Conehead movie is on. I'm laughing so much!
"parental unit" "we will inaugurate our fire pit and char mammal flesh. Great! I'll bring coleslaw."
I miss the good old days.

We lived in a big city, but there were a fair amount of green spaces around. We would be gone from breakfast until dinner on some days and others we came home for lunch. There was also a neighborhood pool that opened in the summer. We were the definition of play outside.

One of my favorite memories and things I miss is riding my bike around our neighborhood. We had awesome neighbors who would make us cookies and give us something to drink while we rode in their driveway.

Playing outside until the street lights came on, walking to the park or school to play. We would pester my Mom for change and permission to walk to the store to get candy. Things I would never let my children or grand children do today.
And on Fridays, my Dad would bring my sister and me a kids meal from Burger Chef. (The closest McDonalds was about 30 minutes away.) I can still remember be so excited for Daddy to get home from work. LOL!!

I miss playing a game we all loved which we called 'Kerby'. It involved throwing a ball across the street and trying to hit the kerb in such a way that the ball bounced back to you. We could play it for hours. I'm moving back to my childhood home, and two friends who have also moved back to their parents' houses have all said that we should go out and have a game. I think it would need to be in the middle of the night! But probably what I miss most is my family. My parents and my two brothers are all dead, and there is no-one I can reminisce with.

My childhood was in the '60s. I miss my pretty yellow room where I played 'paperdolls' that I cut from the big Sears and Montgomery Ward catalogs. I could layout a whole house with beds, living room, kitchen and swingset in the back yard. Those catalogs sold everything! My favorite thing to do was find a 'Mom' who was posed with her hand on her hip and slip a baby into the space I cut out.
Dads were hard to find because they usually only show the bottoms or tops but not the entire man unless they were having a suit modelled. It was wonderful when a new catalog arrived so I could have the old one to add to my family or update the house.

I miss my Dad. He wasn't around much when I was little but I went to live with him when I was about 12. He passed away when I was 24. I really got to know him when I was a teenager. I sure miss him!

Oh and Spangles Thanks gar. I miss Spangles too, but not the Old English varieties! They were horrible, and pointless as well!

There was also a neighborhood pool that opened in the summer. We were the definition of play outside. This was me and my siblings and friends. I was raised in suburbia on Long Island. A gang of us kids would take off in the summer on our bikes at 10 with a sack lunch, ride 5 miles to a large wooded park with hiking trails and ponds, and wouldn't come home 'til suppertime - with no cellphones! The oldest was maybe 10 or 11. We had so much fun and never once got in trouble, other than a scraped knee or two. Oh for the good old days when kids actually wanted to be outside!

What I miss is that all the stuff we used to eat back then actually tasted GOOD. I bought a box of Twinkies for my kid and ate one for the first time in years after they came back, and UGH! They are horrible now! Same thing with Spaghettios, those chocolate covered mini donuts and countless other things I fondly remember from my youth. Blech! Nasty. Such a disappointment.

Losing my shit upon hearing the ice cream truck! I'll hear it now and it brings back those memories. Dropping everything to run home as fast as you could to get some money and then chasing the truck down the street.

Childhood was the 60s. We were outdoors from sunup to sundown, free-rein kids. I developed a love and reverence for nature that has shaped who I am as a person, and I feel profound sadness that DS did not have this experience.

We lived in Omaha and my area had a creek that went for miles. There was park and wooded area all along the creek. One day I stepped on a long nail and still didn't go home until dinner. Got in big trouble for that.

Just the 80's ... I was a teenager and it was awesome ... loved the fashion and music ... Duran Duran were my obsession Apparently, we were twins. I remember begging my mom to let me break the rule of "no taping anything to the painted walls" in my room, in order to hang my Duran Duran picture collection. I finally wore her down and got permission to hang them on one wall. I planned that bugger out to the half inch so I could get as many pictures as possible up.

I recently heard a comedian sat that she was told by her parents theta when the music was turned on it meant the truck was out of ice cream. Genius. My parents were pretty cheap and we maybe got something once a summer.

Playing marbles, skipping ropes and going out for the day in the long Summer holidays just riding around on bikes taking lemonade and sandwiches for lunch and arriving back in time for dinner. That just isn't possible for kids now. Oh, and muffins and crumpets from the local bakers which were delicious toasted......not found anything like them available since!

Hanging out at my Grandparents' house on the weekends! I miss them so much. I logged so many hours driving around antiqueing with my grandpa when I was learning how to drive. And I used to go play bingo with my grandma all the time. Fun times with great, awesome people!

Best tv night in my entire history was the CBS Saturday evening lineup from All in the Family thru The Carol Burnett show. It doesn't get any better than laughter for 3 hours straight.

That's one of the things I miss about my family ~ no one has my childhood memories any longer and, being a Navy brat, I don't have friends from my early years. So I totally get it. I had a wonderful childhood and miss the innocence we had back then. I played with dolls until I was in 8th grade for pete's sake.

I always said it was Roger the drummer because my friend wanted John the bass guitarist ... but now that I'm old I'll admit that it has always been John

Just discussing this with a friend, I miss only having telephone calls when I was home. That I could go places and do things without having a phone. I actually do a good job of ignoring mine, then I get 'in trouble' with the family. siiiiiigh

Dropping everything to run home as fast as you could to get some money and then chasing the truck down the street. OMG yes, and I STILL lose my shit when I hear Mr Whippy coming down our street even now!! Just the 80's ... I was a teenager and it was awesome ... loved the fashion and music ... Duran Duran were my obsession When I was 15 ( so about 1983) I did work experience at the one of the most popular radio stations in Melbourne. They were running a competition where you got free tickets to a Duran Duran concert and I think you even got to go backstage and meet the band. I remember they had all the entries in a big box, which they emptied into a big pile on the floor and started going through them. There was one girl who had sent in hundreds of entries and so they chose her as the winner. I remember being surprised that it wasn’t really a random draw, but happy for this girl who was obviously a huge fan. I remember begging my mom to let me break the rule of "no taping anything to the painted walls" in my room, in order to hang my Duran Duran picture collection. I finally wore her down and got permission to hang them on one wall. I planned that bugger out to the half inch so I could get as many pictures as possible up. I must have been spoiled because I was allowed to put up whatever I wanted, so I had posters the walls and even my roof! I'm sure I would have had at least one Duran Duran poster up there at some stage.

Those were the days that I loved and adored my Grannie. Before I realized that she is a controlling narcissist who loves to play master manipulation games. It is a difficult thing to realize that the woman you loved so much is not who you thought she was.

LOVED DURAN DURAN, my walls were covered in posters. Was so sad my mom wouldn't let me go to their concert when I was 14, was in the city 5hrs away!!! My child is benefitting from my memories, took her to se her fav band, got tickets for their next tour and spent ages painstakingly removing all her posters so she could save them when we move!!!!!
