I'm going through stuff in the basement and when I redid my closets a lot of stuff got boxed up and put in the basement. I found a box of some really cute clothes, many of them are empire waist and so cute, that I was wondering if anyone still wears this style. Please don't tell me I should wear what I like, I know that. I'm wondering what other people are doing, because like most people, that does affect (to a point) what I like.

I'm so fashionably challenge that I don't even know what an empire waist is.

I've never worn them, because my chest is way too big to emphasize like that, so I can't help you with that.

I love them but I could be on the line with fashionably challenged too.
When in question I usually see what's for sale on a few of my favorite stores, or even stores I'd like to shop (if we had them near).

I usually call those baby doll tops.
They are kind of last season, but I agree- if you like them, wear them!
I have a few I wear with a blazer or cardigan on top.

Nordstrom.com has ten results for empire-waist tops and they are all little girls or maternity.
So, not exactly in style presently, but if you like them and they are flattering, you might be able to style them in a way that could look current.

*Raising my hand*
The ones I have are more summery, so I haven't worn them lately, but will crack them out again in the spring.

For some reason, they look good on a lot of people-just not me. I look like an almost 50 year old who got her self some how knocked up. Not a good look for me.

Wear one. If people stare at you open mouthed, they are obsolete. Actually, I believe I've seen that style in current catalogs.

I wish I had worn them when I was skinny. I think there's a fine line with the fabric and fit so you don't like you're wearing a maternity top.

I always liked those. Sadly they have been out of style here for a few years.

I have a couple in my closet that I plan to wear again in the spring and summer. They might be out of style, but that's not going to be a factor for me. For reference, I'll turn 50 by the end of the year.

Who cares what's in style? Wear what you like and looks good on you. Personally, I'm unable to wear this style as the "waist" seam usually falls well above where it's supposed to on a smaller person, but if they look good on you, wear them.

I was cleaning out my closet the other day and I found one. I tried it on and I looked very pregnant in it. I'm 54 years old. It went in the donate pile. But I do think they are cute. Just not on me.

I'm still waiting for them to come back into fashion. It's the style that fits my body type best, but I can't really find them anymore.

This is how they look on me. So no matter how much I love the style, and wouldn't care if it was still "in-style" or not, I just can't wear them.

I recently removed a few from my closet that had the wider band and the ties in the back style. I still wear the ones that are lighter material and a slimmer silhouette to work, usually under a jacket or cardigan. I like that they don't make me look pregnant but still hide my tummy and allow me freedom of movement when I'm working with children.

Empire waist clothing is flattering on me, so yeah, I wear them all the time. I honestly couldn't care less about 'fashion', I care more about what suits my body type and is flattering on ME.

Yes, I would say they are still easy to find in the stores and online, so must still be somewhat in fashion.
I like this look and feel very comfortable in it.
I must say that some of the other cuts of tops in style now are horrible. I hate the short in front long in back - can't wait for that to pass (reminds me of the early 90s). I don't like the asymmetrical stuff either or the straight box cut.

I don't currently have any, but I'm not opposed to them at all, especially 3/4 sleeves or tunic styles. I don't give two squirts about what others think is in style.

I loved being pregnant. I loved babies. I even like the toddler age. But if I were to get knocked up now? At my age?? OMG. I can't even entertain the thought of the idea. It would be...*shudder* ... I would be SIXTY SIX YEARS OLD WITH A SIXTEEN YEAR OLD KID. That is the stuff nightmares are made of.

I don't think that they are really ever out of style as it is a casual look that doesn't have a faddish look to it. I wouldn't wear them with leggings as they tend to be too short for that. But unless the pattern is super trendy or it has other embellishments that date it horrifically, I think you are good to go.
And I am a 58 year old librarian from Bumfuck, Pennsyltucky, so I should know!
