When was the last time you had an actual, professional, or just portrait style photo taken?
My youngest will be 11 in March. The last time he was under two.
This is is a disgrace. It is one of my goals for the year. Get a wall worthy family photo taken.
I just oust keep thinking about the losses we have had on the board in last 6 months or so. I don't want to have regrets, just in case. Life is so unpredictable.

28 yrs of marriage, oldest child is almost 22. We've never had a complete family photo done to hang on the wall in our home. (although for the record, we'll not see our 29th anniversary LOL)
The last time I've had a "professional" portrait done of the kids...Spring, 1999. DS was about 3 months old. (he's 17 now)

I have never had what I would call a nice well done family portrait. The last one we had done was for the church directory and I think youngest son now 22 was about 9 or so. It was poorly composed and I never liked it at all.
I do try to get a snapshot on occasions when all 4 of us are together and there is someone else to take the photo, but it has also been years since I had a decent one of those either. Mostly they are crap but at least I have the photo.

I don't have any.
But I have a bunch of really talented photographers in the family so I do have tons of decent photos of me and the boys taken by them. What I like about that is that the photos are just this side of professional (and often more candid,) but the settings are are part of what we doing at the time so it also a recording our activities/vacations/holidays/etc. That is nice.
Then again, I am not one who typically hangs a lot of photos on the walls, so that probably has something to do with why I am not worried about not having professional photos taken.

About 16+ years ago. It's not something that I, or anyone I know of, has done particularly regularly except for things like graduation. I am not a huge fan of them to be honest - I prefer candid, casual shots taken at family gatherings etc rather than staged, posed events.

We have never had a full family portrait done that included me, my husband and the kids. When the kids were young I was disciplined about getting their pictures done but the last tie I had a group photo done of all 4 kids was 13 years ago when they ranged in age from 7 to 14. I always said we would again but it just never happened. I have tons of photos, just not from a studio and I hate to say it but I can't see getting them together any time soon to change this.

Technically, almost annually as my mother requires a big family pic every Christmas (don't get me started on the ridiculousness of this requirement). But for the last 3 years we've had our own photographer do pics of the boys each fall (she does mini sessions where we can get about 4-6 poses for far cheaper than a full session would cost), this year dh & I got in a couple as well. Prior to that we had family pics done at JCPenney when yds was 1 (he's 5 now).

Professionally? Not since the girls were 2 and 4, and we had those only because they were a gift. I've done family shots with my own camera on a tripod since then, and they've turned out well, but honestly, I really prefer informal photos and candids, and we're not the type to hang them on the wall anyway. My favorite recent picture of the four of us is a group selfie. We look happy, relaxed and like ourselves. If the worst happened, that's how I'd want to remember our family - not dressed up and posed.

I love professional family portraits, though, we've only done it two times. First when our oldest was in Kindergarten, just the four of us. Second was in 2006, my husband fully recovered from leukemia, and the picture included us, our two children, one son-in-law and 5 grandkids. I would love to have another family portrait taken this year to include my mom and dad, new daughter-in-law and 4 new grandkids.
If one doesn't like the studio style, why not have it outside, on a beach, in the woods, etc?

I take ours every year. This past years photo is my absolute favorite that I have ever taken of all of us. I blew it up on canvas and put it on our living room.

May 2014 - we went to Disney for our 20th anniversary, and booked a family photo shoot with Disney Event Photographers.
Before that it was the fall of 2005 or 2006!

Every year. Maybe it is a candid I take with the tripod, sometimes it is just a cheap JCPenny version, sometimes I hire a mom with a camera off of craigslist. But they all count. It is very important to me. One of my friends lost her 2 year old to RSV and we watched her agonize over the fact she had no pictures with her kid. That on top of the only family picture I have of my own family was when I was a baby and now my dad is dead. I want those memories documented. I don't care if they are formal. I care that they are preserved. I'm the annoying sister who demands that my brother's family and my mother get in front of a camera every damn time we are together. Suck it up. It's 1 hour of your time. We do not live close so that is an every 2 year requirement. With my in-laws... I let it slide but I try. FIL could care less as long as he has pictures of DDs. I try to do something for MIL every time we see her too (obviously, not a daily thing). Considering a lot of time goes between the time we see our family, these are the memories my children create of their family. We have a family tree wall that has all the faces. It helps them not to have as much stranger danger when we connect.

