I really need to sort my paper (have plenty of storage area) but just not sure how to sort into what categories. But, would like to really be able to group paper together so I can find something when I'm looking for it LOL. Any suggestions?

I've always stored my patterned paper by manufacturer and collection. It just makes sense to me to keep them together since they were designed to mix and match together.

I used to keep my paper sorted by color, stripes, polka dots, and light patterns (for stamping/backgrounds) but now that paper is two sided and I don't buy 200 sheet pads I sort by the company that made it.
So since I still have one sided paper I have two bins. Someday maybe I will only have one.

I use the 15 x 15 x5" (or so) artbin type storage tubs from Michaels. That way I can grab a tub when I am doing a particular page, or heading off to a crop with a particular set of photos.
I sort by scrapping topic or by season. For example I have a general FALL tub and a School tub, Also, Travel, Birthdays, Baby Boy, Baby Girl, Disney, etc. My ongoing family calendar project has a tub of its own with seasonal papers and embellishments and stamps &/or dies and right now it has BB "Calendar Girl" in it. I also have a tub for FAMILY, one for "Clocks & Gears".
Some topics (Christmas, winter, summer, little boys, sports) are just too big for one of these tubs, so those will either have a couple of tubs or go into a drawer. I have some empty tubs to pack up selected papers from those drawers when I need to be mobile.
Inside a tub, you would find new papers or packets on that topic with embellies tucked in, letter and other stickers, brads, whatever works with that topic. I use a lot of CTMH resealable bags, so when a paper pack has been opened, I can seal everything in there and pop it back into the tub. Scraps go back into the tub to be used when I am scrapping this topic again.
Once I stored by color or by manufacturer, but this seems to work better for me. Hope this helps!

How do you scrap? Do you think, "I need some Crate Paper!"
Or do you think, "Where is my girl paper?"
I sort by theme/category because that is how I scrap.
Some of my categories are:
boy
girl
school
Christmas/winter
summer (which also has 4th of July stuff)
Spring - including Easter, St Patty's Day
Most of my stuff is "Use anywhere" paper, though, and that is all together.

This is similar to my system. I also have a divided sort of file like box that I have sorted by color, but only if it's paper that is single color, like a tone on tone pattern. I use those sheets for layering.
My box is similar to this, but with a lid and handle. link

This is my system, too. My categories may differ, but it's the same idea. And my 'use anywhere' paper is in 2 containers. One is an accordion fold type thing-y and in it I have any patterned paper that I was smart enough to buy cardstock to match it at the time of purchase. The pp & matching cs each get their own little section. The other is a vertical storage and it's all just tossed in there. So when I sit down to do a page, if it's a theme, I start there. Then I move on to my pp packs. I don't separate them, so if I'm looking for a few sheets that will go together, they're in one place. Then it's the accordion thing and finally, my mishmosh in my vertical storage. Probably doesn't make sense to most people, but it's what works for me.

I sort by collection and brand and by theme. I have a couple of different themes that I keep all together in Iris boxes with embellishments. Other than that I keep paper together by collection. Once I use up most of a collection I will pull together any random pieces of paper I have and make a sort of kit out of it. Basically, I just put together any papers I have that match and that I might want to use together.

Most of my patterned paper come in themed pads. I tend to keep them together. I did purge paper from those pads I knew I would never use. I rarely buy sing sheets. All my solid cardstock are sorted my color.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RkAyjgsKGgI use a scraprack and so I followed Tiffany's idea. That's the link to one of the video. You don't have to use the scraprack but she has a very practical way of looking at things and getting things organized.

Since I scrap by themes primarily, that's how a lot of my paper (and themed embellishments, for that matter) are stored. Usually even if I buy a general paper like stripes or polka dots, I'm typically buying it with a particular project/theme/person in mind so that is what I put those papers in with. I don't usually buy anything without having a specific purpose for it first.
Besides having bins for all of the usual categories, I also have bins for DD, DH, etc. Any time I buy anything with them in mind, it goes into their bins so when I sit down with a bunch of generic pics of them I can grab those bins and usually find something that will work.

Solid cardstock by color PP by color Kits keep together and use them until they are gone... but I don't have many kits. The only other category I have is Christmas and snow. I did take out some valentine paper the other day but I don't know why.

I keep collections together until there's not much left. Most of my papers are from various manufacturers. I sort them by color. I also have paper sorted by theme or the project I am working on (holidays, heritage, recipe album, son's first year album). THEN there's the papers I bought for a specific page in mind. Those have their own spot. I paired way down on my papers a couple of years ago. They only take up about 1 1/2 cubes of an expedit bookshelf.

I sort my paper into categories:
Valentines/Love/Wedding Summer & Travel Fall/Halloween/Thanksgiving & Outdoor Camping/Hiking (I know this seems like a weird combo, but I find the color pallets are often similar) Christmas/Winter Non-seasonal bright & bold colors Non-seasonal pastel & muted colors
I'm not necessarily a themed scrapper, but filing it by the theme helps me to quickly find a specific paper line or color scheme. I do try to keep papers of the same collection together..at least initially.

I use a mix of approaches- some by categories eg Christmas and same manufacturer/collection where that makes sense, then by colour for the remainder. Unless there's a particular kit or collection I want to use, I mostly choose papers based on colour.

I went with colour then theme. And I base my two sided pattern paper on what colour or side I like best. I have my cardstock and pattern paper in iris bins and I was a little scared at first but oh my has it ever worked for me. Any paper pads I bought I kept in tack until only a few sheets were left.
I bought the iris case holder too so I have 12 categories maybe 13 because I'm pretty sure there is at least one sitting on top.
It works for me though. Really made a difference in finding something.

This is how I scrap and organize - by theme. Of course I have 5 times as much unorganized paper as I do organized. In fact the other day I 'found' a bin called 'Winter' and I have been cramming my winter stuff into a Christmas bin. I didn't even know I had a winter bin.
I have misc stripes together, plaids, etc, but I rarely go to those to pull paper. The only way I use those is if I pull paper for a specific project and add it to the project bin. When I worked on my teen years albums I had all kinds of paper and stuff that I wanted to use for those pictures in 2 bins. Then I knew when I scrapped them that whatever I wanted to use was in there.

My folders: Stampin Up( one for each color inc. scraps)
Then 3 folders for other papers: ex. Blue, Blue Patterns, Blue Scraps
I sort both 8.5 x 11 and 12x12 the same way. 12x12 are in Cropper Hoppers and 8.5 in these IRIS Desktop File Box
Stampin Up Designer papers are in the Cropper Hoppers with a card that notes the coordinating solids.

My organizational system is a hybrid that reflects my scrapping thought process:
All papers (i.e. cardstock, patterned, specialty) of frequently-used manufacturers are stored together & divided by collection Cardstock (except those matching frequently-used manufacturers' lines) is sorted by manufacturer (e.g. Bazzill, Core'dinations), then loosely by color (e.g. reds together) Patterned papers (except frequently-used manufacturers' lines) are divided by pattern (e.g. dots, stripes, plaids) & themes (e.g. boy, sports) Specialty papers (except frequently-used manufacturers) are segregated by type (e.g. shaped, vellum)
Best wishes finding a system that works for you & the way you scrap!
