This year we have decided to have a theme for our party- come as your favourite song. Pretty sure my husband is doing Rock Lobster but I'm still trying to come up with ideas. I sew so can do homemade costumes without many problems. At the moment I'm tossing up between 99 Luft balloons or Bat out of Hell, but I'm not really THAT excited about either of them so am looking for creative suggestions. Thanks! Corinne

I think Bat out of Hell would be easier to make, and easier to get. These are retro songs, will the younger generation get it (not that it matters)? We do Halloween too, but I don't like having to explain who we are supposed to be, I want people to just 'get it'. Like the year we were Ratatouille, yep, we had to explain that one, and it was the same year the movie came out. or even the year we were Fandango puppets - still had to explain that one:

Weird Al is really popular right now. If I needed a costume to go with your theme, I would have a shirt made like his air brushed one in his song "Tacky" and find some other clashy clothes to go with. Easy and cheap.

If your husband goes as Rock Lobster, you should go as Rock Candy. It's an excellent song by Montrose - Sammy Hagar is the lead singer. That way you two can have a theme-within-a-theme!

Fun!!! You can go for shock value and dress as Itsy, Bitsy, Teenie, Weenie, Yellow Polka-Dot Bikini. No? Okay, how about Puttin' on the Ritz or Dancing Queen or Video Games (by Lana Del Rey) or 16 Candles or Chantilly Lace. Oh, Christmas Tree?

I love that theme! Some titles that come to mind for me are:
Tiny Dancer Poker Face Werewolves of London Monkey Man Brilliant Disguise Blue Christmas or White Christmas
Ohh, those really get my creative juices flowing.
Have fun planning!

Thank you all for your suggestions. I don't know all the song but am going to do some searching for costume ideas. And I might have to change my avatar picture after Halloween with this years' costume - to replace the picture from last year. Corinne ETA And I think all the guests would go home if I welcomed them wearing an itsy bitsy yellow polka dot bikini!
