If someone gave you a bed. And not just a mattress, but the whole think. Headboard, frame, boxsprings, mattress, sheets & comforter. What would be an appropriate thank you gift? We tried many times asking if we could pay for it and they said no. It was offer it to someone or take it to the Salvation Army, so we graciously accepted... These are neighbors who we are not necessarily friendly with, so it was a surprise they offered it to us. I fully plan on writing a Thank you note, as well as my DS will, who will be using the bed, but that feels inadequate. Any ideas? (They are a couple in their mid to late 50's).

Send over a plate of cookies with the thank you note.

Don't overthink it.
I agree with Mom.... simple thank you. Have your son take the cookies over and also thank them in person.

A thank you note is enough. I have an extra bed now and it would be really great to donate to a neighbor than find a way to get it to a donation place. Most donation places around here don't take used mattresses anyway, so the alternative is to take it to the dump and pay. So you really did do them a favor. Send a note and graciously accept it.

Thanks for your ideas. I think I was overthinking it! I had obviously thought of a plate of cookies, but wasn't sure if it was enough. So I will say, it's enough!

I think that they probably got a lot of satisfaction and happiness being able to give it to someone that they know. Especially if they know you can use it and really appreciate it. I think a thank you note will convey that and really is probably all That is needed. But I also think a token gift card (50.00) to a restaurant, garden center, or some other place like that would be a nice gesture.
ETA All right maybe 50.00 is excessive so I will rescind my answer...hahaha.

Cookies and a note is enough. compeateropeator dinner gift card is very sweet too, if you can swing it. And depending on other factors could be a real treat! It's so hard to tell when people are in their fifties what stage of life they're loving. We've got teens in high school, lifestyle of what used to be 40 year olds, as do many friends. But others are planning imminent retirement, downsizing, etc.

I would have offered to pay for it one time, offered profuse thanks when they declined and moved on. I don't understand why we constantly believe we need to give a gift to anyone who does something nice. Instead, why don't we just do something nice the next time we are able. It seems more in the spirit. I think thank you notes, cookies and gift cards are totally unnecessary in this situation, and kind of rob them of the joy of giving.

Thank you notes are ALWAYS a good thing. Always. A thank you note lets the giver know that the gift was truly appreciated. The joy of giving is enhanced, not lessened, by feeling appreciated.

I always think a bottle of wine is the answer to these questions A thank you note and a medium priced bottle would be what I would give

I love to be able to give things usable to people I know, I never want anything in return.

Recently I gave a bed, nightstand and dresser to a college aged girl and she sent back the sweetest note. I was on cloud 9. The note was perfect - I didn't want or need anything else. Just doing the deed was good enough but the note was an awesome touch!

I'd give a thank you note and an outdoor potted flower/plant.
