I guess "forever" doesn't mean anything when it comes to the government. Screwed again.

Wish they'd reduce the cost of parcels instead.

And, Global stamps are $1.15 instead of $1.20!

I needed stamps and I waited to buy them until today just so I could get them cheaper.

I guess "forever" doesn't mean anything when it comes to the government. Screwed again. The current higher rates were approved as a temporary rate hike when they were put into place. It was always intended for them to go back to the previous, lower rates. If it's any consolation, the government is screwing with the Post Office far more than all of us in this regard. They're in such a mess right now that the last thing they need is a return to lower rates. Eventually the rates will go up again (and again, and again, and again) and your Forever stamps will still do exactly what they said they would do---work forever, regardless of the current price of a stamp.

I guess "forever" doesn't mean anything when it comes to the government. Screwed again. No need to feel screwed. If you bought stamps at 49 cents, put them away and go buy as many as you like at 47 cents. Save the 49 cent stamps until rates go up again. I'm sure you'll feel better about it.

Somehow, some way, this will be Obama's fault ...

I guess "forever" doesn't mean anything when it comes to the government. Screwed again. I was so mad. It's the principle of it all. They're struggling to stay above water as it is, and then they pull a crappy move like this. They should fire their PR people and use their salaries to reimburse people for their forever stamps! LOL! edited to add- oops. Guess I should have read melanell's post first!

I guess "forever" doesn't mean anything when it comes to the government. Screwed again. actually it means exactly what they said it would. The stamp is still good. It's good as long as the postal service exists no matter how the cost fluctuates. Up or down.

Prices go up, people complain. Now they go down, people complain. I would venture to guess (I used to know) that most people use 10 or less stamps per month. 120 or less per year. At a 2 cent fluctuation that is $2.40. Per year. People tend to think USPS is government/taxpayer supported (it's not) so it's a favorite/easy target.

45 cents for a letter! - wow our letter rate has just gone from 70 cents to $au1.00 .
Quite a jump if you ask me and really would be stopping some people using snail mail and there are those who still use it as not everyone is computer savvy.

I guess "forever" doesn't mean anything when it comes to the government. Screwed again. But isn't that kind of the deal? Like buying stock in the event that the costs go up? And that there is always a chance that the costs could down and you lose money?

They have undue burden put upon by the government and are held to standards that no other company or government division is held to regarding pensions. It is completely ridiculous.

It is completely ridiculous. Exactly. The USPS supports itself BUT congress steps in and makes them Pre-fund Future employee benefits. What other company has to do that? None.
