I'm going to a drag show with five other ladies tonight and I'm really looking forward to it I've never been to such a thing so I have no idea what to expect but I've heard they are a lot of fun I'm fine with anything as long as I'm not dragged out of the audience ... that would be a nightmare Have you ever been to a drag show? If you have, tell me about your experience! UPDATE: Oh, we had such a great time!!! So professional and so freaking funny The main drag queen, and host, was the one who spent time interacting with the audience and targeted the men 90% of the time ... they were all good sports about it My straight and narrow dh would have been so embarrassed ... I don't think he would enjoy it if he had a drag queen sitting on his lap Anyway, it was a great girls night out and we'll definitely go again Here is a photo of my bff and me at the show

Yes, but it was a million years ago. I grew up in the San Francisco area and we've been a mecca for gay arts and entertainment at least since the '70s, maybe earlier? I don't remember before that. Anyway, it was fun and funny and no doubt politically incorrect. I don't remember any audience participation. Have fun with your girlfriends!

One of my best friends in the late 80's early 90's was a drag performer. Morgan was absolutely beautiful in full make-up. He designed and made all of his own costumes. We spent hours in fabric stores! We were the same size so I was his "Fit Model".
I miss the shows so much. They are so much fun. They didn't really pull people out of the audience but every once in a while a performer would make a comment about an audience member. You have to understand that they joke around.

Be prepared for some of the 'ladies' to look better than you.... Take dollar bills. And some of the other guests may be a little strange.... But it was fun going with some girls!!

None of the drag shows I've been to have had audience participation, and if they did, chances are the people they'd pull up wouldn't be women. I think you are safe, unless you've been passing as a woman this whole time.

Yep, in Key West. I was grabbed by a Queen and kisses on the mouth. Thought my DH and friends were going to die lol. No biggie to me.
I've also been to Drag Queen bingo. Hilarious fun!

There is a place in Portland Oregon that I used to go all the time. It was too many years ago to count tho. It was fun. I never got pulled on stage. but then again I always sat far away from the stage.

I went to my first one about two months ago. My daughter's best friend from high school was in it and we went to support him. They lip synced to 80s songs. We had a blast. The only gripe I had was he looked better than me. I told him I need to have him over to give me make up tips.

Yes, but no audience participation. Tiffany's in Thailand, Finocchio's and SF Asia, both in SF. Great fun, great shows.

Almost 20 years ago on my honeymoon, in Aruba. They were FANTASTIC. DH had no idea they were men until I mentioned it after the show.

Yes! Most recently at Hamburger Mary's. It was more interactive than others I've been to. Maybe because it's a chain?

Only by a guy I knew who used to do soprano opera arias as his act. There was no audience participation. There were many feather boas, though.

I have been to Lips in NYC a couple of times. It is a restaurant/drag show. There was audience participation, but they were good about asking. It was really fun.

Oh, yes, I'm from Portland, Oregon and LOVE Darcelle's. Walter Cole (Darcelle) is 86 years old. I hope I get back to Portland again before he's dead. His troupe is wonderful.

No, but I've always wanted to! I love Priscilla-Queen of the Desert and Hedwig and the Angry Inch. I think a live dragshow would be awesome!

Superb fun! Madame Jojo's in Soho, quite a while ago. If any London visitors or UK peas know, I wonder if it is still there? Be very broad-minded if you visit the ladies' room

My DH worked at a theatre in St.Louis that had a drag show come through for a week. It was a hoot. The only bad thing was, they kept hitting on my DH. He was complimented and repulsed at the same time. Very nice guys though. Oh, yes, lots of feather boas. Lol

yes in Boston where someone was celebrating an 80th or 90th birthday. The family all had pictures of grandma on a stick with the eyes cut out so it was a mask and the hostess of the show grabbed one mask and made some jokes but that was it for audience participation. I've also been to drag queen bingo in San Diego although it's gone now, and a drag king show in San Diego, which is women who dress as men and lip sync. All very fun.

But yes, like the others have said, those queens are gorgeous! Make me feel like an ugly duckling for sure!
Take money to tip them for sure and have lots of fun!

It was such a neat place to be and I can't wait to go back!

yes, often enough in my mid to late 20s. there were several bars in "the village" that would have a break in the dancing and have a drag show, often by that particular bar's "resident queen". there are other places that are actual venues with a whole night of entertainment offered.
i have never been with a group of women and honestly, i think that could get you "called out" since they like to have fun with the ladies. but i wouldn't worry that they would pull you up for anything too embarrassing. it is usually fun and light hearted.
hope you have a great time - report back!!
