I am taking the plunge and going to get eyelash extensions. I am wondering though about tipping. The service is owned by a woman that does it out of her home and is the sole employee. I purchased this on GroupOn and it noted that tips on services should be on the full amount. Here's why I ask:the list price says the value is $175 but I checked around and the going rate is $99 for this service. I feel like tipping on $175 is way too much. Am I being cheap? How much would you tip?

To a business owner? I wouldn't tip a single penny.

To a business owner? I wouldn't tip a single penny. I have heard this as well. Similar to hair stylists. However when I read the note about tipping, I questioned myself. Thanks for the response.

You are going to be spending so much on touch ups and fill ins, be careful what precedent you set if you plan to keep returning to her. Do you think the note on the Groupon is a standard language thing they put on all beauty Groupons? It wouldn't occur to me to tip on eyelash extensions at that price point when the person is the owner and does it out of her home. I think the price is fair (although google around and see what normal is for your city) and this is her way of getting you in the door so you pay full price for touch ups.
I saw it a lot in the past for massage Groupons - $50 and they say the "regular value" is $150 for an hour. Ummmm, no. Normal price in my city would be $65 - $70. And I'd tip on the real normal price of a massage for my area, not the groupon value or the fake inflated regular value. 20% doesn't always make sense when you get into these higher dollar items... have to analyze total cost, who is providing the service/how they are paid, how long does the service take, etc.

I am low maintenance so I thought these would be good because I despise putting mascara on. The tube of mascara is $28 plus tax so my initial thought was I might spend a little more on the extensions if going every three weeks but the aggravation of applying and cost was figured in, I would see a benefit. If I tip $20 for the first visit and then subsequent visits with the $65 fee, that adds up! While I am a good tipper, that's out of my budget. The average price is $99 in my area with follow ups at $60. Since I already purchased the deal, I will use but I probably will not tip her the suggested amount mentioned. I talked with my girlfriend that also does this and she said she does not tip but it's a sorority sister. Zippo help there. LOL!

Tip 20% based on what her normal rate is. It should be posted at the salon.

Make sure you read ALL of her reviews. There is a lot that can go wrong with extensions and in my experience a lot of times people are offering services on groupon for a reason. They're pretty great about refunds If you change your mind or she doesn't check out.

Thanks StephDRebel!
I read her reviews on Yelp and Groupon. I agree I have read horror stories about extensions. I don't want my eye glued shut or my real lashes to fall out. Scary stuff.
