Hi I don't need this now but I want some random information. I used a spermicide cream (as recommended by my OB) many years ago and I will say I never, ever willingly used it again. The pain. Worse than a jellyfish sting.
I have tried to use lubricated condoms, too, unsuccessfully. That means monogamous sex for ______ years with no protection. (He had a vasectomy).
So in theory how do I know if I will be able to tolerate condoms with a spermicide in them if in the past they have given me such discomfort? Do they make condoms without spericide? What would I need to buy if I wanted to buy condoms?
The reason I am asking is I went for a hike today with a friend and we were talking about her exciting love life. She has dated a few new guys and told me about their relationships and where they were going in them... she then told me about the sex, which is cool. Ok.
Then I thought OMG I haven't had sex with anyone except exSO forever. If I ever wanted to get into a relationship (or not) but wanted to have sex, what do I do? I don't want to get pregnant and with 2 periods a month I don't know when I am ovulating but this can't be good. And I also don't want to get an STI or anything like that. What do middle-aged women who can't take hormonal birth control do?

you do make me Laugh!!! anyway - just go to amazon and search for condoms without spermicide.... they are available! You might also want to research sensitivity - you are not alone in this! But maybe you had better buy some, just to be ready!!!

We can't use spermicide. We use condoms without. Skyn brand. Closest thing to nothing we have found, for sensitivity.

Go to the store and buy a box. Test it out alone.

Not sure if it would be an options for you, but there are both low dose and non hormonal IUD options... The low dose is called either Jaydess or Skyla (depending on what country you're in), and it's a physically smaller version of Mirena that also happens to release a lower dose of hormones... I have high blood pressure so hormones - BCP, aren't the best option for me... I'm completely fine with the Jaydess though... And as a bonus, I went from horrid periods to 1-2 days of such little spotting that I don't even need a liner...
Doesn't address the STI concerns, but others have mentioned condoms that don't have spermicide (or lube), so I thought I'd mention the IUDs..

I found out that I had that same kind of terrible reaction to spermicide on my HONEYMOON. Yeah, that was awful. That being said, there are plenty of condoms that don't have spermicide. For me, I would never take the chance to see if I was still sensitive or not. No way in hell.
