I'm not there yet, but a friend was talking about the cost and whether or not it's worth it. She's trying to get her ex to split the cost, since that wasn't listed in their agreement. I don't think I want my son driving any sooner than necessary. I worry enough!

In the $400-$450 range in Austin, TX. I wasn't excited to spend the money but I'm glad we went this route vs parent taught. For us, it was worth it and we'll do it again when the next one starts driving.

We paid over $500 a couple years ago and I hear it is closer to $600 now - Eastern Washington state.
I will add that we have a company called 911 Driving that is a chain. It is all active and retired police officers that teach it. I thought it was better than what my son had 4 years before that.

Idaho here. Through the school, driver's ed is $150, but private is $400. It is a law here to have driver's ed. if kids get license before they are 17, which most kids do. Teens can get permits at 14-1/2 but have to have driver's ed. and 6 months of parent-supervised drive time (50 hours during that time) before they can get their license. At 17, they can apply and get a license without driver's ed. provided they pass all the tests.

Suburban Chicago -- it's part of DS's school curriculum and a requirement for graduation. He has to have a Driver's Ed credit to graduate. He never has to take his driver's test for the license but does have to take the classroom course. The classroom course is free. The behind the wheel portion is optional, as it's not part of the graduation requirement. We paid $250 for him to do that. He did so well in behind the wheel portion that he does not have to take the behind-the-wheel portion of his driver's test when he becomes eligible for his license. He's eligible for his license 9 months after getting his permit. He's eligible in 6 DAYS!!!!

We are about to sign Thing 2 up to do it over the summer, and Katy Driving School says $435 She's doing the SafeWay Driving across from Katy High School. The lessons are online and then she will do the actual driving at the center. My son did the one off of Mason and Kingsland and I think it was around $400.

We have to have a minimum of 6 hours behind the wheel for that portion of driver's ed here in Southern CA. The rest, DH has taught both kids mainly with many hours of driving all over. I think it was the $300-$350 range. More expensive for DS now than DD 3 years ago since we went with a different school. Three was also the online portion but that was pretty inexpensive since it was through Groupon (many area kids used it).
DS gets his licence in May and today, I let him drive to school (with me) for the first time. I'm not working right now, so this was his first opportunity to do that. He loved it!

In CA, if you get a license under 18, you need to do 30 hrs classroom + 6 hours behind the wheel lessons. Classroom can be as cheap as $20 through online schools, but BTW is going to be at least $300.
Some schools negotiate packages for extracurricular options, but the discount isn't very much.

I'm in Indianapolis, it's $355 for 30 hours of classroom plus 6 hours behind the wheel. Last year, I only paid $285 for my ds, though, because they were running some kind of special.

Noethern Colorado, it is $400. If they wait until 15 1/2 it drops significantly because they don't have to do the classroom portion, buy they still have yo pay for the 6 hours drive time.

It was like $450. That was 32 hours of in person class time and the behind the wheel parts. Well worth it!

Between $300-500. This is private instruction. School based instruction went the way of the dodo bird in the late 80's.

Here the 20 hours in class and 15 hour in road from Young Drivers is $1400!
It was still about $900 when I was 16. I never took it because I didn't have enough money (though looking back now it really seems like something my parents should have helped me pay for! I can't imagine making my daughter pay, lol.)

About $400 which is why we went the parent-taught approach with my kids. We paid $75 for the parent-taught. I would totally go that route again, but luckily I don't have to, as my youngest is 18.

The classroom was in their office (we used Chillicothe but Circleville I'm sure is closer for you); I believe we went two nights per week for just a few weeks, maybe? For the road driving, the instructor picked her up at the house (will do from school as well). It was individual instruction, although there were maybe 1 or 2 times there was one more person in the car during the pickup/dropoff process (which I was fine with, but some might bristle at the thought, idk). Good luck!
