Products from one Dole plant are being recalled due to Listeria. The salads are being sold under various brand names, listed in the article I've linked. It seems the outbreak was in September but the source was just now confirmed. The CDC is saying not to consume products from this particular facility in Ohio. This article tells how to identify if any bags you have on hand have originated from that facility. There are several different products involved. www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/dole-salad-recalled-after-listeria-kills-1-sickens-12-n502311?cid=sm_fb

If I had lettuce sitting in my fridge since September that was still edible there is definetely something wrong with it.

There's another brand of salad that recalled bagged spinach due to undisclosed almonds. who would ever suspect salad can be unsafe for nut allergies.

Yeah, I just trashed one full bag and one almost gone bag. To the PP who said the lettuce was from September, that is not true. They just stopped production on January 21, and advised that no one consume lettuce from that facility. The issues began in September.

Yeah, any uneaten lettuce from September was tossed a loooong time ago! The facility did not stop producing bagged lettuce until January 21. I just tossed two bags with expiration dates of January 25.

Yeah, any uneaten lettuce from September was tossed a loooong time ago! Well...that's pretty obvious. They're not recalling lettuce from September. The article, which I linked to above, states: "On January 21, 2016, Dole reported to CDC that it had stopped all production at the processing facility in Springfield, Ohio and is withdrawing all packaged salads currently on the market that were produced at this facility," CDC said. Meaning the the risk is still present in the factory. I'm sorry, I should have been more clear in my OP.

No, your statement was valid, you might have thought I posted an old link. As I said, I should have been more clear in the OP. I took the easy way out and just posted the link, pretty much. I just didn't want any of the Peas to get sick.

I was just at Meijer and there was not one bag of lettuce on their shelves. 15 feet of bare shelves.

Side note: we just got a Meijer this year and I LOVE their produce department. Our little town was sorely lacking in good produce. I feel like a kid in a candy shop going into Meijer to shop for produce! Lots of things I had never even seen or heard of in my sheltered little Michigan life.

Am I the only pea who giggled when they read bagged salad? I'm surprised so many are admitting to buy that abomination! Stepping away from the computer to clean my fridge. Yeah, that's all I'm doing.

I had a message on my answering machine from Stop and Shop about Dole with the code beginning with an A. My unopened bag expires today- good thing this week was my birthday! I have not done any food prep all week (eating out a lot)- so I never had a chance to eat it!

Hmm..judgme..never mind I tried using regular greens once. Even buying one of each type I had enough to make salad for a month. We don't go through enough to justify that here and a salad with only one or two greens is too boring. I buy organic girl and so far, no recalls. **crossing fingers**

I checked my bagged salad and we are fine. I bought one of the Dole brands, but it wasn't from the Dole plant in Ohio. No A before the manufacturing code.

Nope, I giggled as I posted it! I figured that would get mentioned, and sooner than it did, but took my chances, haha. I've got no shame. I use it because I like a mixture of greens but would never be able to eat up several whole heads before they went bad as I'm the only one here that eats salads.

I thought they said the production number began with an A Yep. It does. Today, I was at the store where I bought mine last week, and they still had lots of dole bagged salads on the shelves. I didn't look to see if they had gotten them from a different facility. I probably won't be buying bagged lettuce for a long time to come. My state has the highest number of illnesses related to this.

When I was a little girl we lived in Lansing and we loved Meijer. That was back in the early 70's. When we moved back up north, I always missed it and would always try to hit a Meijer when I traveled. I was super happy when our town got one this year, although it doesn't have some of the features I've seen in other ones like a salon, a coffee place, etc. Maybe they'll add those eventually?

I imagine if you have a bag that matches the plant code, the store would give a refund. I'd certainly hope so anyway. If not I'd surely be contacting Dole and addressing that.

I don't want any of that. The one thing I want from my meijer.........online shopping w/ curbside pick up! I'm sure it won't happen as I don't live in a large city (heck I have to drive 20 min to the nearest Meijer and even that one is in a smaller town) I'd be willing to drive the 40min to Toledo if they got it.

I have a "clam shell" box of Kroger Fresh Selections Mixed greens in my refrigerator.
My DH called Kroger and they told us to return the item to Krogers for a full refund. They currently have nothing on the shelves to replace that product.
