Has surprised us in Yorkshire with a snowstorm. Well I never! I planned to do some gardening today. Oh well.

I saw this on the UK news earlier- Stay safe all the UK peas under amber alert. Regarding your non-gardening, OP, commiserations on that. Here on the opposite side of the world we have had an early snowfall on the Matroosberg mountains. Here in town that makes for cold winds.
I have fond memories of York. My husband is a train nut and we spent 2 days at the NRM.

Snow anniebygaslight! Shame about the gardening - you'll have to find something else to do today We haven't had any snow the entire winter but this storm has certainly brought us enough wind and rain for a while!!

The NE area of the UK seems to be missing the worst of this storm, we don't have any weather warnings this time. It's wet and windy but nothing like other places are getting - and no reports of unexpected snow up to now either up to now. I can hear the sea from here so it's rough but nothing like other parts of the coast......the Channel and the coast of Kent seem to be getting a real battering. Lots of storm damage in the South of England particularly so hope it won't be long before the worst of it is over for those areas.

Not too bad here in Leeds, zero wind and a little drizzle. What crazy weather we've had these last few months.

The south seems to have taken a battering...was awake most of the night because it was so loud! Off to check our beehives are still upright, poor things.

The south seems to have taken a battering...was awake most of the night because it was so loud! Same here, it was pretty wild! We've got blue skies now and it's relatively calm overall, but we're still getting some fierce gusts quite often. No visible damaged in our immediate vicinity, but it has knocked out our cable and internet which is most distressing!

Yep, really loud last night. The wind was banging and rattling my letter box. The trees around us were really bowing over. I expect we may of lost a few in the copse over the road. We had rain and hail, but no snow the upside is the brilliant sunshine today.

Stay warm!

The noise of the storm here kept me awake all night, plus my youngest cat kept yowling as he was scared! It's still very windy here and I have the heating on for the first time in ages.

Stay warm! Apologies for not correcting myself (not you, you are correct ) right away. I am indeed in Jo'burg, we had a little semi-work trip. The only time I ever had enough Jo'burg snow to play in was the spring snowfall in the early 80's. I was on study break at Wits and saw it from the windows of the library. I participated in snow fights and snowpeople building in hopelessly inadequate shoes

Would have been 4 or 5 cm!
