I'm due next month with number 3 and we may or may not be done having kids after this one. But we are considering doing the cord blood banking this time around. I have a friend that works for Cord Blood Registry so I get the friend's and family discount, but it is still pricey. I have been doing all kinds of research, but I'm wondering if anyone has any expereince with it.
Thanks!

DS is almost 8, so it's been awhile since we made this decision. We decided to donate the cord blood, because it would most likely help someone in the near term. That was more important to us than the remote chance that our son might need it some day (and by then, would the banking company still be around? Would it actually help him?) Here is information about cord blood donation.

We did in November with our newborn. It can help him or us and his sister possibly. We had the means to do it this baby so we decided to.

I work in a pediatric oncology department. Our doctors don't think it's a good investment of money. If one child needs stem cells it is very rare that they would be a match, and if they ARE a match you can use cells harvested from that child.

We could never afford to even consider banking. For one of my kids we were able to do delayed cord clamping (so he got the full infusion of blood from the placenta) and he didn't have any of the problems that his sister and brother did just after birth (he was a strong nurser, good sleeper, and had zero jaundice issues, etc). My gut feeling is that letting the baby have that extra blood is probably the best use of it in the long run.

My friend banked for her 3 and 5 year old children. The doctor recommended it because of their unique health situation. The only thing I can suggest is making sure the delivering doctor and staff know ahead of time and are educated on the process.
