Not something I ever did, now would I ever do, but she's a brave lady! I agree with everything she says but there'll be a fair bit of flack don't you think?

I was reading that in the local paper this morning.......I never knew that the practice included parents turning up to school meetings etc., in them! Can imagine some of those Mums protesting that they are actually not pyjamas they are wearing but very expensive leisure wear!

I've just been laughing at this, as scruffy as I was some days, I always managed to put clothes on to do the school run!

I admit, I have a 'drive my kid to school' outfit. It's sweats & a tee or sweatshirt. I wear the same one every day for a week (it's on my body for literally 10 minutes a day) and then gets tossed in the hamper. In my defense my kid is in high school & I'm dropping him right outside school property. I do not get out of the car.
That being said, there's no way in hell I'd show up at a school event in pajamas or slippers. Seriously, people?

We had a parent arrive in pajamas - it was about 10-11 AM. School secretary said, "Oh, do you work nights?" Mom: NO? Why? Secretary: Well, I thought you just got up. Mother apparently never caught on to what the secretary was talking about. I wish the "fashion" of wearing pajamas out in public would go away.

I can understand being appalled by what some people wear outside of their homes.
Today I saw a woman who had on capri pants and open toed shoes, we have 12 inches of snow on the ground! The parking lots are barely cleared you can not walk anywhere with out getting in some snow. Not at all appropriate for the weather !
But I don't believe the school should be telling parents what they can or should or should not wear.
I sometimes threw jeans and a sweat shirt on over my pajamas but I never have ever worn pajamas out of the house. But if I received a letter like that it kinda sorta would make me want too.

I was guilty of wearing my house shoes to drive/pick up the kids to/from school - garage attached to the house, never had to go outside - and the boys being annoyed that I wouldn't get out of the car (duh, house shoes??) but never, ever would I go somewhere in my pyjamas. I only where them to bed! Isn't that what they are for?

I get that it's not good to show up wearing pajamas if you are going inside the school. Dropping off? I'd tell them to kiss my a$$! I generally throw on a pair of jeans, but there are some mornings I am going home and going back to bed. I'd like to write that teacher a letter or show her a video of what I have to deal with on a daily basis. I am a bit jealous she has the time to observe other people and judge them by how she lives her life.

Pretty sure the pic used of the slippers is nothing to do with the actual article.....the pic was used in something else in 2013 it seems. Anyway, those slippers would have looked like rags and been very uncomfortable if used to walk around in near the school mentioned considering the weather that area has been having!

When I was teaching parents in pajamas were the least of the worries for setting a bad example. What about the dad coming to eat lunch with his son wearing jeans with huge marijuana leaves all over them? Or the mom with a T shirt with "Bitch Bitch Bitch" in huge letters on it? Or all the various and sundry shirts advertising different brands of alcohol, most with very scantily clad women? Pajamas, we'll take 'em, LOL!!

I've just been laughing at this, as scruffy as I was some days, I always managed to put clothes on to do the school run! I may go home and shower after drop off, I may just throw on yoga pants for the ride, there may or may not be a bra under the hoodie but by God I won't be wearing my jammies and slippers.

I think these are two separate issues -
I don't see a problem with wearing pjs IF you never get out of the car. I'll wear pjs to go drive thru Starbucks, for example. So if you wear pjs to drive the kids to school and drop them in the parking lot, I don't really see an issue.
Now, if you have to get out of the car and go into the school, talk to the teacher, go to a meeting, or an assembly, you should absolutely be in appropriate (real) clothes.

I always put on clothes for drop off, because I saw someone in a car accident one morning standing there in her slippers and housecoat in front of the entire car rider drop off line.
The mornings I can barely get myself out of bed, I remember that lady and I get dressed!

I work so 99.9% of the time I'm dressed for work dropping DS off at the bus stop. However, on days when I don't go in to the office, I have been guilty to throwing a coat over my PJs and driving him to the bus stop. In nice weather, when we walk, I always put on clothes to go to the bus stop. I am not walking to the bus stop in PJs. And I would NEVER EVER show up to school in my jammies. Especially not for meetings or school performances. WTF?

That teacher wouldn't last around here; pajama pants seem to be the preferred parent attire. My personal rule is to make sure that I leave the house dressed in something that I'd be okay walking home in.

