My Dh is in San Francisco this weekend (Going to the Giants game tomorrow night) and I doubt I will get much sleep.
He works 2pm-6am twice a week and I usually sleep fairly well during those times, but I think it's because he is in the same town still. Now he is about 7 or so hours away. So it's a whole new ball game 
Please tell me I'm not the only one who has trouble sleeping when alone?! |

Nope! He's gone as we speak; one kid is at a sleepover; the other is about to crash. I will relish the quiet time! (He's been gone so much lately on weekends. He's on the NASCAR Sprint Cup circuit whenever they have a race, working with his diabetes sponsors Ryan Reed, a driver, and Lilly Pharma. He's loving it, so I am supporting it, but we miss him...)

I can have difficulty going to sleep when my dh is gone unless I stay up late and get really tired. Once I am out though I am out!

My goodness no, quite the opposite!! I just love having the bed to myself, no-one there to wake me up at some ungodly hour....... it's heavenly!

Nope! We recently gave up sleeping in the same bed and I am loving all my peaceful sleep!!! I am a light sleeper and he just makes so many weird breathig noises and he snores, too.

Yes! I am a snuggler and constantly have to touch dh when we sleep. He says I will move if he does so I can be touching him somehow. Usually my feet onto his or his leg. Other times I'm laying against him.

Depends on how long the trip is, if it is just a couple of nights - LOVE it, my cat and I get to spread out on the bed, run my essential oil diffuser, fall asleep with my tv shows on...close the windows...the little things I like. But if it is a longer trip....yeah, it gets harder and I start to have nightmares.

I'm fine usually as DH is a firefighter who works 24 on 48 off but it is different when he works a double or goes away. I can do 24 but more than that and I get antsy.

I drape myself on him and he gets annoyed but never makes me move love him for knowing what I need and letting me do it! |

We always joke (with an underlying seriousness) about how we can't wait for the kids to move out so we can each have our own room!!
Then we argue about who gets the awesome king size bed.
I think DSO would probably punch me if I put my feet anywhere near him. He has a serious foot -what's the opposite of fetish? - not quite a phobia but he can't stand anyone's feet touching him or touching anyone else's feet. And he gets way too hot to snuggle.

Yes. We don't snuggle when we sleep, but I wake up a lot more frequently when he isn't here.

Absolutely not. Before we had kids, DH used to travel for work...a LOT.
He'd be gone for a month at a time. (He'd have work assignments with BellSouth International...Denmark, New Zealand, Thailand) He'd be home for a week, and then be gone again for a month.
I had my German Shepherd...who was VERY protective and not very well socialized...so I had absolutely zero fear. She slept upstairs with me and in the odd chance anyone even made it into the house, I knew they'd never make it up the stairs past her.
I no longer have my dog, but I do have a cat. While she does hiss at strangers and growl at the doorbell, I know she'd never offer any protection. But what she does offer is reassurance. You see, if she's sleeping, without a care in the world, I know things are fine. If she hears things not familiar to her, she's up, moving around, and very "alert". |

I married late in life and for the first 9 years the snuggles were wonderful. DH always wants me to keep him warm. Now that menopause has set in with hot flashes, I'm too warm to want to snuggle. Plus I have a chronic shoulder problem now. . . most likely because of the snuggling  Last summer I would wake up with him laying on my shoulder and it has never been the same! I have been getting acupuncture and massage and chiropractic care and it is slowly healing. What I have noticed when he travelled several month ago, or when I spend the night away my shoulder feels better because he isn't always impinging on the space I need to relax the shoulder. In some ways I miss the snuggles, but really wish I didn't have such a problem with my shoulder. OH, GaJenny sounds like you need a new GSD! We have three and know that we have serious security detail on duty 24-7!  We are expecting puppies in about 7 weeks! |

Nope. We rarely sleep together due to our different work schedules, and honestly, I am the one gone out of town more than he is. It doesn't bother me at all, sleepwise, for him to be away.

I really struggle falling asleep when DH is not here. Then I wake up off and on all night. If he worked out of town often I would be a basket case from lack of sleep.

I hate it when dh isn't home (and that's rare since he may only travel 1-2 times per year for work). I go to sleep very late, usually with the tv on. It's because I'm a big chicken. I own it.

No, dh was active duty military for the first 7 yrs of our marriage and now he works nights. I have a hard time sleeping when he's home snoring in my ear  |

I am always feeling restless when my SO isn't home yet and I'm in bed. I can't sleep untill I hear the key in the door lock. When he's away for a business trip I sleep like a baby though.

No. My dh travels a lot (State Department) so I'm used to it. No snoring for one thing.  I like having my space. And the dog likes it because she takes over his side of the bed. And, I never worry for the same reason someone else mentioned in this thread -- my dog is always on hyper-alert even during the day ("ALERT! a cat in the driveway!!!" or "DANGER! Big scary little girl on her tricycle in front of the house!!!") that I'm quite sure no one could get near our house undetected. Not to mention the Neighborhood Alert System -- that's my dog, and the one next door, and the two next door to that, and then the four down the street (two, one, and one, not four at the same house!). They have a communications system to "discuss" when the mailman arrives on the street so a burglar doesn't stand a chance. |

We're both retired so he's always here now, but before when he was away I had to put pillows in the bed to have something to back up against. Then I was fine.

My DH has been gone for about the last year and a half due to work related training and a PCS move. It's been a challenge to sleep most nights. You would think I would be used to it by now, but there are still nights when I wake up in a cold sweat, having a small panic attack. I take medication for chronic pain and thankfully a side effect is drowsiness or I would probably never get ANY sleep. LOL.

I don't have trouble now that I am older, I used to when my kids were young and I was alone with them.
You'd think it would be the opposite now that I am here alone in the big house and he is away but I'm not. However, we have a home security system and I turn that on every night and it makes me feel better. Probably a false sense of security, but I'm going to stick with it!

When I was married my then husband was gone a lot and for 3-7 months or so at a time and I loved having my bed and time to myself after the kids were in bed. SO is not gone very often but when he is, I don't sleep nearly as well and that surprised me the first few times it happened. He is somewhat chatty though so I do still enjoy the quiet when he is gone.  |
