I'm SO done with my paper trimmer....I've thought I was losing my mind, that it was just the pattern of the paper that played tricks on me, or something, but now that I've gotten really pissed and measured, it DOES freaking cut crooked!!! GGRRRRR!!!! Most of the time I don't sweat it, it doesn't affect much, except lately I've been matting printed paper on a solid cardstock background and it shows up ridiculously. I almost rendered a beautiful piece of pp unuseable because of cutting away so much trying to make it look even.
ANYWAY.....obviously I"m in the market for a new trimmer...I'd love for it to be large enough to have the markings for up to 12" paper. I wish I had a table large enough to just keep it out and open, and have it NOT be the foldaway arm kind, because that irritates me that you lose some of the middle measurements. ( MAN, I'm a whiney butt today! LOL!! Sorry!)
What do you use? What do you like? Any that I should avoid like the plague?

Cutterpillar Crop. Small enough to keep out, but cuts 12x12. Love the light to help cut and the self sharpening blade.

Fiskars Procision. The only one that cuts straight and has done so for several years. I've tried them ALL and purged 11 that didn't make the cut!

Another Fiskars Procision fan. It's big, but it folds in half (no swing out arm) and has a self-sharpening blade.

Thanks for the suggestions. Love my Tonic rotary cutter with extendable arm but it's been discontinued and I can't get parts any more

Good luck with your search for the perfect trimmer.

Another vote here for Fiskars Procision. Love mine! And it does cut straight every time!

Thanks for the suggestions! Where did you purchase the Fiskars trimmer? I checked it out on amazon, but I'm wondering if it's available at say Hobby Lobby or something so I could use a coupon. Is it hard to move around? My desk isn't huge so I usually keep the trimmer on the floor leaning against the desk and grab it when I need it. It looks kinda tall....

justcindy - I purchased at Michael's with a 40% coupon. It's pricey but so worth it. My sales person at M's let me open the box and do test cuts with it. Although I had to buy a sheet of paper first.

@giantsfan - made me laugh that they made you buy a $1 piece of paper. Guess they weren't too desperate to sell that $100 trimmer, eh?

It is easy to move. It folds in half, so you could fold it, set it on end against the desk, then pick it up and use it. It takes a bit more room on the desk when it is being used, but I really like how accurate the measuring is when it is opened up.

Yes, I have found all the inexpensive ones cut crooked. I just straighten it out on my mat. Not a $100 problem.

I've found that most of my cutters will cut 12x12 paper crooked even if I have very carefully aligned the paper correctly at the beginning. It seems that they kind of drag the paper out of alignment as the cut is made. My solution is to begin the cut in the middle of the paper, going up and then back down. This has taken care of the problem for me.

I got mine at Jo Ann's on a 50% off sale and then they had a 20% or 25% off your total purchase including sale items, so it came out to somewhere under $50.00. While it 's still more than a cheap paper cutter, I figure with what I would spend in replacement blades I come at least even if not ahead.
I also really like it and am very happy with how it cuts.
