Meh, I don't know. It seems to me that this is one way that we put women in a different category. Do we speculate on what size a man might be? If we do, I have missed those discussions.

I like her body. I like that she doesn't have the too skinny look a lot of stars do. I don't find that attractive. I think she has killer legs and amazing boobs. No kidding! I'm fat and barely a B cup! I'd be okay with some extra weight if it went to that area of my body!

I think she knows better than you do what her size is. Beyond that, it's nobody's business. The only reason she said anything at all about her size is because the mantle of being plus-sized was thrust upon her by an article - and she wasn't wearing it. Good for her.
Would we EVER be having this discussion about men? Do we call male actors or comedians "plus sized" and rate their weight and waist size?

Where is your quote and source? That's not what she said. If you look at her twitter feed she said she's between a size 6 and 8. I shop almost exclusively at the LOFT and theLimited where I am a size Small across the board in dresses and shirts and I look like Amy. It all depends on where you shop. She's not plus sized, she's average. Between 6 and 8 is average. To me, that's small.

kernriver these threads never go well because no one in this country wants to admit that anyone is overweight. She looks great, but in those pictures, she's definitely plus-sized. That may be an average American woman size, but it's still overweight. In no way is she a 4-6 or even a 6-8 I those pics unless there's extreme vanity sizing going on. Maybe she's lost weight and is right now a 6-8, I don't know how old those pics are. Lol just put on your flame retardant suit and go with it. You really don't need to defend anything you said. You weren't being nasty.

I am 5'8", weigh 135 and I wear size 10 or 12. But I would love to wear size 6, that way I could share clothes with my kids! (No, they would not like that!) I think she looks more fit at 160 than I do at my weight! I wish I was that toned.

At 5'2 and 160 lbs, I wore everything from an 6 to a 12 on the bottom (usually a 9/10) and a L to 1x on top (I am apple shaped with big boobs). I did work out a lot and clothes fit different when you work out.
I absolutely do not believe she is plus size.

I'll add: I weigh more than that now and can't buy bottoms at Layne Bryant or plus size shops. Way too big for my frame. I just bought pants at Nordstrom in the petite area today.
Body shape makes a difference. Just because it doesn't fit you doesn't mean it won't fit someone else.

sizes vary by manufacturer - bodies vary also - a short gal is going to weigh less at the same size point than a tall gal usually.
I'm 5'8 210lbs 38DDD and I wear a size 14 (trousers - at WM and at JCP) and a size XL (16) blouse. Some years ago (ok 16 yrs ago) before I had my second child, I wore a size 6 and I was 165-170 lbs then
That child is 5'3" and 145 lbs 32DDD - she wears a size 4 trousers (Target, JCP) and a size M (6-8) top. She's curvy and muscular and needs misses not junior sizes. She is NOT your stereotypical size 4
Quite frankly, I have no idea who the celebrity in question is nor do I have a clue as to her height/weight/size - From the photos shared, she seems to have a curvy build rather than the more slender build that seems to be currently in fashion - curves don't equal fat nor do they necessarily equal plus size. She looks beautiful and healthy - good for her!

I didn't say you couldn't. I just wondered why this should be an issue. Because Amy herself brought it up. That's why its an issue. I am commenting on something Amy said. Is that not OK with you? Perhaps you are too sensitive to participate in such a conversatin. Please accept my apologies for offending your delicate sensibilities. Oh, FFS. It was a simple question, just something to think about. It seems like you're the one getting bent out of shape about it. So she said it. Okay. Why question it? What purpose does it serve? I think she looks great, and I really don't give a damn what size she is or says she is. YMMV.

I'm 5'7", weigh around 155 (depending on the day), and wear a 6-8, depending on the brand/clothing item. A lot of it depends on how you carry your weight.
I think she's gorgeous!

Why can't we focus on her talent, not what size she wears? Seriously. I don't care what size Amy is or you or my neighbor or anyone else. If you're ok with your size then who fucking cares what size anyone else is or claims to be.

Just look at the weight loss commercials out there! My issue is how you and the OP could possibly know the size another woman wears. I can *maybe* understand how you could possibly question other celebrities, but this is Amy Schumer who is known for self-deprecating humor and being brutally honest. How could lying about her weight and size work in any positive way for her?

Well, I'm a nurse and pretty good at estimating a weight AND I've been a large range of sizes over the past 3 years so I'm quite confident in my opinion. It's not rocket science to say she's not a 4, 6, or 8 in those pics unless there's some creative labeling going on. That, and I don't care at all if anyone here doesn't like what I have to say about it. I hate seeing the OP getting spanked over it. It would be different if she came here calling Amy a fat cow--I'd be ready to handslap too if she had done that.

When this whole thing broke, I read an article that said that Amy would be wearing designer clothes that apparently are even more notorious for vanity sizing than clothes ordinary women wear. I definitely don't think she's plus size, but I'm really more interested in the fact that she can make me laugh than what size dress she wears.

I think she fluctuates between an 8-10. She's not plus-size. I get her point, but I'm starting to feel like I'm oversaturated by her. She kind of annoyed me when her entire act is so dirty and then some kid made a joke on twitter, "Just spent the night with Amy Schumer. I pretty sure I'm not the only guy to say that..." and then she responded back, "Oh yeah, right because I'm a whore?" Honey your whole movie, most of your act is based on sleeping around. Lighten up!

Back when, I weighed 170 lbs and my favourite pair of jeans were a pair of CKs in a size 8... I'm just over 5'9", and they were whatever 'skinny' jeans were called then...
Oh, and I could breathe and tie my shoes with the zipper up...lol
I don't see any reason why she isn't the size she says she is... Everything from fat/muscle ratio, how/where you carry your weight, proportions (so many actors are shorter and with bigger heads than we realize), her being on tv (which does alter a bit how someone looks), who you're standing next to, their size/proportion...
All that, and the variances of sizing because of brands and cuts/tailoring, and who can tell...
I think the average American woman is around 5'4", 160 lbs, and a size 12... Add 3" to that and a size 6-8 is a reasonable, 'average' looking estimate...