We haven't had a professional one since my oldest was 6 months old). I usually take the kids pics a few times every year. About 5 years ago we got some good pics of DH with the kids and me with the kids. I have gained weight and don't want to pay for pics if I will hate them. My goals is to have new ones taken this year.

Never had one I really no desire to do so in the future. I never like posed family shots, I much more a candid photo type of person. Plus, I don't display photos in the house, which I know I'm in a minority for, but it's not my thing.

Since 2012, every single year. At least once, if not twice.
My friend's 9-year-old son was killed in an accident in 2012 and one of her biggest regrets was not having family photos done. Ever since she said that, I've made it a point to take our family photos.
We have a local photographer that will meet us in the location of our choice. She shoots for an hour, edits the photos, and gives you all rights to the images. It's only $75. Worth every penny to always have those memories.

We thought we would do a family portrait ourselves every New Year's Day, after our oldest (now 28 yrs old) was born. But that only lasted a few years. We had a family portrait done once when my SIL booked a photographer to come to their house (my kids were 10 and 5), and then a 5 years later when my sister did the same thing.(so once with each side of the family). Those are the only times we have paid for a professional photographer.
Then I started to work for a photography company and now I can borrow any equipment I want. The most important time was Christmas 2009. I decided to bring home some equipment and take photos on both sides of the family. I took the big extended family photo first and then all the individual families and then grandparents with grandkids and then cousins. I did it because my dad was about to enter a nursing home for Alzheimer's and I wanted to do this before he didn't remember anything any more. I am so glad I made the effort because 3 months later my mom (who was always so healthy) was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour and never left the hospital. We used the photo I took that Christmas for her obituary and memory cards.
I also took a family portrait 2 months before my FIL ended up in hospital. We didn't think he would make it but he did. I brought the photo equipment to take another photo this year but he was poorly this Christmas and no one wanted to take the photo without him. So the latest photos I have my extended family is Christmas 2013.

Twice a year for us. My husband does photography so we don't have to pay anyone to do it. But I grew up in a house where we have exactly 1 family photo and I was about 4th grade. My father died when I was in my early 20s and that's the only family photo we have without him being sick. When we had kids, I told dh that I wanted family photos at least once a week and we've settled into a couple of times a year now. We do a spring/summer one and a fall/winter one. I hope one day, my kids will appreciate all the family photos we have. I know I do.

A year and a half ago, for our 25th. Before that, when DD was 3 months old. No, I take that back, we had family pics taken on dress up night when we were on our Disney Cruise in 2013. Those pics didn't turn out great (we all look pretty stiff), but we do have them. The portraits we had done by our photographer the other two times are super nice though.

We've never had any professional pictures taken of any of us, either as a family or as a couple, or of just the kids.
I'd like to someday find a photographer who could come and take photo journalist type pictures of our regular daily life. I'd enjoy having pictures like that much more than formal posed portraits.

We did professional family pictures in November. The last time we did them was at our wedding 7 1/2 years ago.
I absolutely hated the way I looked! My hair was fat, my clothes were flattering at all. But I really don't care because when I see them I see us...a not so perfect family. Last year with everything that went on with my son I made a goal to have more pictures of us as a family. It is something I plan on doing more than once ever 7 years that's for sure.

This Christmas, I was adamant that all I wanted was a great family picture. It had been about ten years and, with the oldest three living in other states now, it seemed impossible. I was lucky enough to find a photographer willing to spend an hour with us during the limited amount of time everyone was home for the holidays. I'm so in love with our pictures. This is my favorite one:

We never had professional photos taken of the family.
As the kids grew up I would take them and get there pictures taken. They always had school pictures or other professional pictures taken. But as a family nope.

When DS was a toddler so about 27 or so years ago. However, we have many family photos in front of the Christmas tree or on vacation and I prefer those to a *portrait* type. JMHO of course.

Our last professional photos were a year ago, Christmas. We usually do them every Christmas but this past year we didnt. I am thinking probably in the spring, maybe.

Last June on our cruise. We purchased a few of the portraits. Before that it was fall, just over a year ago, so we have pretty recent family portraits. My kids are 18 and 20, so who knows how much longer we will all be able to do this together whenever we wish.
