Anyone want to discuss? I just watched all of the episodes on my Kindle. Did you guys like the ending? Did you think Bill was the cancer of the family? For some reason, Barb's (Jeanne Tripplehorn) mouth always open bugged me- maybe she was a mouth breather- IDK. I thought Nikki's behavior was selfish and mean spirited and she never was reprimanded.

I watched it all the way through a few years ago, and again this past winter. Loved the show. Hated Bill. And Niki. And Alby. Bill was always so insistent that everyone do exactly what he wanted, regardless of how they felt about it or how it impacted others. Such a selfish prick! Niki was spoiled and demanding and mean. Alby was just sick and twisted, like his father.

I rewatched the entire series about 2 months ago. I really didn't care for the last season or so. I didn't like the story line at the casino, nor did I like bill running for public office and trying to bring polygamy into the light and make it ok. And I freaking hate the way Bill died. I missed sewing the last season the first time I watched, so at this rewatch, I knew that he died, but not how or why. I figured he was assassinated for political reasons. But to have him murdered by the neighbor because he was depressed was just lame. I really like when series end and all the plot lines are wrapped up and answered, and I just didn't get that with this show.

Yeah, I hated the way he died. There were so many more obvious reasons for him to be killed!

I'm watching it now for the first time on HBOgo, with one episode left in season 4. Before I even began watching, I knew that Bill would die at the end, so I'm really fascinated with how the series is leading up to that. And since I'm at all the crap with the casino, I'm thinking, "okay, so Barb ends up with Tommy, Margene can be with Ben, and that poor district attorney can hook up with the train wreck that is Nikki." I really dislike her character.
DH asked me a couple of hours ago why I'm so interested in this series. I'm not sure I have a good answer other than that I'm fascinated by the polygamist groups.

I found it fascinating too.
So, did anyone else notice how crooked Niki's spine is? One of her hipbones is several inches higher than the other. It became more and more noticeable as the series went on.

I loved it! We watched it years ago when it was actually on HBO still.

I thought it was good, if uneven. I rolled my eyes at Bill. A lot. I liked Barb, and enjoyed her journey, especially exploring her role as a woman in her faith. But basically, I just could NOT understand why Barb, of all people, would have allowed herself to be talked into polygamy. She was mainstream LDS; she knew Bill had been abused and abandoned because of polygamy; they married with the agreement they would remain monogamous. It just doesn't jive that she would have embraced "The Principle" (especially to include Icky Niki) and forsaken so much of her former life. And just because I've been hankering to try out the Spoiler Box: I thought the melodramatic ending - Bill's murder - was just a vehicle to get us to see two developments: 1. The family stayed together, a testament to the sister wives' relationship, and 2. Bill asked Barb to give him a blessing while dying, which wrapped up the whole Barb-yearning-for-priesthood theme. I also spent a lot of time saying, "How in the hell are they PAYING for all this?"

I watched up until the last season, and then I just stopped. It got too weird for me.

Loved that show! It was a staple in my TV diet the entire time it was on. I waffled between liking & hating just about every character on hype show. Except maybe Alby. Pretty much hated him & that creepy Hollis Green (I think that was his name).
Maybe they offed Bill that way because it was from out in left field?
I hated the casino story line, too. Didn't like the 4th wife idea, either.

I loved that series. I should go back and rewatch it. I didn't care for the ending AT ALL! Thinking about it now, I have no idea why I loved it so much... Bill bugged the crap out of me (plus, I will never get past him being Chet, in Weird Science), and I wasn't a fan of any of the wives. Hummmm... I agree Nikki was awful. Margene was so needy, and Barb made sure she was the "mom" of the entire family, sister wives included.

I saw somewhere (can't remember where) that there were a few additional episodes of Big Love outside of the 5 seasons, episodes which were effectively prequels, explaining how the family came together in the first place. Did anyone watch those? Is it worth my trying to find them?

I need to find those because I always thought the same thing--that Barb would never have allowed herself to be talked into a polygamous lifestyle.

I watched it on HBO and lovedit. Growing up around polygmist's in Utah they always intruged me. With Big Love being more mainstreamed was very interesting to me.

I liked that show. Daveigh Chase who played Rhonda on the show is from the town I live in. She also did the voice of Lilo from Lilo and Stitch. I always like the Margene character. Although finding out she was only, was it 17(maybe younger), when she hooked up with Bill...creepy.

Yes, Margene was only 16 when they hooked up. That's what Bill was going to trial for, rape. I wish the story line would have gone into more of how they all met, with flashbacks.

I just watched the whole series again as well. Glad I'm not the only one fascinated with polygamy--my family thinks I'm weird. LOL I think the reason Barb allowed herself to enter into a plyg marriage is because she had cancer and was worried that her kids would be left without a mother. I still can't figure out why she allowed that person to be Nikki; I guess because it was explained early in the series that taking Nikki was more of a business deal. Margene was accepted because she was young and Barb knew she would be the one to bring kids into the family. Anyway, once Barb went into remission and life went back to "normal" I think she regretted that decision. The first three seasons were really good, but the last two kind of jumped the shark (I did cry at the end of the last episode, though).

Did anyone watch those? Is it worth my trying to find them? There are a few prequels in amongst the discs of the box set. I don't know where you would find them online though. If they are the same thing, they are pretty short, I would not call them episodes. If you can't find them, let me know- it would not take too long to type a synopsis.

I watched it from the beginning to the end, I didn't really care for the ending either. The show just fascinated me, that whole lifestyle. Not something I'm interested in but found it interesting . And yeah I realize it was all fiction, lol.

Loved Big Love! Never noticed Barb's breathing issues... I liked the fact that they remained a family at the end.
