I'm looking for someone to help me wrangle my social media. Yes, I CAN do it, I just don't love it so it's something I'm willing to hire out. have you ever hired a social media person? Know any? I just don't know where to start! I saw some sites say that you'd pay up to $250/hr for one. Never going to happen. lol.

My daughter is a communications and marketing major. She is doing an internship this semester with a PR company that also organizes craft fairs. She has been writing social media plans and press releases for them. Do you have specific questions? I'm sure she would be happy to talk to you about it. If you're open to a long distance situation, she could probably also help you out for way less than $250/hour.

Is there a college near you? How about an intern to work on it each semester? It could turn into a part-time job for them.

I don't need someone that's just a body, I need someone that's really good at what they do. Every time I've hired a college student, they've ended up being someone that is not dedicated in any way.

My DD will graduate next year with dual degrees in International Studies and Public Relations. What you are looking for will be part of her job duties. She had done the social media for several organizations that she's been involved in and has really excelled at it. If you are looking for someone local, you might try looking for a college student who is majoring in Public Relations.

$250/hour? wow!
my friend started her own lingerie company and went through a few social media persons to blog and tweet for her. some didn't work out because their posts were driving people to the website. some didn't post enough. it's been trial and error finding the right social media person but I know she would never pay $250/hour for someone to do it.

I have a virtual assistant that does all my social media for me for the exact same reason (I hate it but know it's important). She does FB, Twitter and blog posting. No where near $250/hr. holy crap. If you want her info PM me.

The only problem with hiring someone is that it's not just a one and done kind of thing due to the changing nature. Just tomorrow Etsy is making a huge change and SEO is going to be affected; instagram is on the verge of a change that is going to affect views and tags/content/engagement will be even more important than it is now. The whole social media scene is constantly changing and unless you are hiring someone to constantly monitor it (and not just set it up), then you are going to have to at least stay on top of it.
I belong to a group consisting of presentations by experts that do a lot of branding, SEO, photography (you've got that one covered!), etc. There are monthly themes where they present videos and have an open Q&A afterwards. They even have a magazine (Handmade Seller), not sure if that will apply, but it's a pretty phenomenal magazine. I'm attending a 2 day conference in Atlanta where they are going to discuss sales funnels, mindset mastermind, Small Business Storytelling: Sharing Your Passion Profitably, SEO and Keyword Research using the Google Keyword Planner, Email Marketing and how you can use it to get more traffic, creating a stunning digital visual catalog for your products, how to grow your business on Facebook, Wholesale Buying and how to knock out the middle man, Pinterest for your Business, an interactive Product Photography demo and workshop, and tips & tricks to selling on Handmade at Amazon.
The group itself is about $15 a month; the 2 day conference is $189, which is a steal (only open to group members).
As you said, you don't necessarily want to do it yourself, but if you (or anyone) is interested, it's really a great group for building an online business/social media.

I do this in my business but I have a full client load at the moment. I don't know the specifics of what you want done but I'd probably pay a social media VA (virtual assistant) in the range of $30-50/hour for what (I think) you're talking about. But nowhere near $250/hr if that makes you feel better You can also negotiate a package price where you agree on a flat price per month that includes a set amount of posts on the networks you choose. There are SMMs (social media managers) that usually cost more and help with analytics too. Another option is to use something like CoSchedule, Edgar, Buffer, or Hootsuite to pre-load and schedule a bunch of SM content at once. You can even recycle content and make the most of it. I've been trying CoSchedule for my scrapbook blog and it has drastically cut down on time time I spend on social media while getting greater engagement. I have a referral code if you're interested.

I have a mom friend that's SAHM, left her PR/ writing job. She's turned her volunteer work, begun when social media was new, into a small consulting business. Her rates are comparatively reasonable due to low overhead and being a hobby/heart type of job. But she still brings her big time corporate skills to the problems. Maybe you could look for someone like that?

Freebird, hire one of the peaps suggested by these peas at $30 to $50 per hour, depending on their experience.
You might remember that I am an editor. I also write blogs for websites, but I don't do any posting or social media management. Just blog writing. Last week, I just finished up a batch of 30 blogs for a client with more to come.
Often a social media specialist or virtual assistant can do all that for you. Other times, you might want to split up the tasks.
Private message me if you have more questions as I would be happy to help.

I am a SMM for a large fabric company and I agree with this. I also would suggest hiring someone who is very familiar with the market you are selling in. I have had several people want to hire me in their fields of interest, but I try to focus on the craft/quilting/sewing industries to keep the content relevant to my expertise - Not that it can't be done, it's just easier when you relate to your audience on a personal level. I also suggest a flat monthly fee. That makes it easier than trying to break everything down. For example, you might say 12 Facebook posts, 20 Instagram posts, 20 Twitter posts a week for X amount each month. I have been doing this since 2009 and it works the best for my clients and for me. Hope this helps!

Forgot to add ... If you plan on paying for advertising on any of the social media channels, you want someone well versed in analytics and Facebook advertising. It can be confusing

I do SMM, most of my clients I train and they take it over themselves. But I have a few who I do most of it for them. You need to have a clear idea of what you want to achieve or you can really be taken advantage of. $250 an hour is steep. But it depends on what they are doing. I have a client who I write blog posts and website content for. She said she wanted SMM, but she really just didn't want to write. So I write for her... she way underpays me, but she is a friend so I do it for her. Feel free to PM me and I can answer questions or help you with the right questions to ask!
