I can't remember when the Cropadile came out, but I remember the sighs of relief were heard worldwide, because there would be no need for the loud hammering while setting eyelets on a scrapbook layout. I'd have to say it's been at least 7-8 years though, right??! Ok, so I went to a weekend crop recently, and there was a very sweet girl who still uses her Making Memories hammer and pad kit for setting her eyelets. And yes, she uses eyelets on nearly every single page. My BFF who was with me, came onto the scrapbooking scene long after the hammering method, and she about DIED. Could not believe this is the way it used to be done, and she could not believe the girl wouldn't have a Cropadile, considering she had a plethora of scrapbooking gadgets and supplies on her table.
Anyway, every time that hammer came out I couldn't help but chuckle, while my friend about went through the roof from the noise level. At one point I did try and tell the poor girl that there was a new tool on the market for setting eyelets, and she kind of got offended, as if I was mocking her use of eyelets. I just let it go, because it wasn't bothering me. Again, I couldn't help but laugh.
So this begs the question...do any of YOU still use the hammer (if you still use eyelets, that is)?

I don't use eyelets very often--although I prob own about a million of them...
I usually use my Crop-o-dile, or its bigger cousin which is supposed to reach anywhere on a 12 x 12 page. And yes, I own both of these tools.
But occasionally I am using an eyelet that is not the perfect size for these tools, and then I pull out my hammer. Not at a crop, though. All the noise and table vibration would not be a crowd pleaser, I am thinking...
Thanks for the trip down memory lane! Might need to pull out those eyelets--and their first cousins the brads--for a switch up in scrappy style.

Got rid of my hammer when I got my crop-o-dile. Funny part is that I think I used my hammer more then the crop-o-dile. I guess it helped me relieve stress

I tried the Crop-o-dile and hated it.
I have the old fashioned spring setter for eyelets. It's noisy, so I warn DH if I am using it. I don't take it to crops.

I never did use eyelets when the hammer was the only option. I bought a Silent Setter when it was on sale for $5 about a decade or so ago. I mainly only use eyelets on cards. I scrap at night, so using a hammer would never fly in my home.

That's so funny. If I were to use an eyelet now I would have to use my old hammer because I don't have a cropadile. Haven't used an eyelet in years so I don't see myself digging the hammer out any time soon.

Before Crop O Dile, I used (and still have) the Silent Setter. I've never used the hammer method.

I do still use the ancient method to set an eyelet, but I rarely use eyelets and only at home. My family doesn't bat an eye. I would never do that at a crop.

ha! I still use my hammer. I have the crop-a-dile and before that, every other kind of setter--spring loaded, pneumatic, etc. but I still like using the old fashion hammer and setter.

Love my Silent Setter! I sprinkle eyelets on a few layouts here and there still, it works like a charm

Haven't used eyelets in years but may start again. I don't have a Crop-o-Dile so yes I will use the hammer and pad from MM. Great stress reliever. Great story!!!!

I have the hammer which I still use for eyelets.....but I also use my CAD.....
When I need an eyelet in the centre of my page, the CAD doesn't reach.
My girlfriend has the silent setter - it is far quicker with a hammer to set an eyelet

I've not used eyelets for scrapbooking in years but I have used them for a few crafty projects and I used the crop o dile.
I still have all my old MM eyelet kits/setters though & just can't get rid of them...I loved MM & miss that company.

Yes, I adored my MM sets and hung onto them in their tins until just a year or two ago when I was purging and I split them up. The one MM piece I have misplaced and could cry about is the bone folder. I know you can still buy them, but they are NOT the same quality that the MM one was.

when I use eyelets - mostly for tags I do use a hammer, a metal setter I bought from Harbor Freight and a little cutting mat from Club Scrap
I never saw the need to get another gadget when the hammer works so well

MM hammer all the way. I use it more for making holes in all kinds of things other than eyelets. In fact, I just bought a new MM set at yard sale for $6 because my setter was flattening out on the hammer end and losing sharpness on the punch end. I use that little hammer and the pricker thing for lots of stuff non-scrapbook related.
I disliked the Cropadile so into the yard sale box it went.

I went to a crop last week and someone new brought out that spring setter and must have punched a gazillion holes with it. I almost went through the roof but I held back. I put in my ear plugs. It was as bad as a hammer and disturbed me emotionally. I almost want to start carrying my cropadile to offer it to her if she comes again. I don't use eyelets anymore but I think I still have some and my hammer.

I have used the diligent setter for years. Crop a dile is tooooooo big and bulky!

I rarely use eyelets but when I do, I use my hammer. It's just too satisfying to smash those things down

I only have a hammer so on the rare occasions that I still use them it's the old fashioned way for me.

I do have to agree that doing a bunch at a crop is annoying. I would wait until I got home.

I have used the diligent setter for years. Crop a dile is tooooooo big and bulky! It really is. I bought the case for it, so really a pain. Every time I want to set an eyelet, I would look at it in my closet, wince and then groan as I pulled it out. A few months ago I finally bought a Kallax shelf and one of my baskets holds my Crop-a-Dile, it's case & my eyelets. I still have to pull it out, but it's easier not dealing w/the case (I keep it in there for when I want to take it to a crop) and I use it right there on the Kallax, so I'm not lugging it around. Makes it a little less aggravating, lol.

I use the CAD, but I still have my hammer and setter in case I need a bigger reach than the CAD has (I have the original CAD).
I use eyelets pretty often (I'm primarily a cardmaker), but I can't remember the last time I reached for the hammer.

I still use the Making Memories kit! I also use the Cropodile. But sometimes I want eyelets too far in on the page, and so I get out my hammer sometimes old school is the way to go!

Haven't used them in ages, but I was thinking I should use some of those things up. I would use my Big Bite if I were to pull them out. However, I do still have my MM hammer.
