So I joined the Laundry, Love & Science group, and within a day unfollowed the group! I feel like the majority of the people there went a bit overboard with their cleaning, and everything suggested for routines was way overkill. There was a thread about mopping floors, and people were talking about how they mop daily, or several times a week! (as someone who does it quarterly, I find that silly.) I have wood floors, dry cleaning is always best for their longevity, so I spot clean in between mopping as needed.
I don't get the whole "stripping" deal, if the dirt is so deep that a normal wash doesn't get it out, and I can't see it, I don't care about it.
Am I in the minority with this opinion? My mother wasn't big on cleaning a lot so I get it from her.

My mother wasn't big on cleaning a lot so I get it from her. I'm not big on mopping so I don't do it that often and I'm fine with the frequency so those posts don't bother me. I try to do once a week because we have an elderly dog that can't control his pooping any more and I don't think spot cleaning is enough. I also figure most of those people are kind of lying. If they say they mop every day, most probably mean every few days. If they say a week, they mean every other week. I am interested in stripping laundry specifically for our towels and workout clothes because they can both get stinky pretty quick. Actually our towels don't even bother me but my DH has a supernose and claims they smell like mold within a couple of months of buying new. I have bleached and used vinegar and he still complains. If stripping takes care of that for him and I'm not buying new towels every few months, I will do it. So while they may go overboard for me, I did glean a few nuggets so far. My mom wasn't big on cleaning either so I feel like I am always learning something with regards to home keeping that is completely obvious to others.

What I found interesting on Jen's video is that there is NOTHING on the floor so it is easy to vacuum and mop. We tend to have a pile of shoes here, clothes there, slippers by the bed etc. I've been decluttering over the last year and have found it definitely improves my cleaning speed - lots less to dust and move around.

I am interested in stripping laundry Didn't even realise there was such a thing. but I don't usually have too much problem, especially since getting a new machine last year. The best thing is hanging laundry outside in the sun - love the way towels smell after that.

I worry about it being too humid for thick towels to dry fast enough outside. Plus I grew up with line dried laundry... and I don't care for it! Too scratchy. Lined dried sheets are awesome, everything else goes in the dryer!

Thanks for the Jen recommendation. I've been inspired to do some deep cleaning. We've lived in this house for six years and some of the things Jen does weekly haven't been done here since before we moved in! Dusting the tops of door frames and sanitizing the jetted tub for example. She uses hot water and denture tabs!

I really like the tips (didn't get to spend much time as we were out of town and I just checked in a couple of times). But they were so active that I couldn't find any of my "friends" facebook posts because it was all the laundry group. I wish there was a way to seperate that group from my facebook friends. That way I could spend time on that site when I can, but when I just want to see what my facebook friends are doing, I don't have to see the laundry group mixed in. Does that even make sense? I really did enjoy reading the laundry posts. I have never heard of stripping laundry. I better google it! When it was mentioned in one of the posts, I thought they meant stripping as in "stripping the bed" or taking off the sheets to wash.

I had the same problem with a sewing group clogging up my FB feed. Just unfollow the group but stay friends, that way their posts won't appear on your timeline, but you can have access whenever you click on the group:)

How do you do that? I clicked on "unfollow" but I didn't do anything more. I will try to look up the group and see if their posts are still there.

This is how from moble: click the groups page so you're on it. Click on the 3 dots that say "more" kinda near the top right. Click "view group info" Scroll down a little and you will see "edit notifications" click that. Then you can adjust it to: get all notifications, get highlights, turn off. ETA: I believe if you're on non moble device it's pretty much the same way.

I just watched a couple of Jen's videos. It's fascinating. I like my kitchen sink cleaned at night, I wipe down the counter and turn the dishwasher on. That's it.
I guess if you like or feel compelled to do all that work, then great. I hate cleaning and there seems to be way too much going on at my house. I'm rarely home alone.
