Hey Peas, I'm developing some crafting camps for this summer at my business, Cut & Paste Craft Studio. My high school and college-aged employees are helping me develop themes. One of the ideas they all keeps suggesting is a "Harry Potter" themed camp, making wands, castles, potions, etc. I love the idea, but is Harry Potter popular with younger kids, say the 6-10 year olds?

I saw a girl about 10-12 reading one of the books at a restaurant I was at recently. she must have been there for a bday party with the family but she was pretty engrossed in the book the whole time I was there.

My kids are 11,9 and 6 and yes they still love Harry Potter. Our library did Harry Potter week last year although somehow we managed to miss most of it... it seemed very popular.

My 12 year old started reading Harry Potter when he was 9. He's re-read them many times since then and still watches the movies. We went to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal this past Fall and there were lots of little wizards there. So, yes, I'd say it's popular with the younger kids.

plus, with all the Harry Potter theme parks they are opening at Universal Studios, it keeps it relevant.

We were at the theme parks a few weeks ago. No other place in the park was as crowded as Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade. There were kids there, but I would say there were lots of people 15 years and older. The books get really dark, so I can see not having a bunch of kindergartners there. I would say about half the people in the park were also wearing clothing to match the theme. Probably a good 30% of the people were also wearing the school robes from all of the houses. So, yes, I would say it would be a good theme. Kids love the whole magical theme even if they don't know HP. Shows like Grimm and popular Enchanted books have made it in again.

Harry Potter is very popular but it's also copyrighted/trademarked material. You need to host a Magic camp or a Wizarding camp, not a Harry Potter camp (unless you pay for licensing rights, of course).

My daughter's high school is having a Harry Potter themed dance next weekend if that helps. I think its still very popular.

I work with someone whose college aged daughter and her friend developed and run a summer wizard camp that sells out very quickly, so I say yes.

My Friend's 12 year old is obsessed with it. She is having a Harry Potter themed birthday party this Saturday with all of her friends. They are watching the movies and dressing up in robes etc. She's so excited.
There were four Hermione's at my dd's school this Halloween. Two were in the 3rd grade and two were in 6th.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
My kids are much older, so I just didn't know.
We definitely won't be calling it a Harry Potter camp. Probably something like "Wizard's Week." We also plan things relating to Minecraft and Star Wars which will probably be "Mining and Crafting" and "The Stars and Beyond" or something like that. We also hope to do some camps featuring crafts from other countries and animal themed.

Just an FYI DaFont has the Harry P font for free. There is another one with dingbats of all of the characters.