You know, I lost a bunch of weight recently. Enough that I had to almost empty my closet and start over.
Then, for Christmas, my mom gave me a shopping day so that I could buy new clothes. I was really surprised at what the size range I was able to fit into-depending on the store and the style of the clothes. In some places I was thrilled at the new size, in others I almost cried because it didn't seem like that much of a difference.
I still feel fat though. Even though what I am now is probably just curvy. My body image sucks balls, I still look in the mirror and feel like I look like a bowling ball that just kind of rolls around rather than walks. I may wear an 8, but in my mind I wear a circus tent. I dreamed the other night that I was watching a video of myself walking from behind and I looked like the women from the tv show about the 600 pound life.
What gets me about this conversation is that for some people (and I guess I am one of them) it makes it harder to have an accurate self-image if what we compare to is unrealistic wishful thinking. Do I think that she is an 8 the same as me? I don't know. She is about 5 feet taller than me, and has people who tell her what looks good on her...but I don't think she is plus sized. Then again, what do I know? My image of myself is so far off that I don't know if I can trust myself to accurately judge.

I stand corrected. She said between a 6-8. Still, I think thats an exaggeration. and I also believe that we as women are allowed to discuss whatever the hell we want to discuss. I have already stated I think she's brilliant but a bit delusional regarding her size. I think it's all in how she carries her weight. I believe she wears that size.

You weren't being nasty. Not poking at you in particular, but I think some of the disagreement might be between the use of the words overweight and plus-sized... I think Amy is overweight but not plus-sized... When I say overweight, I mean she is closer to the higher end of her healthy BMI range vs closer to the lower end)... That said, BMI isn't perfect and you can be overweight there but underweight based on other criteria... My only point really is that you can be overweight without being plus-sized... So for people to see her have larger thighs, or a softer chin/neck, or rolls on her stomach when she moves, and assume that means she is plus-sized is inaccurate... Overweight relates to a person's physical mass, and plus-sized relates to the numbers on clothes... Separate things...

What sucks is you can't win. It is so common for women to be able to wear a wide range of sizes. Many peas on this thread have made this comment. Amy said she usually wears a 6-8. Chances are there's some 10-12's in there. Forget the fact that she is NOT plus sized by U.S. standards, yet there's her name on the front page of Glamour magazine. Forget the fact that she is not over weight and her BMI is in normal range at 5'7" and 160 pounds. What do women focus on? The smallest size she claims to wear.

Plus sized and overweight are not interchangeable terms. I'm kind of wondering if that is what some people are thinking. Amy can be overweight and not plus sized.
I was overweight at 160 lbs. That doesn't mean I was plus size. Plus size starts at 14----maybe 12.
I'm not delusional. I wasn't delusional. I had a skirt that was a size 6 stretchy jean. I wore M Athleta capris. I mostly wore a 9/10 in a bunch of different brand pants. I shopped in "normal" stores. I still shop for pants in non-plus sized stores.
My mom is overweight but not plus sized. She's about 4'10 and 140 lbs. if she wore plus sized clothing it would literally fall off her body. She wears a petite Large shirt and a 6/8 ish in pants but has a hard time keeping them on due to body type and disability. She mostly buys mediums in leggings.

Vanity sizing is out of control and it makes ordering online really annoying.
And what's the deal with bra vanity sizing? How many threads have I read here where someone with a 38D went in for a sizing and came out a 30G?

She claims to be between a size 4 and 6. She is 5'7" and admits to being 160 lbs. how could this be? She says being 'plus-sized' is great, but she's not plus-sized and doesnt want to be included in that category. i think she's brilliant and hysterically funny, but in no way, shape, or form is she a size 4-6. This post is pure bitchery, nothing else.

Sizing isn't even a real thing, kwim? We all wear different sizes based on the item. It's such a meaningless thing, really. I think it's more meaningless now that it was 30 years ago. Vanity sizing and differences between manufacturers seem to make the whole thing a guessing game these days.
That aside, why do women feel like they have to always discuss or defend their size/weight? When did it start? And why have we opted to let it keep going, I wonder? I don't see men discuss their clothing sizes and weight as often as women, although I do see more of it now than 20 years ago. But really, I wonder why it has to be a topic of discussion for any celebrity, whether they bring it up, or they are asked about it.

I see this thread is already getting heated; but OP, im with you.
There is not a size 4 or 6 in my closet she'd get in. I'm certain there isn't a single 8 in any store I've shopped that would fit her either. I'd assume she buys higher end brands and I find those in denim run smaller yet than most average cost stores.
I just don't get why she would bring it up and say something so foolish. I don't care if she's a 14, but why say she's a 6 when its very obvious she isn't?
Didn't Jennifer Love Hewitt do something like this a few years ago too?

I also wanted to mention that Russell Crowe is hostng SNL and it looks like he's lost some weight. He had gotten pretty chunky but now looks great. I saw him on a late night show this week and did a double take because he looked a little like John Goodman. I think Amy's gripe with the comments on her weight were because she wasn't interviewed by the magazine and was put in the section with Adele and another girl who was not model sized. I think she was reacting to the magazine using her pictures and discussing things about her she hadn't agreed to. I think she has always been pretty cool about her weight and will discuss it when asked. She makes jokes about not being really slender. In my limited experience, the more expensive designers are a little more forgiving with sizes, and maybe she uses those designers. Who knows.
