I currently have ATT. With 2 smartphones on it, plus 1basic phone. Not smart. I want to upgrade to a smart phone, but it will increase my bill like 40$ more. I already think paying over 100$ for freaking phones is crazy!! ha. Now ATT has gone to their new plan, which isn't really an upgrade, as you have to buy basically a new phone. You can't upgrade, so it adds an addition "installment" fee they call it for you to buy your phone, vs outright buy it for like 500$ of course. So what has everyone been doing? have you seen cheaper plans? We live in the boondocks too, so not a lot of options.

We use tmobile. I have an iPhone 6s Plus. We each have separate prepaid plans that are 30/month. Unlimited text and data (high speed is capped at 5gig but we rarely reach that). Only 100 minutes of talk is included. Tmobile includes free hotspot and music and video streaming don't count toward data.

I'm not sure we have tmobile up here? I'm leary of prepaid. My dd had one of those, and it just didn't have good service like what we had with a reg plan. I know it shouldn't make a difference, but it definitely did!

Hate to tell what we pay for 4 phones!!!
My mom has a flip phone, my son and I have galaxy smart phones, and my dd has an iPhone. Unlimited data, messaging, 1500 talk minutes a month which we never come close to using, and we pay about $245 a month. It's with Sprint. Oh, and we lease the three smart phones, and two of the them have insurance at $22 a month bc kids break them all the time. DH has a iPhone from work which is paid for by his job.

We have MetroPCS, but that is a prepaid. I have absolutely no service issues at all, though it does run off of T-Mobile towers, so if you don't get t-mobile in your area that would be a problem. Our plan includes, unlimited, text, talk and data. It also has a free hot spot which we use quite a bit to run the kids tablets during long car rides. And as stated above about t-mobile (MetroPCS is owned by TMobile) musice and video streaming don't count toward data use. We pay $35 per phone.

If you have ATT, look into Cricket. At least in our area, they use ATT towers. A friend of ours was just telling us tonight, he pays $100 month for him and his 2 daughters. He got an android phone that he paid about $200 for but I don't know what phone it is.

sincity, my dd's prepaid phone she had before came off the ATT towers also, but someone explained to us, that even though it does come off the towers, for some reason it does NOT has as much pull, or doesn't pull from all the towers or something like that. Anway, there was definitely a difference after we put her on a reg ATT plan and phone vs the prepaid one.

Go into a VErizon store and see what they can do- they recently had a great special for lower rates, but I don't know how long the special was for. I think it started late December or early January.

We have Verizon. We pay $150 a month for three iPhones + a flip phone for dh's mom. Then another $80 on top of that for 15mg of data (we have unlimited talk and text, but that seems pretty standard). I get an additional 20% off because of who I work for.
I can't imagine switching to AT&T or Sprint...the coverage just isn't there at least in our area. I had a horrible customer service experience with T-Mobile and wouldn't go back to them if they paid me.

Your plan sounds like a bargain to me. We pay just over $200/mo for 3 iPhones with unlimited talk/text and 10gb of data. That's with Verizon which is basically the only reliable option around here.

I have a Tracfone (LG Sunset). It's an android smartphone and I'm just learning all it can do. I had a dumb phone for the longest time. It costs me $130 for the phone, a year of service, 1200 minutes of talk, 1200 minutes of text and 1200 minutes of data. I'm sure I won't use it anywhere near the limits, so I plan to rollover the minutes next year. I got mine from HSN.

We switched to AT&T from Sprint. We had horrible coverage with Sprint. There were dead zones right in the middle of the Twin Cities and we'd have dropped calls.
We pay about $200 for 3 Galaxy smart phones.

We are looking into changing our plan. The obscurity of the bills makes me CRAZY. I can't stand it. We are in the ballpark of scrapmomof2 and mom - it's not sustainable. Thanks, Sprint.

The only reason you may have noticed a difference with prepaid vs a contract phone is the either network they used or the phone itself. Otherwise, there is no difference.
We've had prepaid phones here for probably 10 years. It is significantly less expensive. It's sort of the difference between leasing a car and owning it. Except in certain situations, any financial advisor will tell you that owning is cheaper in the long run. It is the same for prepaid.
We have Virgin Mobile. I pay $25 a month for my service which includes unlimited texting, unlimited data (quasi.. it slows down after a certain amount) and 300 minutes a month of voice. They no longer have this plan. When I buy a new phone, I will have to upgrade my phone. We bought dd a newer phone and I think we are now paying $45 a month for her. She has unlimited voice, text and 3G of high speed data. 1G, the $35 month plan, was not enough for her because she uses a ton of data. Dh never hits his 1G and I rarely do. When we do, our data speed drops.
That said, if you do not have good Sprint coverage, forget about this option. Virgin Mobile uses the Sprint network.
I had tried BoostMobile in the past, but did not a get a signal at work and had to return it.
Check out all the pay as you go options in your area. You will find something better than what you have. The big company contracts are a huge rip off.

The only thing that makes our plan worth is that we are re-embursed by DH's company for his phone, and then one of the phones on our plan is my dad's and he pays us monthly for it. So we end up only being 'out' about $160 a month. Sprint has the best service where we live so we are just staying with them.

we pay something like $250-300 too on verizon. dh gets unlimited everything iphone from work, three iphones with two heavy data users, and one dumb phone which is maintaining dd's usa phone number.(she lives overseas).. I need a smart phone for work, so think I will deduct some of it this year as a business expense.

We don't need much for data, around 2GB my girls are using now. It's mainly the texting we all do. Isn't crazy what we spend on our phones!!! Does anyone know how hard it is to switch from ATT to Verizon? I just go in, and I can keep my old number? and then cancel my current phone on ATT?

We also have Sprint. Service is okay as long as I'm not in my house, which seems ridiculous in a large metro area like the Twin Cities. Our bill is right around $300 for five smartphones. 20gb of shared data, unlimited talk/text. $27 each for two galaxy s5's and $13 a month for my dd's LG, plus insurance on my DH and DD's phones. Paying close to $30 a month in taxes and fees is what makes me mad.

annabella notice she added the $80 for data after the $150. We too have verizon. Just two iPhones, 6g of data and unlimited other stuff plus insurance of 10$/month /phone We are around $150 ish. I haven't seen the new bill since dd got a phone for Christmas that is now a pay per month since it was cheaper than paying upfront. I only got a smartphone in May of 2015 bc it only added an additional $10/month to my bill from the flip phone I already had. It stinks!

Another Virgin Mobile happy customer here. The only downfall of Virgin Mobile is the fact that you have to pay full price for your phone. (so if you're always one that has to have an upgrade every year or two, this may not work for you)

Look at the prepaid plans with whomever has the best coverage in your area. There are also smaller companies that use the big companies' networks. You'll have the same service you had before, you'll just pay less for it.

I use Straight Talk and buy my own phones. It's $45/month (they'll give you $2 off if you enroll in autopay) and that's unlimited talk, text, data. I spent $169 for my middle of the road, unlocked smart phone. I'm not really a phone person, I don't care about it much as long as it functions like I need it to. I've never had any problems with the Straight Talk service and my HTC Desire suits me just fine.

I have Verizon. I had 2 smart and 1 standard phone on a very old grandfathered unlimited data plan. It was $189 a month. One week ago I went in to add 2 lines, both smart phones. The guy printed out what my payment would be with the new plan. It was actually supposed to be $2 cheaper for giving up the unlimited data. Well I just went online and the bill is saying $313! I will have to call and see why the hell its so high.
