Potatoes?? I made mashed cauliflower tonight. It looks just like mashed potatoes and I loved it! The true test....DH. He will eat soon. I have not told him it's not potatoes. He hates cauliflower. I'll let you know if I tell him the truth.

I love cauliflower mash. I'll tell you, though, the kids at school were NOT fooled. They are a mashed-potato-eating bunch, but that cauliflower want mostly untouched.

All the time. You can tell it's not potato but the whole family likes it especially with garlic. One of our favourites is mock mac & cheese made with cauliflower. Not the same thing as the original at all but I'll take it over all the carbs any day!

I can't really stomach a full cauliflower mash..:I do love it as a rice though.
I usually do a potato cauliflower mash mixture and that's so good.

Cauliflower is of the devil and I would divorce you for trying to fool me by substituting my beloved mashed potatoes. (just in case anyone doesn't get my humor, that was totally a joke. Not the hating cauliflower part, but the divorce part. )

I eat mashed cauli often BUT I am not fooled that it is potatoes. It doesn't look like potatoes and it tastes like cauliflower. Period.

Sounds like something that would go over well here IF it was a cauli/potato blend. I'm going to give it a try. Thanks!

We love cauliflower mash and it eat regularly, but I can't imagine how anyone mistakes in for potatoes. That said, DH and I both actually like it better than mashed potatoes now.

And I don't know how anyone could be fooled into thinking it was mashed potatoes, as it smells disgusting too. And surely if you're cooking it long enough to mash it, you're destroying most of the vitamin content too, thereby making it a completely pointless dish?!

I love cauliflower but not sure I would even want to try it instead of mashed potato because it would have to be cooked until quite soft to be able to mash it. I'm happy with my cauliflower steamed and slightly crunchy! It will be interesting to hear if it fooled your DH.

My family can't even tell it's not mashed potatoes if I do a half and half mix of potatoes and cauliflower. Those of you thinking it might work, give it a shot - my son, in particular, is a really picky eater, and he was fine with it.

DH liked it I didn't tell him till after he ate it. He asked what was different about the potatoes. I told him and he was ok about.
I found cauliflower crumbles in a bag made by Green Giant. You microwave the cauliflower in the bag for 4 mins. I then put it in a sauce pan with melted butter, a little milk and salt/pepper.

I love mashed cauliflower, I actually prefer it over mashed potatoes. I also use it in cauliflower salad, made like potato salad.

A colleague of mine was telling me she always does cauli rice so I gave it a try. My DH was keen as he likes cauliflower but OMG it stank the house out. It tasted and smelt disgusting. I understand people eating it if they like it but people, that say you can't taste the difference are dreaming LOL

I love cauliflower but it has gotten so expensive. Here in Atlanta it's selling for $5 a head and they're really small. I read online that the crop was bad this year because of weather in California. They predicted prices to rise to $8 a head soon. Yikes!

I haven't tried it in place of potatoes before.
Rice--yes, and didn't really like the texture.
As pizza crust--yes, and it wasn't too bad.

Yes and it was awful. I think it was something I did because it was more like cauliflower rice than potatoes.

Yes and it was awful. I think it was something I did because it was more like cauliflower rice than potatoes. The recipe said to purée it but I just beat the H out of it with the potato masher. It was smooth enough.

I love it! I steam the cauliflower, then puree it in my food processor and add olive oil, kosher salt and fresh cracked pepper. DH hates cauliflower and won't touch it but I love it.

I agree with many of the others, I like cauliflower, I like it mashed, but apart from it being a white mash, you can definitely tell the difference between that and mashed potato.
I also have raw, frozen cauliflower in my smoothie each morning, adds an extra vegetable but you can't taste it.

I've never had mashed cauliflower but I'm sure I would like it. I'm also sure I could tell the difference. I do love cauliflower but as a PP said, it is so expensive this year. I just want to EAT it when I buy it. Preferably with browned butter poured over it.
