I plan to replace my seven year old DSLR with a mirrorless camera before our trip to Europe in March. I would like to acquire a cross body style bag that has a padded section for the camera and extra lens but also space for wallet, passport and other purse things. I would prefer for it to be cute - no black nylon.
Any recommendations?

This is mine from Jo Totes. It's a little large, but is fully padded inside with adjustable separators for lenses and has two straps, one for cross-body, one for shoulder only. It has several compartments and is very well made. I know there's a smaller one on the site, too.

Good luck with that, LOL. I think it's easier to find a unicorn.
After I got a mirrorless, I did exhaustive searching for a bag, but nothing was quite what I wanted (probably because I wanted the tiny Harry Potter bag that could fit an entire living room worth of furniture). The one that has worked the best for me has been a small fabric Case Logic messenger bag I got at Target, but it's a business-y gray.
I also got a Porteen Gear messenger bag. You can pick your own leather and fabric accent. Pretty but the leather made it a little heavier than I wanted.
Other more girly brands are Kelly Moore, which are all leather so a little pricier. Also Epiphanie, Jill-E, the Jo Tote and the Shutterbag, which I liked a lot, but a friend had one and she felt it hadn't held up very well to travel. Photojojo also sells bags. The leather Ona bags made specifically for mirrorless cameras aren't terribly girly but I think they're nice-looking. There are probably other things that have hit the market since I was looking.

I travel a lot with my camera and I use a Lowepro. LowPro BagsIt's a backback and very comfortable. I like that the zipper is on the inside of the bag so pick pocketers can't get into the main part (important when your in big cities). I have the 300 and it can hold my camera (Cannon Mark ii), 3 lens or 2 lens and my flash. It has a couple smaller pockets for cords, gum, ID, money, a water bottle holder on the side. DH has the smaller version but it's too small for my camera/lens.

If you have extra funds go for the Ona Capri. It is an absolutely DIVINE bag that can fit my Sony A7ii with 16-35 lens plus my 70-200 lens. It has extra space for my wallet, passport, lip balm, keys, and a few other small items. There is also a zipper pocket on the front that is wide and deep. The strap can be extended to be VERY long and fit comfortably cross-body. I am six feet tall and buxom and the strap fits great on my body with the bag hitting just below the hip. I'm getting to the point I am going to start carrying it as an everyday bag because it's just that awesome. www.onabags.com/store/shoulder-bags/the-capri.html?color=antique-cognac

The most amazing camera bag I've ever had is the Think Tank pro camera bag. It really does fit under the seat in an airline (so I don't worry about checking it if there are no more overhead bin spaces left -- it's fit under the seat of the smallest puddle jumpers) and is so easy to wheel around. However, it's not what I want to lug around a mountain path or other places on my vacations, so I have a Jo Tote, too, that I pack in my luggage to use in country. That way, I can take all of my lenses and then choose the ones I need for that day. The Jo Tote works nicely to take my camera to family events, musical performances, etc.

I have several different bags depending on the situation. I have a Canon backpack for the mountains, a Vituri for trips where I want two lenses, and I found a little black nylon bag to take to Universal so it would fit in the tiny lockers when I went on the big rides. Right before Christmas I got a Tamron lens that is 16-300mm. It can take the place of both of my Canon lenses and that means it fits in the little bag. It is also nice to take to the lake because is small and can get a bit damp. kath323 that Jo Totes looks amazing. Off to check that out.

Forget cute. Cute is for purses. A camera bag is to protect your camera and your lenses and therefore it's number one priority is function. Function tops cute. At least in my opinion. I'm much more concerned about my camera gear and getting a top quality bag that will protect it, then getting a mediocre bag that won't but is sold because it's cute. I've bought Tamrac bags for years because I'm sold on their quality. The bags I've bought are waterproof so I don't have to worry if I'm out during a trip and it starts raining (like my last trip to Holland where it rained 9 out of the 10 days we were there). They are cleverly designed to take advantage of the space within the bag. Choosing which bag depends on how much gear you have and how much you decide to carry with you on your trip. I like to travel lightly myself. I have to admit though I haven't bought a new bag in probably 10 or more years. Lowepro is also a very highly regarded brand. DH likes this brand and has a bag from this company. I've been shopping for a new bag myself and I'm looking at Lowepro more myself-they seem to have more options. A great place to look at all of the various bags available online is www.bhphotovideo.com. They also offer great prices and customer service. I buy all of my camera gear from this company. Yes, Amazon is cheaper but as far as customer service this place can't be beat. Debbie in MD.

I use the Lowepro passport sling as it's lightweight. It has room for a camera and additional lense. It has additional room for wallet and personal items. It has outside pockets including one for a water bottle.

I found a great deal on QVC last year and bought 3 bags - the Rose, the Gracie and the Betsie (all in different colors). They look great and I use them even when I don't bring my camera with me. For long trips with my camera + lenses, I go with the Gracie (the one pictured above).

It's been on my list to get a new camera bag since my old bag became too small once I got a full frame DSLR and new lens (I have a backpack and a carrier for hiking, but wanted something that looked nicer for non-hiking times). This thread popped up just when I was thinking I needed a bag for an upcoming long weekend. I took a look at this bag and a few others (Kelly Moore too) and ended up ordering the Gracie. It just came today and I love it! I can actually carry on all my camera gear on the plane (camera, lens, external flash, two filter sets and filter holder) plus wallet, Kindle, etc. Love that it has the two straps and it look great. Thanks for recommending!

I like my Travelon bag. It's big enough for my Sony mirror less plus a lens. It's a regular purse so everything fits in but it's not too big. It's has water holders on the side and is rfid proof and the straps a cut proof.

I have the Kelly Moore Songbird bag in black. It has a purple lining, which I love. For me, stuff gets lost in a black lining. It's not leather, although I was fooled, the material is that nice. So it's weather resistant and was only $200.
One feature that I really like is the insert. It has a full insert that comes completely out of the bag. Plus, you can configure the insert to fit what lenses you are carrying with you. I have a full time volunteer job at a theatre and I like to keep my lens attached to the camera body for quick access. I have the insert configured so that one divider is bent over and the camera hand hold rests on that. This way, none of the weight of the camera is on the lens or the coupling.
The bag holds all but my long lens and still zips. It has enough pockets to keep things organized without having to search through 20 pockets to find what I need. It's 3 years old and still looks brand new, in spite of being down on the sidelines at football games and being hauled to and from the theatre several times a week.
