My dd13's drama teacher is asking for make up donations. Do you think the make up should be new and unopened? I can ask but I thought y'all would know. This is my first kid in drama.

Yes new stuff. She should give you a list of what product she wants.
Anybody going on stage should have their own eye stuff and hair stuff.

My DD is a junior at her HS for the performing arts.
Donations should be new. Stuff your student uses can be your cast offs. I often send in stuff from my Ipsy or Birchbox subscriptions. DD usually steals half of it, but really, neon eye shadow? For a 40 some year old? It asks your age in your profile!
We ask that the students all have their own mascara. Lipstick, foundation, and eyeshadow can be safely shared if done correctly. We do go through HUNDREDS of Qtips, tissues, and makeup sponges for every show. I'm sure donations of those items will also be appreciated.

At DD school the kids all had their own makeup bags, no sharing. Donations had to be new and unopened.

If you're looking for affordable makeup to donate, the Dollar Tree carries name brand makeup for just a dollar. Lots of eyeshadow colors, mascara, blush, lipstick, foundation, etc.

We get a list before each show of what everyone needs. Usually foundation, blush, lipstick and mascara.
Then a list of anything they want donated. They recommend that everyone wear eyeliner and the girls wear eyeshadow.
The kids are all taught to do his/her own make up unless they need something special, like for Shrek or Into the Woods.
Reality. Kids are all ages from 5 to high school. The older kids usually do the younger ones make up, even if they come with it done... and there is way too much sharing that goes on. So we throw away any lipsticks or mascara or eyeliner at the end of each show.
We also are always looking for inexpensive make up so that DD has something fresh to use for these occasions.
I would second Peamac for dollar tree make up. We also shop ELF. Between lots of things being on sale and cheap it is budget saver.
