Ugh, I HATE starting something at "odd" times, I really wish I would have started a 2016 PL. I don't take a ton of pictures (part of why I want to do it, I think it would help me take more) so I don't know how much I have to go back and use. It didn't interest me, but the more I think about what 2016 brings, the more I WANT to have the daily documented. It's going to be a huge year and I want to remember it. How would you go about documenting the last month, particularly if you don't remember what you did yesterday?! I am way too type A to just start with today.

I do project life monthly (meaning I don't sort things by week).
On the 31st of the month, I pull all my photos/things I have saved and grab a calendar. Then I make a list of what I want to include. Some months there are a bunch of things to add and others not so much.
It works for me and I am able to keep up with my album.
I did try documenting weekly and well, that was just too big a pain in the butt.

I do the same as above and am not current, ie working on 2015. Don't make it harder than it needs to be.
PL is just a line of products to scrap with. Do what works for YOU!

No, it's not too late to piece together the last month. How much really happens on January, anyway? Do you have goals or lists or hopes for the year ahead? Can you get pictures from Facebook and friends to fill in? Just put some pretty cards in pockets. No one will know you did it after the fact.

Thanks everyone! I looked over everything and your guys are all correct, it shouldn't be hard at all to piece together January. For some reason I had it in my head that I had to have a bunch of pictures, when I really don't! I feel so late to the party, it's been all the rage for years and I am just now showing interest randomly today. I am really excited to get it started though. DH is going to be THRILLED that I have yet more supplies that I need to go buy!

I could have written your post word for word and I'm kind of kicking myself for not thinking of starting sooner. Then the OCD part of me thinks I can't go backwards (even if I am the only one knows it was done in retrospect, I still know).
For those of you that do it monthly, how much of the "every day" stuff do you include? Do you tend to focus on the bigger events that happened during the month or is it a mix of the big and little moments?

It is never too late to start PL. If 2016 is going to be an important year for you, I say jump in now. If going back through January is overwhelming for you, just start with February. And maybe add a small recap of January depending on how many photos and stories you have for that month.

Yeah, what everyone said. Just go back and write some notes about things/events you would like to include from January. Put together a bit of journaling with your pics and a few cards and you will be good to go. I'm starting a 9x12 pocket album for 2016, I've addressed about 8 things that happened with three or four more to add. I'm definitely not striving for a daily entry. Do it as it happens or at the end of the month. It will be easy to recap just a month. Do what makes you happy. I use some purchased cards, though not the Pl ones, and make some of my own. Enjoy!

I might mix it up with a few photos of things that were important in Jan. If you still have some snow, take a picture of it. If you have a décor item you put out in Jan, take a picture (I have a wreath I put on the door in Jan.) If you found yourself drinking hot cocoa to keep warm in Jan, take a photo of the mug.
I might also take a photo of my car license plate with 2016 on the registration sticker if I hadn't renewed it yet. Or a photo of a calendar page of January, just to have a few photos to include on a 2 page spread. I would probably even do a collage photo and put 4 of them on a 4 x 6.

Do you tend to focus on the bigger events that happened during the month or is it a mix of the big and little moments? For me, its a mixture of both. For instance, I was pulling my photos for January - not much has happened. SO I will include more everyday type stuff like picking kids up from school (selfie), photos of our thermometer for the weather, recipes we made. Now, I already know Feb is going to be busy - we have a trip to Vegas this weekend, my son gets his class ring, track meets, valentines, etc so I like probably have less everyday stuff. By December, I will have a good mix of everything. Remember to not look at each month as a 'whole' - it is only part of the year. By the time you document the whole year it will be a mix and will make your book complete.

PL does not equal a photo a day. Sheesh I bet Becky Higgins wishes she had never done that Project 365 kit for CK.

You can also take screen shots of your social media to add. I actually like to wait until the posts I do in Facebook has the date on them before I screen shot them.

I use PL products to documents small things/stories by month. I use as many or few pages as needed to document. I also add 12x12 pages after my PL pages for the stories photos that I traditionally scrap. I use a monthly accordion file folder for each year to organize my epherma and notes by month. When I'm ready to scrap I take all the stuff out for the whole month and start planning my pages. Occasionally I will organize chronologically with in the month but more often I will group photos and items by topic (school, sports, dd, ds, me, home, etc). One monah I did a currently theme and each spread/page had one currently theme (currently watching: screenshots of TV show ads, photos of ds playing baseball, our neighbor kids, etc). Every month is different which helps to keep me from getting board.

