ugh! I can feel a large one forming on my cheek. It's gross, I know. I am at my wits end trying to find something to speed up the process of eliminating these. They appear every few months and only one at a time. I know stress increases the chances of occurring. I have been under a lot of stress the last few weeks. I have tried so many different topical ointments but they seem useless. I have tired hot compresses. I have tried taking oral medications. one thing was semi helpful was a boil away med? I can't remember the name of it. Any suggestions? TIA
update- I iced, spot treated with tree oil and toothpaste but they didn't touch it. I then tried Neosporin suggested by Perumbla and within two hours it had draw the infection out. I was surprised and happy to see it was finally going to subside. It was the ugliest thing and right on my cheek for all to stare at. It made me self conscious. Bad news, a few CM's lower another is forming! I have Neosporin on it now. I did buy some of the Prid at Walgreens to try, thanks ladies!

The only thing that helped mine, until I discovered the cause, was the 2.5% benzoyl peroxide. The normal strength stuff didn't work as well for some reason. I eventually figured out mine was diet related.

I get them on the back of my head just above my hair line. There are a couple of them developing right now. They are big and they hurt. Would putting Sea Breeze (I got some from the hair dresser a while ago) help maybe? I don't know what else to treat them with.

I used to get cystic acne. I started using spironolactone and it has changed my life! That might be overstating things but it really did help.
In the meantime, tea tree oil always worked for me.

I have tea tree oil on hand so will try that tomorrow perhaps? I don't have the others but will venture out tomorrow. I am curious about ghislaine's diet. I know I haven't been eating very well lately.

Birth control pills helped mine coupled with minocycline and adapalene

As I reported on another thread, my son's cystic acne cleared up within a month of starting to take a daily probiotic. He hasn't had a new breakout in about 3 weeks.

My dd ended up on Accutane because of it. That was several years ago. If it became an issue again, I think I would want her to try dietary changes, probiotics, and the Rx Aldactone (brand name... can't spell the generic.)

This won't help to prevent it, but Prid drawing salve has been helpful to me to draw out the infection. It's in a small orange tin. I find that it works best when I apply a thick coat, cover it with a band aid and leave it overnight.

neosporin. That's the only thing that helps mine. It doesn't get to the root cause, but I only get about one a year or so. Neosporin knocks it out in a day. A zit is an infection in a pore. Neosporin kills infections.

Fun Fact: cystic acne was one of the first symptoms of my adrenal cancer.
But...it was a problem that appeared suddenly. I never used to get breakouts of any kind and then suddenly I did.
I hope you find something that works. It sucks. I still have scars on my chest from where it broke out there.

I use my Clarisonic and they usually clear pretty quickly. (I don't use it any other time, so I know that is what does the trick). The cleanser I use is by Clarisonic and it is something with the word Pore in the name. Sorry, I'm not at home to look!

Just saw the Derm yesterday about it. She told me "at my age" they are hormonal. She gave me a face wash that is drying and trentonin. I can't be on the antibiotics right now but she did offer them. Last time it helped.
I hate them. They hurt. They take forever to go away. Grrr.

I'm 42 - you can just tell me if you're in the ballpark with me. I think mine are hormonal too but my derm retired and I haven't found a new one yet.

When my dd gets one every once in a while (they turn purple on her face and she swells up), I take her to the derm. They inject it with something and they are gone within a day. It's freakin expensive because it is considered a small surgical procedure but it has helped.

Sorry about your scars. I know I have a few on my face from the days when I forced the issue. I know gross and super bad for you. But when those suckers come on, they are painful. I had surgery to remove fibroids and cysts twice now. I finally took the plunge to have a hysterectomy because my periods were horrible. They removed an ovary and I was hopeful it would help with the acne thinking my surges would be reduced. Nope. This didn't start until the last ten years and I am so over it. I never had acne like this as teen or in my twenties. Grrr. I am not sure if I would qualify for birth control. I have an oral antibiotic but I really don't like taking OTC meds for something that's not an everyday problem. I guess I need to swallow the pill. Ha ha.

My tumor was hormone-emitting so all my cancer symptoms were related to having too much of the hormones made by the adrenal gland. It was a long list of symptoms because the adrenal hormones control so many different things. I actually figured out I had an adrenal tumor by consulting Dr. Google. I looked up "what can cause [insert symptom here]?" and it brought up "adrenal tumor." There were about twelve symptoms and at the time, I had ten of them. By the time I had my surgery, I had all twelve. Good times.

I eliminated eggs, yeast, kidney beans, almonds, cow's milk, and gluten based on an allergy test done through a naturopathic doctor. I have since reintroduced everything to pinpoint what caused what reaction. For me it was gluten that caused the breakouts.

My daughter had a bunch on her head -- never popped, just under the skin. Went to the dermatologist and they put her on minocycline and they went away.

I didn't have acne in my teens but I recall getting one large bump which I know now was cystic acne in my twenties. It seemed to die down a bit after I had my daughter in late twenties but came roaring back in my thirties. Stupid hormones.

Sorry I missed this, but yes... that's the ballpark! My "treatment" has done jack. I have two new ones. Grrrr. I don't think they understand that they hurt. It's really not about vanity for me it's about pain. I've tried the drying cream last time I had a big flare. It also doesn't touch mine. I haven't tried the neosporin so hopefully that will work for me too!
