My ds was invited to attend the Trump rally by a family friend who is involved with the party. Originally he was invited to stand on stage so I was not able to attend with him but when plans shifted and he was going to sit in the VIP area, I was invited to attend as well. I am NOT political, and not a big Trump fan, but I thought that it was such an awesome opportunity since New York does not normally get a lot of attention in the primaries. 3 of the candidates were here today.
We arrived about an hour before the event and checked in, went through a quick security check and were shown to the "VIP" area, which was really the side in the arena behind the podium. We had great seats. A local politician, whose name I don't even know, came out to address the crowd first, along with a local woman who was on the Apprentice. Yawn.
Trump came out pretty much on time and spoke for almost an hour. Lots of "build the wall" and insulting the other candidates. I don't really follow politics so I'm not sure whether this rally was different than others. I will say security was tight -- lots of local and state police, and the Secret Service was running security. There were about 5 or 6 protestors that were shown the door, but it was quick, and with much fanfare from the man himself.
I will say that although I don't like Trump any more than before, it did make my ds who is 12 very excited about the political process and now we can say we have been there, done that!

It's a good thing you went now that they have security in place better. I think it's great experience for your son, whether you agree with the candidate or not.

He was here at an arena that was less than a mile from my house. I wasn't the least bit interested, but if it would have gotten my kids interested in the political process, I might have gone.

.
I think that is why there were not people on stage behind him but instead a podium was placed in front of the VIP section, which was off the of the floor and barricades where the people on the floor stood behind a lot of security.
And yes, I think this was a great experience for both of us. Lots of talking about the political process, freedom of speech (because of all of the protestors outside) and how important it is to vote.

The woman ... was she Omarosa? Nope, it was Jennifer something. She was on Season 2 and was fairly attractive but her speak was lackluster to say the least.

Very neat that you and your son went even if you don't support Trump!

This one! This is her maiden name. She is very attractive and her young daughter was on stage with her, who was adorable.

I'm not political either (although I have been more interested this year than before), but I would have gone if given the chance, especially with your son. What a neat "date".

Coming back with a question - was Ivanka there? I was thinking about that the other day. Does anyone know if she's been involved with the campaign at all?

Ivanka has definitely been involved from the news stories I have seen. She was not there tonight, but she did just have a baby in the last couple of weeks. I don't think any of the Trump family was there. They were not brought out on stage and I certainly was not VIP enough to be backstage...lol.

Every now & then I'll see a picture of her with her kids online. She seems like a very involved mother.
