Noticed we have some Lego building peas, not just their children but peas themselves. Thought maybe we could occasionally communicate about the hobby like others do about sewing and all. To start, just a few questions;
1) How long have you been building?
2) What is your favorite theme (Modulars, Friends, Star Wars, your own creations - "MOC", etc.)?
3) Where do you build - a dedicated space/room or anywhere?
4) Do you display your models and if so where and how or do you build then disassemble?
5) What are you working on now?
Looking forward to hearing from fellow adult fans of LEGO (AFOL).

1) How long have you been building? About three years, it started with the minifigures and spiralled from there 2) What is your favorite theme (Modulars, Friends, Star Wars, your own creations - "MOC", etc.)? I don't really have a favourite theme, I like the Lego Movie sets and my husband likes the Avengers ones 3) Where do you build - a dedicated space/room or anywhere? Anywhere, I built the Doctor Who set sitting on my bed with the pieces in a baking dish! 4) Do you display your models and if so where and how or do you build then disassemble? All our models are dotted around everywhere (actually in two different countries!!) we're thinking about some shelving units to display them properly 5) What are you working on now? I haven't got anything on the go at the moment, my husband is over in a couple of weeks and his visits always entail a visit to the Lego store. I'll probably get some minifigure packs and I'm thinking of some of the Scooby Doo sets I love this thread

I'm so glad you started this thread! I just got into building Legos after getting my nephew some sets! I'm officially obsessed! I would love to see pictures of how people store their sets or just pictures of your builds!

My DS-22 is a lifelong Lego fan. He is very busy with school work and does not "play" much anymore but got the Big Bang Theory one for Christmas break. Check out this video....a DREAM Lego basement!!! www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bS2Uj9z2UI

I got my kids hooked about 2+ years ago and then as soon as I saw the Detective's Office last January I was hooked. I like the Creator series but I will put together anything. We joke that I put it together and my kids take it away to get played with otherwise I would be the dad from the Lego Movie, lol. My DD7 loves to put them together as well, she got the Friends Grand Hotel for Christmas and spent days putting it together. My DS5 is getting better at building but he would still rather take them apart and build his own creations. My normal building area is the dining room table and the kids got so many sets for Christmas they took over my building spot. They need to now move to the playroom though so I can build mine The playroom is now pretty much a LEGO room instead of a variety of toys. I finished the Doctor Who set(like the set was not fond of the directions and the bags didn't come numbered). I have the Creator Theater waiting until the table is cleaned. We started a new tradition for Christmas last year, we get the new Christmas themed set every year and display them for Christmas. I enjoy those more than the fragile houses and the kids get to play with them and make up all sorts of stories.

Hmmm...
1) I started building seriously about 2 years ago, when my DH and I moved in together. We have LEGO date nights during the winter, when we do most of our building.
2) I don't really have a favourite, but I do a lot of Creator sets but I'll build any set that interests me.
3) We clear off the coffee table in the living room to build, it's a part of our date night, so there's also usually a pizza, beverages and treats on the table. We have to work hard to keep Godzilla (the kitten) and Mothra (the older cat) off the table when we're building, since they like to trample and destroy under the guise of exploring and playing.
4) We display our kit builds but we also have a bucket of random pieces that we build and destroy.
5) I just finished the VW bus and have the Big Bang Theory set waiting for our next date night.

First let me say that I'm not a Lego purist, meaning I buy Mega Bloks sets too because we like Hello Kitty and Minions and that's who has the license for those. We have a bunch of those. I mostly buy sets to build with my DD (5) although she has received a few sets from others as gifts. So with that in mind, we have several Disney Princess sets, one or two generic Lego princess sets, and a bunch of plain bricks that we bought at the MOA Lego Store from their brick wall. I LOVE the brick wall! So many possibilities! As much as I would like the things from the sets to stay built, sadly they rarely do. They reside in a big Rubbermaid tub half assembled. We usually build at the kitchen table, which explains why they end up in a Rubbermaid tub.
Personally, I would secretly love to get the Simpson's house with all the Simpson's mini fig characters and the Quickie Mart, but at $200 each it's probably not gonna happen. I'm tempted, VERY tempted, to buy just the Krusty the Clown mini fig from someone on eBay even though the prices on the individual ones are about double the blind bag price. I've got a Rapunzel's Creative Tower set still in the box that I snagged on clearance at Target for half off. I'm waiting for DD to forget about it so that I can pull it out some day when we have nothing to do and surprise her with it.

