I don't quite understand the lot compositions. 3 sets of chalks in the same on? Odd for sure.
$900 worth of stuff (I don't disbelieve it) it's just so much stuff. $900 buys a lot of stuff unless it was Quickutz back in the day. $900 worth of stamps? I can't comprehend.
I did think an organization with a budget could get some of the supplies for art camp. I think that could be a potential buyer for some of it.
I, too, got twitchy looking at it all. It was just photo after photo of "stuff".

I wonder if she was also selling on eBay? It's sad.......I can't look through all of the photos.

I think she had to be selling or planning to sell them, that's the only reason having so many duplicates and store-like shelving makes sense to me. and even then.. wow.

I don't think that woman (and it surely must have been a woman) ever met a stamp or a punch she didn't like.

I am just flabbergasted by the amount of stuff there! Surely this must have been something to do with a business......if not, I cannot imagine buying so much stuff.

I looked at that the other day. It was one woman who had a shopping/hoarding obsession. She collected all that in just a couple (2?) years. Someone intervened, she's getting help, and the whole lot is being sold off.
I was poking around in google after I saw the thread on the GS board, but I don't remember exactly where I read that.

Without speculating on why there are so many stamps..... I have to confess that having the duplicates together seems pretty dumb to me. People would pay more to have one set than get multiples they would then have to get rid of. I don't quite understand the lot compositions. 3 sets of chalks in the same on? Odd for sure. I've mentioned on here before that I frequently cashier for friends who own an auction company. They occasionally get hoarder-type estates to handle. In those situations, the sheer volume of stuff often prevents making picky, individual decisions about each item. At some point, you just start making lots to be done. Also, chances are the auctioneer is not a scrapbooker. Lol. Those employees would look at products that are exactly alike and say, "Oh, this goes together." Most estate sales are hard on families. Hoarder sales add a whole other complication because of the guilt and frustration over the sheer waste of money.

This is unbelievable. Don't you wonder how much money she spent on this stuff? Even at cheaper ebay prices, we're talking a ton of money. So sad to be in the grip of that kind of addiction.
But wouldn't you love to get a box of unopened ebay purchases just to see what you'd get! Bet the shipping is high, and it looked like there is a 15% premium. Still a huge bargain. All those big boxes of stamps.....

That's just really sad. You have to wonder what kind of hole someone was trying to fill. This. Most of the items are still in original packaging, and were obviously never used. Really, really sad.

I'm not really a big stamper, but I do like some of the Lawn Fawn sets for cards. I saw a lot of Lawn Fawn sets and was about to bid to "help this lady out" But it's already at $50 plus shipping, plus the $5 shipping convenience fee, plus 15% for online bidding fee... My brother lives in San Diego. Should I send him to the auction?!? one thing I don't like is her name and address are clearly visible on a lot of the boxes. And her eBay name is on some of the receipts. But yeah, it's sad. Poor lady. I'm glad she's getting help.

I read all the posts before I looked at the link, and even with all the Oh my God! comments, I was still not prepared for the sheer volume!! I have a lot of stamps, but my collection looks like a pittance now.
I purchased what was listed as "a box" of stamps through Craigslist last year. I think it was listed at $25, and the stamps I could see were well worth that price. When I drove out to have a look, I was shocked by the size of the box. Plus, she had a second box not mentioned. She had been a Stampin' Up distributor for a few years and just wanted everything out of her garage. There were over 100 sets, plus lots of single stamps. My stamp collection just about doubled with that one $25 purchase. I still haven't used all of them, and I have been embarrassed by my "hoard" until seeing this. I am just shaking my head as I click through some of the pictures.
I have to say, I'm not really one to bid on net auctions like this. Thankfully. If this was being done in a big warehouse or gymnasium, I would have a hard time not driving to San Diego to "check things out" which translates to, " well, I need to buy something to justify driving all this way and burning up a tank of gas" so a few of those boxes would end up with me. Especially the unopened packages. I love grab bag surprises.

It was just photo after photo of "stuff". It is and at the same time it isn't. I owned a small retail stamp/scrap store way back in the day and it was pathetic what $900 would buy especially if the stamps were the big card front sized ones like those House Mouse stamps. It wouldn't even fill one small shelf. So to see semi trailer truck loads of stuff like that is mind blowing especially considering she didn't have a store. That lady had to have spent a literal fortune on all that. Even at wholesale prices or eBay it had to have run up to several millions.

I bet there are some tear bears in there somewhere. I don't doubt it. It looks like she had a huge collection of punches, too. I wonder if she had a home-based scrapbooking business where she created items to sell and also sold the stamps... Maybe that's why she had so many duplicates... VERY unusual... and my DH thinks I'm bad...

It really bugged me that her name & address are clearly visible on many of the lots, but it is good to hear she is getting help. Sadly, I can see how online shopping could escalate to this point.

Looks to me like she never actually used any of these items. I suspect she was too busy buying to craft.
Even with the obscene number of unopened packages, I call BS on a million, simply because it is virtually impossible to see/have a million of anything. I presume they came up with that number through extrapolation, but there's no way that's right IMO.
I wonder if she was spending her own money, or if there is a spouse. What an unbelievable waste of time and money.
Wooden stamps aren't that popular anymore so I imagine there would be a very small return on investment for those.

I would love to know the back story. Is anyone in the area able to go and find out more? I see she was a recent hoarder but was she ever a scrapbooker? What caused this obsession? (Trying to convince myself it could never happen to me....)

I have re-doubled my commitment to purge 2016 items in 2016!!!
ETA: I went through a few pages and in many cases, she was paying nearly at retail, especially those mouse sets. About 3 years. I sold some stamp sets on ebay, and the same person bought all of them (10 stamp sets). Now I am wondering if she bought them!! I need to go back in my old emails and see if her ebay name is the same one. I haven't even logged into my ebay account in nearly 3 years.
In addition, in many pictures, the seller's address is displayed as well in the packing slip.

Stampin Up sets, acrylic...and they were priced low. I see them all the time at yard sales. I'd love a few of those punches though!

I thought I had a lot of stamps when I put them all in a drawer. I don't stamp that much but it is nice to have them when you need them but this woman was crazy about stamps. Too bad she didn't use them. I would have fun in all that mess.

I would have swore that HAD to be a business, till I saw more of the pictures and read that so many of the boxes were unopened! Major shopping addiction, for sure... (I need to show these pics to my BF, to show him that MY stash is nothing compared to some...) eta: just looked at a few of the auction lots-- $700+ for just ONE box of stamps?!? and there are hundreds of different auction lots?!? crazy!! eta2: can you IMAGINE how much work it was for the auction company to sort through it all???

I wonder if she thought they would be worth more some day. Some discontinued items do go for more years later, but so much does not. I can't decide if she shopped for emotional reasons and/or if she had the idea that she was building a future fortune. Kind of like people who are now selling hundreds of Beanie babies in garage sales for a buck each, because back in the day they thought they would just keep increasing in value. And while some did, most did not.
