It's so annoying. Macy's does that too. They will price match their online prices in-store, but you have to know the price is better online. I bought a sweater that was $29.99 online and $64.99 in the store.
They do it to maximize revenue. Most people shopping in person aren't going to bother to comparison shop with the same store online.

Often the online store and the brick and mortar store are completely different parts of the company. They have totally separate inventory and pricing systems.
That doesn't mean they can't sync the two, it just means they often don't.

Lot of times too, the website is run by a different group than the B&M stores. That is why you can't return things bought on-line to the store in some cases.

I came upon that at Walmart
I looked online for the best price on an item. And Walmart had it at 79$ so I go to the store and poof it's $99. I asked the sales guy if he could match it he said no. So I showed him that I could buy it online and get free same day in store delivery for the item but he still said no. I mean I gotta go online to not get over charged and get the same damn exact box I'm holding in my hands ( only one they had ) I was like WTF
So I did same day pick up at target simply because the stupidity if it pissed me off and I refused to buy it at Walmart after that.

It seems like business pushes for sales more online than in their store. I guess it may have to do with how popular online purchasing has gotten. Maybe it's easier too for online transactions to happen over lines at the checkout and saves on labor.
But the boxes, packing and labor may balance out the cons of both.