1) How long have you been building?
Its been 4 years or so. My DS and I were ill on Easter Break. There was a Lego Ninjago marathon on TV so we just watched that for hours! A day or 2 later I was still feeling ill and he was ready to run but with no one to watch him I purchased some Lego Ninjago sets for him to build. Then came LOTR and now Star Wars! yea!
2) What is your favorite theme (Modulars, Friends, Star Wars, your own creations - "MOC", etc.)?
I love Ninjago, LOTR, Avengers, Star Wars
3) Where do you build - a dedicated space/room or anywhere? Kitchen or Dining Room Table
4) Do you display your models and if so where and how or do you build then disassemble?
Well, lets see, my DS has them displayed in his room. I got the AT AT for my Birthday but he has it.
5) What are you working on now?
I got Poe's X wing fighter just waiting for me! Although my son wants to build it I want to do it this time! ha
On a side note I have to say I have Lego Envy. I still wish I would have been as fortunate as the former Pea who found an estate sale and got the Harry Potter Castle for really cheap. I still cry over that one. hahah I did get Harry with his suit cases and his owl and am happy with that little set. Love LEGO! Their customer service is amazing too!

They're actually not bad, I expected them to be quite clumsy.

We bought Lego for the boys from the time older DS#1 turned 2. He's going to be 30. We would sometimes help them when they were younger but they soon stopped us from doing that.
Last year, we dug out all of their Lego, as we still have it all, but decided we wanted our own. We mostly build Creator, we've done the theatre, the Parisien restaurant, and are now working on the Detective Agency/Pool Hall/Barber Shop. It's something DH and I love to do together.
We have a foldable plastic table that we use to build on. We sit on the couch in the lliving room while we build and the table is easy to move in and out of there.
Right now, the sets are just set out in our dining room. We have an open plan house, so the front door and front closet open up to the next level and the space over the closet is where the Lego is sitting right now.
We have to restrain ouselves as we get building and could easily build a whole set all at once. But the cost of those sets makes us slow down a bit, to enjoy it over more than one day. Although the plan is to take apart the first one in the future and rebild it.

When DD started to get old enough for real Legos (as opposed to Duplos), my younger brother was just sick that instead of hanging onto his literally tens of THOUSANDS of bricks that his son didn't want anymore to give to my DD, he gave them to our other brother's GF's kid. The bricks filled a Rubbermaid tote that was about 2' x 3' x 1.5' in size, and the girl left them out on their deck in the rain where the bin got full of dirt and leaves. Seriously, who lets their kid DO that? I don't even know if they saved them or threw them away after that. Just stupid.

Legos can be cleaned by putting them in the lingerie bags and putting them on the top rack of the dishwasher and washing/drying them.
When the dishwasher is cool, have a large beach towel and dup the legos and shake a bit so that they all will dry out. I have been doing this with all plastic toys that are non battery since 1979.

1) I have been building since I was little. Then it was primarily with boxes of Legos and I still have a few things I built at my dad's house. I did have a long break between probably high school and when my daughter started getting into LEGO.
2) I buy what interests me. Last few years it's been the larger sets like the Grand Emporium and the theatre (which I am working on now). Saw an awesome deal on the wind turbine so I bought that. I really want to build the fire engine house (forgot what it was called) but it was retired.
3) I build where ever I feel like it. For the larger sets I reuse those plastic containers that were on a wood rack that held my daughter's toys when she was a toddler. Between those and ziplock bags, I don't lose pieces as easy. Usually I am on the floor but occasionally on my bed too.
4) My models end up in my daughter's room along with hers.
5) Working on the movie theatre now (forgot what it is called)
Funny/unbelievable story... When I was working on the Grand Emporium, I started realizing I was missing a lot of pieces and had a lot of extras. Long story short, ended up calling LEGO and they had to send me a parts list and it was a pain to figure out what was missing. Thought I figured it out and they sent the pieces but when I got to the third floor, I had the same issue. Thankfully they stood behind their product (why they believe me, I don't know) and in the end I was only still missing one piece (which I sucked up grabbed from our stash) but I have a gallon size full of extra pieces. Mostly extra small pieces like floor tiles and accent pieces.

I love building with Legos with my dgc. I have different sets at my place than dgc has at home. There is a lot of enjoyment to build & play with the different things. Dgc loves to come to my place because of the different stuff that I have here.
I have so much lego, some of it is mine from my childhood and also from my ds's childhood. We watch YouTube and go to the local library where their is a weekly Lego club. All kinds of imaginable stuff to make.
I even have a special set of legos that my dgc takes along to a family vacation. A smaller set and I then add some of the pieces that were built at my place. Great for rainy days at the cottage or at night-time in a hotel room.

