was ok!

We were trying to get home last night, but seeing all the storms on the radar, we stayed in a hotel in Kansas, instead of going all the way. Plus, the road started to ice over also, so better safe than sorry. We are headed down now. It breaks my heart to see all the photos of the devastation. What a sad Christmas season for the folks who have lost homes and family members.

We live very close to the area impacted (if my neighbor's info is correct, the Rowlett tornado went about 2 miles east of our house), but we are out of town. As of last night, our neighbors couldn't see any major damage in our neighborhood. Lots of debris but they think it likely blew in from the storm, not from our houses. Lots of property damage in the area but thankfully it does sound like most people who were able to shelter in a bathroom or closet are safe.
I can't stop thinking about the people who were killed at 30 and Bush. That is again, not too far from where we live and a route we take regularly. If you aren't familiar with that interchange, it is a really high ramp from 30 to Bush. I imagine cars were blown off that ramp, and that is just a worst nightmare. I know if we had been out, we would have kept driving (and there aren't a lot of exits right in that stretch anyway), so a good reminder to get off the roads when the weather is bad.
Things change so fast with Dallas weather. Illinois weather was so much more predictable (went through a couple of tornadoes in IL). You tend to have a better idra it is coming in IL - the cells just pop up almost out of nowhere in N Tx.

I have driven that ramp so many times and you are correct...it is a high ramp! The thought of being tossed off that ramp while in your car is just terrifying. The weather last night just unfolded so quickly and it was dark so it was difficult to see the tornadoes. I am seeing all of the posts on FB about the missing pets and that breaks my heart too. This whole thing is just awful.

I've been in Texas for 18 years now, but before that I lived in Central Oklahoma. I went through many tornados in Oklahoma and hit the storm shelter several times each storm season. I've only taken shelter twice in the 18 years I've lived in Texas. Yesterday was scary. The cell went right over us but didn't drop the tornado until about 30 miles north of us. Prayers to everyone affected. When our small town was hit about 3 years ago with an F3 tornado, the entire community pulled together to take care of those that lost everything.

Thankfully, I've seen posts from vets who opened their practices to take in pets until their owners are found, storage facilities that are offering a month of free rent for anyone affected who has a need to store items, offers from health clubs offering free showers, etc. It's nice to see local businesses reaching out in real ways that are needed to help their local neighbors.

We are #161 of over 10,000 on the safe room rebate list for the state of Texas and this just reaffirms that we are going to go ahead with our plan to add one to our house. This Midwest girl does miss the safety of her basement.

My family and I drove home from NE Texas - from Blue Ridge back to Austin. We were on every highway and in everyplace that tornado touched. It's eerie.
My prayers to the families who lost loved ones. I am grateful to those who are safe.

This Midwest girl does miss the safety of her basement. My parents had a tornado room built into their TX house. It is really nice, and the neighbors come too when they have had tornado warnings. When we lived in TX for 14 years, I hated not having a safe place. We had a tornado hit a mile from us. Thankfully we just had roof damage but I will never forget the terror of being in the bathroom instead of a basement. I am thankful to be back East with my big, safe basement. And wagleg, I am SO sorry for your friend. I will be praying. So tragic!

All that devastation hurts my heart.
My state got pounded with rain and high winds, along with a few twisters. Flooding is still going on throughout Alabama.
Keeping all of those affected in my prayers.
