What do you use to clean your oven? I have Easy Off fume free and I have to wear a mask because the fumes are so strong. And I have to spray it over and over because the "crap" in the oven just doesn't come off. I have read about baking soda and water, but can't imagine it working when the strong chemicals don't.
Once it's finally clean (after one to two bottles of Easy Off) I have to rinse it over and over to get rid of the fumes. Doing it today because it's supposed to be warmer.
I admit my oven gets very dirty because I only clean the oven a few times a year. It's such a process, so I don't do it often!

Mine is self-cleaning, so yeah... never have to use Easy Off or scrub.

Easy off here too. Mine is self cleaning too but have read bad things about what that level of heat can do to the electronics in the panel, and it just makes me nervous to have a metal box heating up to 900 degrees for a long period of time in my house. The few times I have been around them, self cleaning has its own smell too.
Easy off is nasty, but it does the job pretty fast ime. I use old towels to wipe it out and that goes a lot faster than paper towels. Magic eraser is also great on stubborn spots and the glass.
I do it a couple times a year and am always amazed at how dirty it is, since I don't think I drip that much. Just the oils and such of cooking I guess.
Last week though... I dumped a tray of bacon grease in the bottom of the oven when trying to shuffle around a cookie sheet while doing some bulk cooking of bacon to freeze. What a disaster. Smoke, fire alarms, fans in the windows, just a mess. Cleaned it out the next day, ugh.

My oven has been broken forike three years.
I don't miss it, so getting it fixed is never a priority.

Yeah I don't like it either. However I have found a cleaner here which basically doesn't smell and spray it on at night before I go to bed. In the morning, everything usually comes off pretty easily.

I don't like to use any chemicals so I use a slurry of baking soda instead. I smear on the crud, wait about an hour, go back and wipe it off. works every time. I rarely use the self clean feature because I don't like it running that high for that long. it never gets that dirty so self clean isn't necessary most of the time. just the baking soda slurry.

But I'm curious as to how the oven gets so dirty that the gunk won't come off. I use mine at least 4 times a week and do not have a lot of dirt. I do use a cookie sheet if what I'm cooking or baking might spill and also wipe up any spills or grease as soon as I notice it.

I won't use the self-cleaning function like AN, I'm worried it will kill itself) and I pretty much never clean my oven on the inside because it doesn't get dirty. Very rarely, it needs a wipe down. Maybe you need to line things with foil?

I push the button that says "CLEAN" That would be me as well. I've done my time with Easy Off in my younger years. You couldn't pay me enough to manually clean an oven... ever again.

She cooks chicken thighs in the oven and doesn't cover them so they can get crisp. So I have been making the chicken like she does and it splatters all over the oven! I guess I should put cooking sheets in the oven to "protect" the bottom, but the top still gets messy. That's my "excuse" for my messy oven. Nothing else seems to do the damage that the chicken I make does! But if I can get it clean this time, I may have to give up my favorite chicken. It's not worth this mess! I just told my husband that if he will clean it for me, that can be my birthday, Mother's Day and Christmas gift and he doesn't have to buy cards or gifts!

FYI- foil can melt to the bottom of stoves. Mine came with a warning NOT to use foil on the bottom. Not sure about the oven trays.

What is the name of the cleaner? It's called 'Mr Muscle Non-Caustic.' It's available in NZ and Australia - not sure about the US.

Not sure about the oven trays. that, and it can cause your heating elements to burn out faster by reflecting their heat back up at them more than the bottom of the oven alone does. my mom burned thru 3 heating elements before she mentioned it to an appliance person when they were shopping for a new oven, and he looked at her like he was horrified lol.
just put the foil on the rack below the one you're cooking on, if you're going to do it.

I had to go self cleaning because I am allergic to the oven cleaners. even the fume free. that isn't really fume free.

I've never had an electric stove, thanks for this info! I don't actually have foil IN my oven, but if I'm making something that might bubble over, I put foil on a baking sheet and put the dish on that. Also, I guess I never make anything in the oven that might send grease flying, so the part about the chicken makes more sense as to why there might be a big mess to clean.

Seriously I would give anything to not have to clean the oven. It's a chore I detest and I try to put a baking sheet under anything messy, but it still seems like my oven gets gross at times. But I'm with you, maryland. I would rather have someone clean my oven than give me a gift. I use the easy off because I don't like the idea of the self-cleaning function n on my oven either.

I'm with you! I don't bother with self clean function because all of the racks and rack tracks need to be removed for that. Last week I cleaned my oven with the Dawn/vinegar solution and baking soda. It didn't work very well. I'm going to pick up the Easy Off made for self-cleaning ovens. I used to use it years ago and it worked fine. I put the racks in a large heavy duty garbage bag and spray them with the oven cleaner, let them sit for a couple of hours, then rinse. No matter what, it's a dirty job.

I have a self cleaning oven but I hate the atmosphere that results in the house while it is working Mine seriously needs to be cleaned but I'm just avoiding it ... maybe I'll get some of the stuff you guys are talking about ... or not ... I'm holding out hope that my oven will die so that I can replace it Right now a whole lot of smoke comes out of my oven every time I open the door because I really need to clean it

I'm going to pick up the Easy Off made for self-cleaning ovens. Didn't know there was such an animal, thanks for the info! After "self-cleaning" my last oven to death (ruined the electrical panel which cost as much to replace as buying a new oven), I refuse to use the self-cleaning function.

Honestly, running the self cleaning cycle is so fabulous. If toilets had one I'd be a happy camper, that's my least favorite chore
