Is it safe to get a pedicure while pregnant? I don't get them very often (maybe 4 times in my life). I am 32 weeks right now and want to get one in a couple of weeks before my baby showers because I plan to wear a skirt and sandals. Googling gave me a million different answers so I thought I would ask the all-knowing peas lol

My ob-gyn always told me it was fine. You can always ask them to skip the massage part if you are concerned about that triggering labor. Congratulations!

Yes it's safe. What do you think might be risky?

I'm a regular pedicure client and never changed my routines while I was pregnant. I had a pedicure at 39 weeks because I wanted beautiful toes to look at while I was pushing!

I never got around to it while pregnant but I'd avoid the massage so no preterm labor occurs. Other than that, enjoy!

I had a pedicure a few weeks before my last one. I just didn't get the leg massage (which I hate anyway).

There is no reason to avoid the massage- the whole labour induction stems primarily from old reflexology beliefs and there is no clinical evidence that support these claims. Therapists tend to perpetuate this myth because people come in asking about it, and it's a cya move. Honestly, if I could induce labor by rubbing ankles, I would be hella rich .

I can't imagine a reason to avoid them.

The massage would have to be firm and on very specific spots to even have the possibility of inducing labour.

I'm 36 weeks and have one scheduled for Tuesday. I can't wait! The last one I got was right after Christmas. This is my 3rd child and I had them more frequently with the other two pregnancies and never had any problems, I just didn't have as much time this time around to get them.

I got them all throughout my pregnancies.
I wouldn't avoid the massage. But, I mean, I wouldn't pay for a pedicure if I wasn't going to get a massage. That's the whole reason I get a pedicure.

Thanks ladies! I'm so looking forward to a little pampering.

I had them once a week with #2. It was the only thing that made my poor swollen sausage feet feel better.
I don't know why it would be a problem, assuming everything was sanitary. But back then tuna and coffee were the dramatic "I can't believe you're doing that!" worries, so things have probably changed!
I say enjoy!

In my last trimester, I got them every two weeks and paid for extra massage. It was bliss! Never had any issues.

It's fine. The only thing I worried about with pedicures and pregnancy was the leg massage part. I always read about how you shouldn't massage your legs while pregnant because of he risk of blood clots. So I just had them skip that part and all was well. If ever there is a time to pamper your feet its while you are pregnant!
