DH got me a new machine for Christmas and I am so excited! It sews like a dream, but I can't seem to get the hang of the embroidery feature. All of my test patterns have come out with the white bobbin thread on top. I have rethreaded the machine several times and keep adjusting the tension, but it still doesn't show the colored thread.
Does anyone have this machine and can give me any troubleshooting tips. I have watched several Youtube videos and can't find any that deal with my problem.
Thanks!

Time to call the store when your DH bought it and set up some lessons. There's a ton those machines do and it's built into the cost of the machine.

Congrats! Machine embroidery is addicting! LOL
Beginning question ... What type of material are you sewing on? Also, do you have some stabilizer under the fabric?

Also here's a website link with instructions for beginners ... Embroidery LibraryIf your machine is one that can use downloadable designs, this website has great designs at a good price. Everything you can think of!

If you are getting mostly bobbin thread on top, your bobbin may be in backwards. There should be a drawing on the bobbin case telling you which way to thread the bobbin thread.

This is what I was going to suggest. Usually it's because the bobbin is not correct. Also, there are several Brother embroidery machine groups on facebook and the knowledge in those groups is excellent. Just post the question and they can provide several answers and things to check.
I belong to: Brother PE Embroidery and PE 770 Machine Embroidery for Newbies- since that is the machine I own.
You may also want to double check that your item is properly stabilized and that you are using bobbin weight thread in the bobbin and not just regular embroidery thread.

Also, in most cases you should be using a different thread for the bobbin that is thinner than most threads. It is called "bobbin thread" LOL
When the bobbin thread is showing, usually it is a tension issue. Most embroidery machines automatically set the tension for you when the embroidery unit is functioning. But, if not, then your tension can be adjusted up or down. I would put the tension looser if the bobbin thread is being pulled to the top like you say. Go ahead and move the tension below a #1 and see what happens. If nothing changes then it is not the tension. Generally, the tension should be around 2 or 2.5.
(I used to teach machine embroidery classes so I know just a little bit about this.)

I do have stabilizer under the fabric. It's a lightweight stabilizer because I'm working with a lightweight cotton.
I thought I put the bobbin in correctly. I will double check that. Although I thought this machine tells you if it is not in correctly.
I am just not used to a machine that is smarter than I am, LOL.
Thanks for the help!

Cool! I'm gonna check facebook for my machine too. Wouldn't have thought to check there for a group! Thanks

As usual, the peas know everything! I removed my bobbin and put it in again and it worked! Spent much of the afternoon practicing on test fabric. Even DH called y'all the omniscient peas!