The first year that I did PL, I started at about this time. I just used whatever pictures that I had and pieced together a couple of spreads for the missed weeks. When I look back at the album now, unless you are specifically looking at dates, you really don't notice that January has less content than the rest. The album as a whole tells the story and whether you started in January or February won't really matter to you down the road. I started doing Project Life in 2012 and am still going...I really love these albums so much! They have so many details that I never would have remembered otherwise. You can do it!

Thanks everyone! I have started to cobble stuff together and I think I will really enjoy this! I do have another question, would any of you have any suggestions for how I can store pages until I am able to get some page protectors? DH put me on a spending freeze for the next month or so(ok, maybe it is self-imposed, but I prefer to blame it on DH!)so I can only create pages, but not store them in protectors. I have some core kits already because I use them on my traditional 12x12 layouts, so that's no problem.
I feel like without the page protectors it could become a big mess. :/

What about ziplock bags? Target (and I'm sure other places) has the jumbo size that fits 12x12 paper. I've always wondered if you could go to a pizza place and buy an empty box. That might be really cheap.

Maybe you could complete your page design, take a picture of it, then store it in a ziplock or envelope till you purchase the page protectors.

I always run a month behind so the year I did my first project life I decided I wasn't going to do it anymore. I thought how many pictures of what we had for dinner or a cluttered room do I need to take, of course it was more then that but that was my thought at the time. So in February, I had completed by first album of project life and had a huge smile on my face. I think it was so satisfying to have completed a scrapbook. I have done traditional scrapbooking for years but never really feel caught up. Project life had a beginning and an end and it felt amazing. Complete. Finished. Then my kids looked thru it and loved it. They said many times, "oh wow,I forgot about that" Then I was sad that I hadn't started another book in January. So, I decided to start on February 14. My first entries were cards written about how I wasn't going to do it a second year because I thought my everyday mundane life was boring, etc, then how much it meant to my family and my feeling of satisfaction of having a project that was complete. I don't regret not having January in that book, it's part of my story. I'm now on my fifth year! I also don't have any of this year's in page protects yet. I have written the cards out, and just store them in the box they came in. Once I have the pictures developed and page projectors in hand,I will assemble them. I also don't do anything fancy, just pictures and journaling cards. That's a long post just to say, start where you are, journal why you started when you did and you will have a big smile on your face at the end of the year!

Just do it! There aren't any rules - just do the rest of the year. If you desperately want to include January, use the app. I downloaded the Project Life app ages ago but then deleted it when my phone got too full Last week, I made space to download it and have already done three pages of January events. Between the app and actual pocket pages (which I enjoy more but do less often), I think I might be able to stay the course this year.

Remember to not look at each month as a 'whole' - it is only part of the year. By the time you document the whole year it will be a mix and will make your book complete. Well this is one of those things that was probably obvious to everyone but me. As Gru from Despicable Me would say "light bulb". Project life had a beginning and an end and it felt amazing. Complete. Finished. I really like that about PL. I've only done the weekly documentation once and I've done a couple of years of a one 8x8 spread for the month but this will be my first time combining the two to get a more complete picture of my life at this point. I pulled out some supplies last night and started playing so I guess now I'm in for the year.

Chinagirl828, I just uploaded my pics for January to print at Costco! I wonder if there might be any interest in a monthly PL share thread? It sounds like a lot of people are doing PL based on this thread. It could be a "share whatever you are working on - this month, last month, or last year!" type of thing. Thoughts?

I do it monthly and I just go with what ever I have for that month some months I have a ton of photos others not so much.
You can supplement your months with photo prompts there are tons of them on pinterest.
For January you could include a bucket list of things you want to accomplish/see/make. You could list the books you read that month, movies/shows you binge watched. Do a get to know you spread on everyone in your family including a photo and several facts about them. Your resolutions or goals for yourself and your family members. Take a photo of what gas cost/note how much groceries cost a gallon of milk/loaf of bread/ etc how much snow you have if you have snow.Things you have pinned on pinterest. All this stuff seems mundane but a year or several years from now it will be neat to look back on.

It could be a "share whatever you are working on - this month, last month, or last year!" type of thing. Thoughts? I'd be in. I know from the last time I did this project I really ran out of steam around Sept. When I got back to it I had several weeks to catch up on which just seemed overwhelming. I am so glad you asked I was hoping to do it and then realized it was mid January and hadn't documented anything. I think I will try it after all and just modify it. I love all the ideas on here for extra pages and stories to tell. We tried several new recipes in January and they will go into the album especially since they were keepers. I am hoping this will jump start my creativity as I have been in a major slump for months now .

I so want to try this. I did one PL type layout and felt like I wasn't doing much but dropping stuff in the slots. I did add a few elements but I don't feel like it was "enough". I like the idea of doing it monthly instead of weekly.
And no I don't think it's too late to start.
