In June of 2012 we purchased a Samsung fridge at Lowe's. The only reason we purchased this model is because we have a non standard size space and it's the only one they had in stock that fit. The first 2 years it worked fine. Then we started having issues. We have had a repairman out 3 times. The first time, we paid about $250 to have a part replaced as he said that would help. The second time the same repairman charged us a service call and tinkered with something else. Then the 3rd time we called someone different and this repair guy told us that he sees this problem with almost all of the Samsung fridges that he gets called about.
He said this is what happens: the condensation drainage tube is too small to handle the amount of liquid it needs to. So it backs up into the fridge and the Styrofoam behind the back of the fridge. This then freezes and stops the motor from working. Whenever this happens he said to simply unplug the fridge pull out the crisper drawers and put a bunch of towels down and let it thaw out. Once all the water thaws out of the Styrofoam in about 48 hours plug it back in and it will work again. So we started doing that last summer. Works like a charm!
So when we see a bunch of overflow water in the crisper drawers and then fridge temp starts creeping up that is what we do. In the beginning it was every 8 weeks or so. Now it's once a week. And it's a huge pain in the a**. We have to move all the food out into the smaller apt size fridge we have in the basement. Then when we plug back in, we move all the food back up. Moving all this food every couple days is pissing me off.
I know 3 other people with a Sumsung French door fridge who have the same problem. It's well documented online with thousands of complaints and 2 class action lawsuits related to this defect all the way back to 2005. There is some recall info on this same problem. So I called their support center and was told they never heard of this defect and that there is no recall. I explained all that the repair guy told me, the lawsuits, all the complaints and they just said there is nothing they can do.
We paid about $1,500 for the fridge and only got 2 years out of it before it went to crap. We have also paid about $400 to various repair guys also.
I just don't know what to do. At this point I am over hauling food all over my house every few days so dh and I are looking for a new fridge this weekend.
My mom says I should file a complaint with the Ks Attorney General. Or file a complaint with Samsung to get an official report on record since they told me that they have no official reports of this problem on file. What would the Refu Peas do?

Interesting.
We replaced our Samsung french door fridge. Too many issues. I want to say we paid over $2000 for it and only had it a few years. We did not get water in the crisper drawers but had issues with the temperature.

if there's information online about class action lawsuits, then how can they possibly say to you that there's no record of ever being any issue with it? that's crazy! And if there's recall information about it online, there sure as HECK is information available to the company, because they're the ones who would ISSUE the recall!
If it was me and I called customer service only to be told they don't know anything about it, I'd keep asking to speak to the next-level management person(s) till I got someone who DID know about it to discuss the issue with. (and keep track of the times, names, etc. of all the calls, just in case you need it later.)
As for what to do, though, I think I'd maybe contact the Attorney General, too, but be prepared to not see any money for a good long time, if at all. You might be out of luck in the end, though-- if you get into one of the class action lawsuits, it could take years (if it's still ongoing) until it gets sorted out, and even then they might not settle for enough $$ to replace the fridge.

They are lying to you when they say they have no official reports on record. You can try and make a report, but they won't make it official.
Join in the class action suits if you can because that's the only way you're going to see money off this.

I had the exact same problem going on. We had the repaireman out and he kept fixing parts until the extended warranty ran out (couple years ago). The last time we were out of warranty and we started throwing down with lowes and samsung over it. What we found out was exactly the problem you're having. So we took all the food out for 24 hours, then the repair man came out and pulled the casing off the inside of the fridge in the back and poured hot water down some tube which fixed it.
Which makes me wonder if you don't have some build up in there somewhere in that tubeage keeping it from completely thawing and/or draining completely.

I was so irritated when she kept insisting that there was no record. I told her that there was 1,000's of cases that were documented online. And she told me that they don't have access to outside websites so she was unaware of them. Oh puh-lease! So I told her there was no use talking with her since she was being obtuse and hung up.
My mom just suggested the KS Attorney General. I don't really expect any money out of the deal. But the class action has been ongoing since 2010! At one point the judge threw it out asking for more info or something and the last I can find mention of it is 2014. One of the blogs I was reading had an email address for the attorney's office so I may start with that.
I am just so frustrated with the whole thing!

But the repair guy said that the drainage tube was too small so it easily gets backed up and frozen. Someone online did mention taking a turkey baster full of hot water and shooting it down the drainage tube to help make sure everything was thawed before you plugged it back in. We did watch a youtube video on how you could potentially fix it! So we are going to try that since it just requires a small piece of copper wire.

Seems crazy that you can't just get a different sized tube.

omg are you guys kidding me? We just bought a Samsung French Door within the last 8 months! I notice it makes odd noises I think when the ice maker is working, which is noticeable and I wondered about it.
This makes me SO mad. I thought I did all my homework, I went to the library and checked out Consumer's Report from last July, the kitchen appliance issue and they rated Samsung as high. UGh. I hope I don't have these issues down the line with my fridge, I'm so sorry you are dealing with this!
That's a lot of money to have to keep tossing at the darn thing. I hope it ends well with you!

I had an issue with a 1 year old Kenmore freezer that failed due to defect while we were on vacation and which was still under warranty but which they refused to fix. It was August. In Phoenix. In our garage. And it had sat there for two weeks with thawed dairy and meat. The entire STREET stunk of rotted poultry. It was horrid. They wanted to fix the part and have me keep using that unit. The rotten food juices had sunk down into the components and the foam. There was no fixing it and I was not keeping stinky food freezer because of something I didn't do or couldn't control. I made a stink everywhere I could--facebook, twitter, the AG's office, PlanetFeedback.com, and the Better Business Bureau. Ultimately, they issued me a check to buy a replacement freezer, as well as reimbursement for the lost food.

If there's a recall(s), aren't you able to get repair or something done through that? Since you're outside the warranty, and certainly past the return/exchange time, it seems to me like your options are to buy a new fridge, or continue doing the food switch, defrost, cleanup nonsense. I'm sorry, what a hassle. You should be able to expect MUCH longer life span from appliances.

It sounds like the same problem my parents have with their French door fridge - although I can't actually recall the brand. Instead of unplugging though, they use a hairdryer to unfreeze the the tube. Their repair guy clued them in. Sorry!

Also, sometimes it warms up enough up there to melt some and makes a huge ice cube that jams it. But it does still work. Mine is about 5 years old I think. I have a french door.
