I got 3rd, my brother got 5th and my mom got 6th place out of 23 cookers. Boom! It was a chili cook off to benefit autistic families in my hometown out in west Texas.
We had a cake auction that had 15 cakes and raised almost $600! Between the 50/50, the cake auction and the cooker entries, we raised a little over $1000 that goes straight back into helping local families.
They are having a playful theater tomorrow, where the autistic kids get to watch a play and there are no rules. They can be noisy, roll around, flap their arms, take a longer intermission, etc...with no judgement because all of the parents there are having the same trials.
They also sponsor a sensory Santa for the autistic children to avoid the chaos of the mall.
And they are working on a program to teach businesses to both hire autistic teenagers in the right position for them, but they are also teaching business how to assist families with autistic families. For example, they will come to a restaurant and do a seminar for the wait staff on how to handle a child that is having a melt down. They will learn what they can do to help the parents with their child.
I think that this is wonderful!

Recipe or it didn't happen.
(Just kidding, you don't have to share your prize winning recipe).
Southwest Airlines employees had their 43rd annual chili cookoff last weekend and we went. I've never been so full of chili in my life and this coming from someone who ate chili for breakfast, lunch, and dinner all 9 months of pregnancy. Man, it took a couple of days to recover from the cookoff.

Girls....I can't share my recipe! There are many secrets, but I can tell you that we don't use spices off the shelf from the grocery store. We order from Mild Bill's spices on line. I also use serrano pepper instead of a jalapeño. I cut holes in 2-3 peppers and then put them in a clean knee high and drop it into the chili. Once the chili is almost done, I squeeze the juice into the chili without getting any seeds in it. It takes about 2.5 hours to make my chili. I create two different spice packets and dump them in at the beginning and then also in the middle of the process. There are so many steps to making competition chili.

That's a lot of work!

No beans...never beans in competition chili. You cannot have anything that marks the chili. No beans, onions, peppers, etc...just meat and gravy.
