My mom had this happen and it freaked her out. We have had it happen also. Caller ID shows my name and my number calling my house number. How does this work or happen? TIA

It's happened to me several times- figured it was a scammer or telemarketer beating the system somehow.

Some kind of computer spoofing that allows for the outgoing number to reflect the one it is calling. I looked it up one time and didn't completely understand the process, but my son walked by and said that I should just consider it bad juju voodoo and never to answer. So I don't.

It's just telemarketing spoofing. It makes you more likely t answer. I've watched way too many horror movies so it always gives me the creeps.
He's calling... From inside the house....

It was particularly upsetting to my mom since my dad passed away in Jan. and she never had this happen with the phone.

There was an article in our newspaper about this and it said it is a type of scam and to never answer. I've had a few of those calls.

It's happened to me several times- figured it was a scammer or telemarketer beating the system somehow. It's not really beating the system. Many (most?) large scale phone systems allow you to configure what your outbound caller id will display, it's just that most reasonable folks configure it to their actual phone number.

This happened on my mom's phone the day of my dad's funeral. Their phone number, his name and the time was the exact time his casket was lowered into the grave. We had trouble with the funeral home and cemetery, so DH and my sister stayed to make sure everything went ok and she took pictures.
When we read back the caller ID, she said "wait a minute, that is the time they buried Daddy". She checked the time on the pictures and they matched.
As long as I can remember, my family calls to let someone know they made it home and everything is ok. We do this when traveling and locally when driving in bad weather or late at night.
My mother took the call as a signal that Daddy is in heaven and ok. She has not deleted it and refers to it as "Daddy's call". She was comforted so much by that I did not tell her it was probably a spoof. It has not happened since and pray that it does not.
