My Intergrative Medicine doctor has so much business that he doesn't need to take insurance so he doesn't. He charges $150.00 per visit which is a ton of money for me, but I pay it and try to see him only when I really, really need to. I can submit the paper work to my insurance company and they will pay a portion of it, but I have to pay all of it upfront out of my own pocket.
But he is the doctor that discovered I have the MTHFR genetic defect and this cured me of the crippling depression that I suffered with for 10 years and underwent 20 ECT (electric shock treatments for). Turned out it all happened because my body couldn't process B12 vitamins like normal people can. Lack of B12 leads to depression. As soon as I took the proper formulation and amount (prescribed by this doctor) the depression vanished. He is also treating me for adrenal insufficiency which is making a huge difference in my energy levels-and most doctors think this health issue doesn't even exist. Because of this my hypothyroid treatment has to be handled and balanced carefully or the adrenals will be effected. So I continue going to him for these issues. I think my health is worth it.
I also have a GP I now travel over 45 minutes each way to see because he is open minded, will listen to me and answer my questions. He treats me like an alley and an intelligent person. Good doctors are hard to find, and open minded ones even harder.
Debbie in MD.

I listened to one on Monday that connected b12 to MTHFR as well so it is interesting that you bring it up. I will have to do some research and see if there is someone locally to see. I get a lot of info from the podcasts and learn a lot but it obviously is not the same as seeing someone in person and getting one on one care. A friend of mine did go to a place here that does EDS. She thought it was helpful but I still have a hard time understanding how it works. The people that own the place are certified natural health practitioners (cnhp).
