I would like to see Bye Bye Birdie, Phantom of the Opera, Oklahoma! or Fiddler on the Roof. Bye Bye Birdie would be fun!

Cabaret Chicago
I love every note of every song from both of these shows. And they're a little dark, which would be a nice change.

It was a "fun" production rather than a serious live performance. I don't agree, Rocky has always been a fun show...that's always a part of it and ad-libbing is always in the stage productions too, this was no different and it was clear that everyone took the performance seriously. What's the difference between a live, one-off charity performance and live musical? This one was a little less formal, but that doesn't make it any less valid as a live televised performance. Saying they aren't the same thing is just splitting hairs.

I think part of the reason that Grease Live was so successful is that it is a movie that all of the teens have seen and love. The Sound of Music was a snoozefest to that age group, so I think they need to focus on shows that most people have seen in one form or another. I think you're right. That being said, my two choices (Fiddler on the Roof & Thoroughly Modern Millie) wouldn't go over very well, lol. Hairspray should do well.

The difference in my opinion is that it was produced with celebrities that volunteered to do it for charity rather than a cast that were chosen and paid to do a live musical performance specifically for a normal TV production. That was why I put fun in " " It was a production made for charity which happened to be televised not a made for Television production. Now if it was made specifically as a live television performance that would be another matter but you can't compare that with a charity performance that happened to be televised that wasn't intended to be taken as a serious production. So from that aspect one wouldn't expect some of the cast to be suitable for the roll they were playing nor would it be expected to be fairly true to the usual production we would expect to see. I was also referring to your opinion as in ......

Granted, I'm not up on everything British, but from what I could tell the only celebrities are the ones who read the narration, which is a small part of the overall show. And from Googling, this was a production that they just so happened to time to be played on tv for charity. The actors WERE picked for their roles, all the celebrities were the one offs. From what I see it had a two week run with the original Riff Raff and was supposed to go on tour in December, but I stopped reading after that.

The main parts are not the same in that live recording as went on tour. It was only a 11 day run at the Playhouse Theatre and they had the one gala performance for the live filming of it during that run. It's Liam Tamne that plays Frank N Furter and the rest are not the same either. David Bedella is in " In the Heights" and opened the beginning of October. Unless he had a 11 day break, which is unlikely, from the "In The Heights" to do the rest of the run at the Playhouse it must have been a one off for him on that evening too. Presumably because he's done it twice before a few years ago.

West Side Story! I loved Grease. Hated The Sound of Music. Booorrrrrring. The other shows (Peter Pan, Sound of Music, The Wiz) were all filmed over here (the studios are blocks from my house!) We don't have live audiences though and I think that's why I liked Grease so much better. There was just a bigger energy about the whole thing. The others all bored me.