I'm betting they didn't save them. The girl must be about 14-15 by now so I'm sure they're long gone.

Just stupid. Someone with no clue of the resale value of Lego bricks! I hear ya. That brother isn't the sharpest tool in the shed though. His garage is packed full of bicycles that he picked up off the side of the road while his relatively new car sits outside in the snow in the driveway, so there's that.

Legos were one of my favorite toys as a kid. DH loved his erector set & in fact still has it - all rusty . Did some building with our DS , but he was more of a "ball" kid. We went to Legoland a few years ago & Fell back in love & fascination with Legos. So many cool new pieces & projects.
DH & I have been doing the Lego Christmas village for about 4 years now. We also do the advent calendars. We are missing the set with the sleigh. ( I think it was the 1st of the series) & now it's crazy expensive.... I might break down & buy it though. He also did 2 of the trains. We carefully pack away the village every year but keep the trains out all year in his reloading room. Our 11 yr old DGS likes to help too. Such fun.
We also use the dining room Table to assemble. My job is sorting & handing him pieces. We have a our own code names for the pieces. I sort on a white serving tray I got at IKEA.

My kids are totally into Lego, but aren't old enough yet for the Architecture sets, which is what I'd love to do someday! They have lots of Disney Princess stuff and Ninjago sets and some Minecraft ones, but we mostly just have a huge tub with thousands of pieces in them and they love to use those Build It books to build their own creations. Our main building space is a game table we have down in the basement, although the kids each have their own sets they build on the floor in their rooms (we have hardwood floors).

1) how long? I just started getting into them this year but I'm afraid this is like scrapbooking for me, so far I've bought a ton but not built much. 2) What is your favorite theme (Modulars, Friends, Star Wars, your own creations - "MOC", etc.)? I like the lego movie sets and scooby doo
3) Where do you build - a dedicated space/room or anywhere? On my bed, we have a baby who is crawling so ds who is 3 gets to build worn me on my bed while ds 2 naps or has gone to bed. I Co sleep in the nursery right now so my bed is unused right now for sleeping.
4) Do you display your models and if so where and how or do you build then disassemble? I haven't built anything completely, I only had one tiny set as a child so I kind of suck at building anything without instructions, since we have a bin of random bricks i bought and cleaned, stuff we make is pretty random, although I'm trying to do a scooby doo mansion mini build from a photo and other than it being a bunch of random colors, it's coming along a tiny bit at a time.
5) What are you working on now? That scooby doo mini build and trying to reassemble minifigures, apparently all of the used minifigures I've bought are all Frankensteins as in mixed up, and my son loves to take minifigures apart so I'm always trying to figure out who goes with which head. To be honest my favorite part is sorting through the minifigures. I also love minifigure trading at legoland, although what sucks is people trade fakes and my son always seems to go for those. ..hint if there's what appears to be an awesome figure look closely, it's probably fake, eg the pirate has regular legs and arms instead of peg leg and hook for a hand, and the printing is terrible, but ds likes pirates so he wants that one.
So i think I'd be an afol if i had the time to build things like the gingerbread house i had to have so bought $100 of lego on black Friday so i could get it. Right now I'm just in the collecting phase.

I can't even begin to understand my addiction to Lego and do not know why I started. I do not have children or are around them so I have no idea where this came from. It has turned out to be a relaxing and interesting (and expesive) hobby. Sometime I feel weird hovering around the Lego aisle in target or Toys R Us without a child in tow, but my compulsion overrides the weird feeling.
1) How long have you been building? About 2 years - first set was from the architecture series, Big Ben and I was hooked.
2) What is your favorite theme (Modulars, Friends, Star Wars, your own creations - "MOC", etc.)? I do some of my own made up models but mostly Technics, Modulars, Cuusoo such as Birds and Big Bang, the bigger Ninjago sets and recently getting into Mindstorms.
3) Where do you build - a dedicated space/room or anywhere? The scrapbook room is now a Lego room. Purged three-quarters of the paper craft materials and set them up in the closet, painted and built work tables And it is my space for Lego building and display. There Is shelving for brick organizers and model display.
4) Do you display your models and if so where and how or do you build then disassemble? I display on shelves in my Lego room, but mostly the bigger models, the smaller ones I just build and display for a bit before disassembling.
5) What are you working on now? I tend to work on a few things at a time. Currently the Detectives Office and learning to program a remote dog treat dispensing robot.