The mornings I can barely get myself out of bed, I remember that lady and I get dressed! This happened to my cousin before too. She ran to the mini mart in her pj's and slippers and her car wouldn't start so she was stranded dressed like that. After that I make sure I have clothes on even when I'm just dropping dd off at her boyfriend's house. I have on occasion just worn my sweat pants but even then I feel weird in them because I don't usually wear them out in public.

My personal rule is to make sure that I leave the house dressed in something that I'd be okay walking home in. That's usually my rule too. Except today. Today I dropped DD off at school in 3/4 sweat pants, a t-shirt, no bra, no make up, hair unwashed from the beach yesterday, teeth not brushed, no shoes. I looked like a monster! But at least I didn't have my PJs on! (Although technically I did, because the t-shirt I had on was the one I wore to bed last night. )

So, it's not OK for my husband to run around town in his Ironman Adult Footsie PJ's? Oh, and his motorcycle club vest (that never comes off).

I admit, I wear my pajamas when I take DD to the bus stop but only now that it's winter and I can wear my knee length puffy coat over it. My pajamas consist of a pair of black pajama pants so between the coat and my Uggs, I'm not sure anyone would notice.
When it's nice weather again and we can walk to the bus stop, I will most definitely be wearing real clothes again, even if it's just sweatpants/yoga pants, etc.

Wow... On the one hand, if you want to go out in your pjs you certainly have the right to do it. But on the other, if you're going to a public place where you'll be seen by others (both adults and impressionable children), you might want to rethink that. It did remind me of a few things that happened when DD was in elementary school. I worked the "car line" every morning, helping kids get out of cars, keeping the line moving, that sort of thing. (We don't have bussing, so there were LOTS of parents dropping off their precious snowflakes every morning.) We saw people dressed in every way you can imagine, including pjs and even nightgowns. But by far, the best was one afternoon when a child wasn't picked up after school. The school secretary called the mother who said she'd be right there. When she got there, the mother called the school office and asked the secretary to walk out her son. The secretary said that she couldn't, it was school policy that the parent come in to get the kid. The mother was adamant that she COULD NOT come in, and said that many times. Finally, the secretary caved and walked out the boy. Turns out that the reason the mom couldn't come in was because she wasn't dressed at all - she was only wrapped in a towel. I kid you not. I couldn't make that up if I tried.

I wear pajamas to drop of my kids, and wore them to pick them up when I worked nights. My pajamas are boring, and could pass for work out clothes though. Yoga type pants and tee shirts. I hate florals! At least the parents are showing up to meetings and assemblies...better than not caring at all.

All I've could think of when I read the title was
*Parents* in pyjamas are coming down the stairs, *Parents* in pyjamas are coming down in pairs, *Parents* in pyjamas are chasing teddy bears, 'cos on Tuesdays they all try to catch them unawares!
Lol
Probably no one else's kids are weird enough to get the reference though.

I wear PJs to drop my kid off at school just about every day. These days it is a t-shirt with loudly patterned fleece pants and a jacket. I don't get out of the car though, just go through the car line and then back home (which is only a couple of minutes away). If I need to get out to help my DD bring something in the school or will be running an errand right after I will get dressed. Otherwise staying in my PJs means I am hella motivated to NOT be late because that would mean going into the office to check her in my PJs. That is something I do not want to do!

I would never leave in pajamas if I knew I had to go inside the building. But, after 18 years of dropping off kids, last year I stopped putting my clothes on to drive to school. My two oldest are on their own, and my youngest is a senior in high school. If he had his act together and showed some responsibility, he could be driving himself.

I think I went into the school maybe twice in pjs, but my pjs were more like sweats. I worked nights and slept days. The school called and said my son was having a seizure both times. Yeah, not taking time to get dressed. I bet I was being judged big time - didn't care.

I generally don't wear pjs out of the house, sweats either unless I'm headed for the gym, but when my teen has run back in the house at 6:30 am having just missed the bus and needs to be at school by 7, I've driven him to school while wearing pjs or sweats with a hat on my head. No time to dress up and still get him there on time. No way would I be getting out of a car or going to a meeting like that!

You know how the old cliche is that your mom always told you to wear decent underwear in case you were in an accident? I apply that train of thought to wearing PJs for school drop-off. If I wore PJs to drop-off, I would feel like I was tempting the fates to make DS have a crazy problem that made me get out of the car, or that the car would break down, or that somehow, somewhere, something would cause me to be outside that vehicle in public in my PJs. No thanks. I'll just get dressed.
