What are these? I was at my local Savers. (Similar to a Goodwill.) and could not figure out what the heck these were. No holes in these anywhere...

They used to use them on top of electric poles.

When I was young, my older brothers used to ride their bikes around looking for and collecting these.

I have a few myself. They're cool looking, I love old weird things like that. Some of them are valuable, though most aren't.

Did you buy them? Pinterest has some cool ideas for converting them into lights or cost hooks.

My first thought was penis-shaped mason jars, but I see that is not the case.

I have three of them from my father who worked for North Western Bell for years. When he retired, they were engraved. Love them.

I have a shorter blue one. Back in the 70's my late MIL had little ceramic bases made with a single night light bulb in the center. The insulator sits on the base over the bulb. When the light is turned on it casts a pretty glow. I've kept it all these years, but it has been packed away a long time.

I have a few. My grandfather worked on the Nickle Plate Railroad in the 1930-40's. I've put a tea light under them for night lights for my grandson.
With that said: gah. I never noticed the, ahem, unfortunate shape. I will never be able to un-see that. LOL

I only remember seeing the white porcelain ones in the UK......I don't think I've seen the pretty green glass ones.

My first thought was penis-shaped mason jars, but I see that is not the case. I thought penis-shaped salt and pepper shakers. But she said no holes. Still thought it was a penis something.

My first thought was some type of butt plug, until I realized the size. But my mind was blank after that.

LOL, as someone who already knew what they were, all of the penis comments are cracking me up. I never ever saw that in them.

I only remember seeing the white porcelain ones in the UK......I don't think I've seen the pretty green glass ones. They come in several colors of glass. They pop up fairly frequently at estate auctions. Seems like everyone kept a few. Occasionally, there's a huge box full. And the comments are entertaining to say the least!

I tried to overlook the phallicism and take the high road, but then all I could think of was Daleks.

I just went wandering to see if I remembered my colors right. Turns out, I have two white porcelain ones, one green and one a light purple. I am almost positive I have another green one somewhere, but can't seem to find it. I texted my mom to ask if she remembered where they came from but haven't heard back. No one in my family has any kind of relationship with electrical industry so I am sure they were picked up from some kind of junk store. The comments are pretty funny.
