Oh, I am totally the same way! If my kids started throwing up, I'd try to help them and end up throwing up along with them. Or at the very least, gagging like crazy. Poor kids. They just want their mommy to make them feel better and she can't be near them! LOL! I never tried this, but put vicks near your nose so you smell that, since I think it's the smell that makes us gag. Then tell yourself it's just pea soup to help with the visual! LOL! I don't like pea soup, and that could be why!

OMG me too! I feel so guilty but I just can't do it. My stomach starts dry heaving immediately. Fortunately my DH is a trooper. DS had his bestie spend the night a couple weekends ago and the friend lost it ALL OVER. It was so bad. Twice on the living room carpet, in the kitchen which splashed up the walls and all over the table and chair legs, into the bathroom where he hit both the vanity and the lid of the toilet. I felt so bad for my DH but I honestly cannot help him. I hope your DD feels better soon.

My dad is like that, too. He gets sick at anything. I can throw up and watch people throw up and think nothing of it.
Heck, I see people who are terrified to throw up and they suffer waiting to barf. I feel badly for them. If you are sick (or hungover) throwing up sometimes relieves the sick or at least it can. I throw up at nothing. I get the "eh don't feel good and run" and I throw up. No suffering no nothing. (I don't like doing it but I know it gives relief).
It's still awful, though.

I used to be the mom who was gagging into the sink while my kids were puking in the toilet. Just couldn't handle it. Now I've worked with pregnant/laboring women who puke and in the ER were some nights we have a huge puke-fest going on, and I manage okay. I guess because I'm being paid to do so? I also used to be a big believer in making myself throw up if I felt really nauseous, just because I usually did feel better afterwards. Now, though, I have esophageal varices and throwing up can make them bleed, and if that happens I have a 40% chance of dying from it. So I will do absolutely everything I can to avoid puking!

I used to be the sympathetic puker when I was growing up- if I could hear it, I was joining in. strangely when I became a parent that switch flicked off, and now I can hear/clean up and be fine. altho it's still gross, don't get me wrong.

Well, I don't like pea soup...or chowder for that matter, so not really sure what they in fact, look like. LOL!
And yes, the hearing part too. Forgot about the unique sound!

I'm phobic too! I made a deal with dh who gags at poop (discovered when we got a cat and he had to clean the box). He could have diaper duty excused any time I was there (the majority of the time), and I didn't do vomit if he was around.
I'm a joiner. It's the worst! I hate nothing more than picking up a puking kid from school! I have only ever lived 5 min. drive from the kids schools, but I still have to convince myself the odds are in my favor that they won't be sick in the car in that short period of time.

It's the sound that gets me the worst. I don't like how modern comedies have to have someone puking at least once. It's not funny! They often cover the result but still leave in the noises. It's awful. I'm now leaving your thread because I can't handle it anymore.

I used to throw up a lot. I mean at least once a month or more. Now it's just a couple of times a year. I don't *like* doing it. It just relieves the ick factor. I worry about my esophagus and my teeth. My dentist asked me if I threw up a lot. She can see it, too.

That's me! And dd throws up a lot due to some health conditions and now medication for some of them. Thankfully she's older now and can make it to the bathroom. When she was younger, it was awful. If dh was home he dealt with it while I went into another room and plugged my ears (the sound is bad enough, don't need to see/smell it even). Now she's good on her own usually and I just handle the noise as best as I can.
