I was on the decluttering thread and saw a link to a you tube vlog "How Jen Does It". It was actually neat to see how others clean. In am so unmotivated when it's cold and gloomy outside (which it is in western PA from about Oct.-April ). So watching this today actually motivated me to do a bit of cleaning. But not too much, as my husband was home not feeling well, so I didn't get much done. Anyways, you probably think I am crazy by now! But does anyone have a cleaning blog or you tube video that they recommend?

Trying one more time for the morning group! My 12 yr. old and I watched Jen's you tube blog last night, and she actually cleaned the kitchen after. It was motivating for us unmotivated cleaners! Any home organizing blogs would be great too!

I find watching shows about people that hoard are my best motivation to clean.

I find watching shows about people that hoard are my best motivation to clean. I have an opposite reaction. I feel really good about my house! maryland thanks for starting this thread. I'm okay at general dust, vacuum, cleaning, and pick up. I'm sure areas of my house would bother people because too much stuff is out, but my motto is good enough! I'm usually too tired too get to the deep cleaning and decluttering.

I follow Cleanmama on Instagram. Now, I don't actually DO any of the cleaning she suggests, but at least I feel better about myself that I think about it for a second before scrolling right past her post about the Daily Task! LOL I do think she's a really fast cleaner. Like WAY faster than I could ever be, even if I didn't have 3 young messy kids and a messy husband to fight against.

Thanks everyone! I am going to check out all the blogs/videos mentioned.
Yes, watching Jen clean tired me out too. I would love to be able to wipe down the house daily. I see that her boys help too. I need to do a better job at getting my 16 yr. old to do anything. Problem is, my husband does not support me at all (he agrees, but will never be the bad guy). My 12 yr. old is wonderful! She loves to help out. I hope she stays like that.
I agree with watching hoarders and being motivated to clean (and also to appreciate your house). I used to watch a show called "How Clean is Your House" but I don't think it's on anymore.

What I found interesting on Jen's video is that there is NOTHING on the floor so it is easy to vacuum and mop. We tend to have a pile of shoes here, clothes there, slippers by the bed etc.

Jenn is very minimalistic in her decorating and she is organized to within an inch of her life, so it is very easy and quick for her to do these quick cleaning sessions. Unfortunately, I like stuff, so it takes me longer to clean.
I am fairly organized, but my family is not. That makes cleaning a much bigger chore for me than it does her. I do enjoy watching her videos sometimes to just give me a jump start.

My daughters leave their stuff all over the house. I can never just have someone stop by. It's too embarrassing. It takes me longer to put away all the clutter than it does to deep clean. If their stuff was picked up every night, I could clean the house well in much less time.

He has everything from his childhood, his parents didn't throw anything away. So his study is wall to wall furniture and stuff everywhere. He never throws away an bills, even from 15 yrs. ago. So there is no place to file current papers, so it sits in piles in the study and the bedroom (kind of embarrassing when it's the first room when you walk into the house). We are very unorganized in our house. I am trying to organize my stuff, and it's going well so far! I just need to keep it up.

He has a file cabinet in the basement for "old" files. But it's packed full, and 2 large drawers in the study are packed full. So the current stuff sits in piles in the study. It's funny, because he thinks he is being so careful, but when there is no place to put current stuff, that gets lost and then he gets mad. I know he is very busy and has no free time, so I am happy to help him. By shredding the stuff from 10-18 yrs. ago! I don't know why he doesn't just scan it (pay the kids to do it) and throw away that old stuff. I am glad I am not the only one with this issue!

I like Sophia's youtube page on My Great Challenge . She has a lot of things in her home and she shows you how her kitchen/bedroom/bathroom is always getting dirty. She says "this is real life". Today I watched her video on decluttering her table linens.

I promise this will work. Give them each a laundry basket and have them walk through the house before bed and pick up everything that is theirs that is left around the house. You may have to be okay with them taking that basket to their bedrooms and just dumping out the contents there, but at least stuff won't be strewn about your house. You can go behind them after they're done and anything not picked up by them can be picked up by you and not given back for some determined amount of time. My daughter started doing this when she was four. Every single evening. Your daughters can definitely manage this!

Even if your house is orderly and you are minimalistic, it's still a HUGE chore to wipe everything down daily (including vacuuming and mopping floors) in a 7 bedroom/8 bathroom house! I Nanny for this family & they are great, but they expect me to do DEEP cleaning daily on top of watching their 19 mo old, and it's exhausting. Too much for me--I'm leaving. It's less physical to watch a baby or toddler than to wipe down and clean an entire house!

One of the peas mentioned this video blog on the decluttering thread, and I have been hooked since I saw it last week! My 12 yr. old is enjoying watching them too. And she is "pretending" to make her own cleaning video! It does motivate you!

maryland: Well, she does still nap for about 2 hours, but the mom (who is pregnant, so maybe it's the hormones speaking??) recently told me that while the baby is eating in her highchair (they don't even buckle her in!), I should have the kitchen all cleaned and begin to mop the floors! WHAT? ?? In my eyes, a child's safety, education and well-being comes first! Hire a damned housekeeper! Yeesh!!!

I watched Jen last night. I now feel like my house is seriously lacking in the cleanliness department. I am two weeks into a new job and struggling to adjust. My house is a wreck and I'm so tired all the time. (I don't do early mornings well) I really need to figure out how to adjust to this new schedule.

Lots of ideas here, and it's motivating. I just looked up this group, and clicked on "join group" but it looks like it's a closed group. All that was shown is members, but no other information. Maybe I didn't find the correct group?

Oh good! Yes, I spent a good hour reading back when I joined. I can't wait to strip my laundry, my store was out of washing powder so that is the last item I need.
