Don't wait too long. My sister had to have 3 transfusions to have enough blood for a hysterectomy. Call, and if the bleeding stops, get to gyn next week. Yes this was me exactly. I waited too long. A phone call is a good idea.

If it's slowed down, then I would wait until Monday to call. If it ramps up again (those things only happen over holidays, am I right?) I would call or go in. Regardless, I'd make an appointment for an early appointment next week. You should get checked out and make sure there isn't a polyp or something else. Most everything is non-serious so don't freak out.

I had that a few years ago- the first time it lasted about a week. I finally it to stop by taking ibuprofen or acetaminophen (i forget which one). Pineapple juice helped too. I had it like three months in a row before it went back to normalish. Now I'm in the one-or-two-periods-a-year club, thank goodness.

I would at least call. I don't have experience with heavy periods but I do have a lot of experience with anemia and blood transfusions. The dizzy symptom is very concerning to me. If I feel dizzy, I KNOW I need a transfusion. The fatigue is probably also due low blood levels as well although hormones could also be a factor. I know for myself, my doctors do NOT recommend ibuprofen or NSAIDS because it does something to your platelets (the part of your blood that clots). If I remember correctly, it makes them "slippery" so they don't stick together. Again, my anemia is not caused by low iron or heavy periods so it may vary for you.

What is the advantage of not calling? You feel bad enough to post here. CALL. I had periods like that during peri-menopause. I had to take iron supplements. I love the phrase "crime scene" periods. That's what mine were like. I knew I had fibroids. Thankfully I hit menopause! I love the first sentence. OP you posted to the group so call. What is the harm in that? then you know.

i had this when I was about 44?? It scared me to death but it did taper off. I did go to see the doctor who told me it wasn't perimenopause. She said that I was too young. Wrong. It was perimenopause. It went on for a year along with a monthly migraine. I hit menopause at 48 I still get hot flashes three years later. I think you should go to the doctor and get checkout. It's most likely perimenopause but it's worth a look.

unfortunately, heavy bleeding can also indicate uterine cancer. I had fibroids too but when the bleeding got too much the biopsy showed cancer. I was so lucky that they got my uterus out and I have no cancer any more. That's why i said it can be abnormal. I am so grateful for a wonderful surgeon and team!

The same thing happened to me this past Fourth of July, and gosh it was awful. I called the gyno on call, and he prescribed a pill that stops the bleeding, it was pricey but it worked thank goodness. I had to go in for an appointment, and had to have a ultrasound. I had a cyst that no one knew was there, and after taking some hormone pill to hopefully get rid of it, it didn't work....ended up having laser surgery to remove the cyst, ovary, and Fallopian tube. They also found tons of endometriosis, but thankfully all cancer biopsies were negative. Hang in there, and I hope you can get in to see the gyno soon.

The start of menopause sucks big time. With that, it is time for a thorough work up. This is what happened to me at about that age. It was the end of my periods. Soon you'll be skipping months and eventually it'll end.

I've had that exact situation happen to me before down to the last detail. My GYN told me to go to the ER and I left pissed off and a thousand bucks poorer for it. They did an ultrasound and that was it. They didn't do a damn thing for me.
I wouldn't go. I would just wait it out.
I would go get some iron tablets though. Those help me when I have never ending annoying periods.
