Same old diet of TPN tonight for me . What 's on you you menu? rumor has it I'm getting out of her either Tuesday or Wednesday!! What fabulous New Year's news!!! I know you will be SO glad to be back in your own space. As for food around here today, I will make an early dinner/late lunch of black eyed peas, rice, fried chicken, salad...I don't care for greens, so I go with a salad instead. I will make extra rice and black eyed peas to mix into a cheater's version of hoppin' john for later. It will likely be just me for the day, the elder boy has gone back to his world and the younger has a social life, but I plan on watching Florida play in the Citrus Bowl, and pretty much doing not much at all other than eating, napping and football.

I hope that rumor is true and you're back home soon!
No cooking for me. My uncle decided to revive his annual New Year's Day family open house (hasn't had one in about 8yrs) so we're headed there this afternoon. I made a chocolate Cheescake to take. Looking forward to seeing family I've hadn't seen in awhile.

akathy, hope you make parole and get out Tuesday!!! I'm foregoing the traditional Friday night pizza in favor of baked egg rolls and sesame garlic noodles. If I get really ambitious, I might make egg drop soup, too.

Way to go, akathy. Hope your "home going" is sweet. We are having black bean soup and cole slaw. And.... Aunt Bill's Brown Candy which we made before Christmas. This candy is like crack to me. I am totally addicted to it. Carmel and creamy and loaded with pecans.

akathy would this be moving from hospital back to rehab, or from rehab to home? Somewhere I lost track of where you are! Anyway, normally today would be a big appetizer day, but we have a ton of leftovers. A little broasted chicken and potatoes, a little famous Dave's brisket, and a whole pizza left from Ds' NYE ping pong tournament. I will probably do the appetizer thing tomorrow. I was worried when you didn't post the dinner thread yesterday, since you've been back for several days now. Glad to know it wasn't due to your illness!

I hope you do get out akathy -- something nice to look forward to! We got together with a group of friends for NYE and started with Frogmore Stew -- a SC staple of shrimp, sausage, potatoes, and corn on the cob all boiled together. You dump it out on a big table and just dig in. We had so much and there were so many sides, we all agreed to forgo the oyster roast we were going to do later last night. So tonight, the same group is meeting back up and roasting oysters for dinner. Ha. I love our spontaneous group of friends.

I'm glad to hear you may be headed home soon.
We are having Pork and sauerkraut with mashed potatoes. That's the traditional New Years Day meal around here. Until I came to 2peas I thought that was what everyone had for New Years Day.

Fantastic news akathy! After almost 2 weeks of record high temps in the 70's, we are back to normal December weather and I can finally cook some winter comfort food. It's just been too balmy for soups and stews. Tonight is Chicken and Dumplings with brownies for later.

I hope you do get out soon!
We are going to our usual New Year's Day gathering at our friends' house. We pretty much eat all afternoon and evening, whatever they make and whatever everyone else brings. We often get a party cut pizza that we pick up on the way, which gets scarfed down pretty quickly.

Great news akathy! We're having our usual New Year's Day black eyed peas. This year I'm planning to make black eyed pea and sausage soup and I might make a batch of popovers to go with it.

Hooray Kathy! Here's hoping your rumors are true! We are having leftover appetizers all day (another day of grazing, munching and snacking!) For dinner I'll probably make some taco meat. I never made the layered Mexican dip I was going to, so I have all the fixings and ingredients leftover. We can make salads, tacos or whatever we feel like.

Hoping you get kicked loose very soon, akathy! I am planning to make pot roast, mashed potatoes, carrots, and something green ... assuming I can manage to get out of bed, into clothes, and to the supermarket within the next hour. Soooo warm and lazy in my nice bed right now.

Here's hoping next week happens for you!!
Today is traditional southern NYD fare for us. Greens for me, slaw for DH and YDS, black eye peas, sliced ham, candied yams(me), and cornbread. I may try to talk DH into Chinese tonight, if we decide we aren't full after all of that.

Same old diet of TPN tonight for me . What 's on you you menu? rumor has it I'm getting out of her either Tuesday or Wednesday!! What are you going to have for your first meal by mouth? Or does that change several times a day? We have pork and sauerkraut in the crockpot. Will make some mashed potatoes and serve with applesauce for dinner.
