I'll ask on DisBoards, but I find the posters here are a little more down to earth. I am pretty good at this Disney stuff, but there isn't a lot of information out there from the perspective of the parent of a child singing in Candlelight Processional in Epcot.
I don't have many details, but I'm trying to determine what questions I need to ask at the parent meeting. This will be my best opportunity to ask questions with all of the right people in the room, though I imagine they won't have all of my answers yet.
If your child has done this, please tell me about the experience.
Whether your child has done it or not, what questions would you ask? This is my list so far:
* What night do they sing? * Which performance(s)? * For parents traveling, do we have to stay with the group, particularly on the CP night? * Can we travel in early/leave late?
I know these things will be covered:
* They'll give us pertinent details without me asking - hotel, dining, schedule, logistics. * I know the cost and what is covered already: hotel, dining, travel, park hopper tickets.
Can I tell you how freakin' excited I am about this? There is no way DD or I will miss this! We were not planning a Christmas trip this year - we have a big summer trips planned for both this year and next year. We saw CP on Christmas Day in 2010 with Edward James Olmos as the narrator. It was beautiful, and I have wanted to go back since. We most recently went to Disney World last May and weren't planning to go again until DD turns 16 in 2018, at which time she will be old enough to do one of the tours that goes into the Utilidors under the MK.

My son has had the honor of singing with the Candlelight Processional twice in the last 3 years. His high school music department goes every other year. I'll try to answer your questions based on my experience.
* What night do they sing? The night they sing is up to Disney. The group has to apply to sing and submit an audition video. The include the requested dates, and Disney will assign them which day they will be singing.
* Which performance(s)? This again is up to Disney based on the audition and other groups that may be performing as well. The first year my son went, his group performed at the 5:30 and the 6:30 (or something like that) This last time, they only performed at the earlier time. They almost didn't get to perform at all because the audition video was not a very good quality. Fortunately Disney let them resubmit a better one and they were good to go.
* For parents traveling, do we have to stay with the group, particularly on the CP night? We did not travel down with my son the first year and this past year we went down on our own. We weren't required to be with them. The performers have to meet backstage a couple of hours before the performance and only they and the chaperones are allowed backstage. This will also depend on the group your daughter will be performing with.
* Can we travel in early/leave late? You should be able to arrive at the park at any time that is convenient for you. Just remember that the park will fill up and they won't allow others to enter even if they have dining reservations.
I would highly suggest that once you know the date and time of the performance that you book a Candlelight Dining Reservation. This is the only way you can be guaranteed to get a seat at the show. They seat the people with the Candlelight Dining package first, and they all other seats are based on availability.
Hope that helps some! I can't wait to do it again in 2 years!

Not a child, but yes, several times with our community choir. They usually don't make the decisions on who sings when until September or so, after they've made their selections. You will either sing in the early show (5:00) or the two late shows (6:45 and 8:15). They allow, I think 1 chaperon per 5 students. If you are a chaperon, you will either be backstage or in the "tents" guarding purses and stuff. You are allowed to go into the park for the remainder of the evening, if your group desires, or board the bus back. I have seen with out of state groups, where they can come into the park earlier in the day and they are asked to meet up with the cast member at a certain time at the gate (which is next to Italy, across from the theatre.) Depending on your showtime, you'll be asked to be at the "tents" either 2:00 or 3:00. That allows for a light lunch (very light, bagged sandwiches and chips and Powerade. Definitely not your fancy Disney fare.), and then a run through with the director for the evening. Then you get robes, are lined up (by height/part) and you are off. I'm sure there are all kinds of packages that WDW has for groups, and your director will be in touch to work out a deal. A former client of mine used to do exactly this, and things like band competitions, etc. I love Candlelight, it's one of my highlights for the year.
