Just read an article about 7 Charming Retreats With Absolutely No Internet. At first I thought no way, but then I think it might be a nice break for a couple of days. If the resort/hotel had a free wifi hotspot in the area, I could probably stay longer than a couple of days. I do love the idea of being totally unplugged from the internet though - just not sure I'm willing to implement it! What about you? Would you be willing to travel and stay where there is absolutely no internet? How long do you think you could last being totally unplugged? I could and I have. We went 3 weeks in Africa with only occasional Internet service (I think 2 of the safari camps had service in the main area).

Yes. I did in October in Vermont. It actually wasn't too bad, except when we needed navigation. We had to use actual MAPS!!!

I restrained from paying for Internet on my last cruise to take a break. Being without Internet was the only want to keep requests away.

We didn't have internet on the cruise we went on. (Didn't want to pay extra for it.) I didn't really miss it, surprisingly. That was for a week. I think longer than that and I'd want to at least be able to check in somewhere.

I've vacationed without internet tons of times. And not just before it was invented. We go to the beach or go camping, and we just don't need the internet there. We're there to enjoy time with one another or the area in which we are vacationing. Sure, it might be convenient to look up a menu or directions or hours or something, but we could easily make do without it.

Yes. I did in October in Vermont. It actually wasn't too bad, except when we needed navigation. We had to use actual MAPS!!! We went on a trip with my brother a few years ago, and it was a location we had visited regularly as children. We were both driving to a certain destination one day. He left ahead of us, drives faster than DH, and had GPS. I was co-piloting for DH using just a local map and road signs. We got there and my brother was no where to be found. We got the kids out of the car and started walking around with them, thinking he stopped someplace. Nope, it just took that long following the GPS. So once in awhile the maps work out better. We had fun teasing him all day.

What about you? Would you be willing to travel and stay where there is absolutely no internet? How long do you think you could last being totally unplugged? Yes, but we have an RV and enjoy getting unplugged If we are in a state park most/some of them don't have internet. If we are at one of our membership parks most of them do have internet but many of them are hit and miss.

We do, and hope for it on family vacations.

We generally don't access internet on vacation, so no problem. We had no internet, tv, or cell service on one vacation. I think DH missed ESPN, but he survived.

Yep, would and have! We went to a dude ranch for 2 years that didn't have internet (I think it does now though) and we rafted through the Grand Canyon - really no internet there at all! I love it; kids aren't glued to their phones, and since I've told work I'd be without access, there is no pressure at all to check email (which I will admit to doing on vacation when internet is available).
I think it is awesome.

I can (and have) vacationed without accessing the internet. But I wouldn't want to vacation in a place where I couldn't be reached in an emergency. When we cruise I always leave the ship information with my house sitter, coworker and family because I would not want to be completely unreachable. I worry about my cats and family members who are getting older. Plus, I am the tech lead at my company and if there is a true work emergency I would want to be reached.

That wouldn't interest me.
Even on our cruises, I buy the internet package and check email in the computer bar after dinner each evening.

Yep! Whenever we backpack we are without internet and do just fine. It's actually nice to be unplugged and completely present in what you are doing.

I could easily do it. I usually do it when we are on vacation. I also don't go online when I am at home and rarely check my email.

We do every time we go camping in NC, at least twice a year. We tent or hammock camp, backpack go on 10-20 mile hikes. We plan our itinerary and print all necessary maps before we leave civilization. We get up cook breakfast over the fire, hike all day, cook dinner over the fire, play games or read until bedtime at about 9. I love it.

It depends on the kind of vacation. In some locations, it's delightful. Sometimes, not so much.

If the kids are with us, yes. If they aren't, I would still want a way for them to get in touch with us. Not necessarily, Internet but at least the ability to receive a text or call. But, if we are together, then I don't really care about that.

No, and I'm fine with that.
Could I go on vacation and not access my email, FB, or message boards? Yes.
But I definitely want to be able to access Google so that I can look things up - things to do, places to eat, reviews, etc.

Yes, I absolutely would love a tropical vacation with DH away from email, texting, and Internet. As long as someone could call us at a hotel in case there was a problem with the kids, I'd be really looking forward to a vacation like that.

Yes. We have been on cruises where we did not use our phones, due to roaming charges.
It would be a little harder now, because we use the Internet a LOT, but, it would be good for both of us to be completely unplugged.

Sure, but I prefer not to, honestly. I like to browse or look at Pinterest or Instagram or whatever else in the evening as part of my wind down time. I don't think that's a bad thing. I could easily skip it if I was somewhere awesome with no internet.
