It's always fun to see cost differences here depending on where you live. One of the changes that has to be made in the new house is repair and eventual replacement of the fence in the backyard.
I called the fence guy, and unbenownst to me he went out there and took measurements. Cost to add 2 gates to the existing 4 foot fence, plus repair some minor boards is a little over $1,100.
Total replacement, as we'd like to move to a 6 foot fence, is a little over $5,500. This is for 226 feet of fence.
I'm hoping to have that lowered by installing the 6 foot gates now, as we plan to start the replacement at this time next year. The estimator was like well it will look weird. I said, I know I'm also cheap like that.
I'm in the midwest. Anyone replace their fence lately?

Just to buy the stuff for 50 feet of 6ft tall wooden fence was around $300. If we chose to do the whole yard with that, it'd be more like $2,000.
We installed a chain link fence at our previous house - over 500 feet worth and that cost us nearly $1,000 for everything. It probably would've been another $500 or so in labor if we had hired someone to do it.
Our next place will have the fencing all done. I don't want to install another fence if I don't have to.

we're in Michigan. last year we had about 175' of black chain link 4' fence, 1 gate, installed and it cost about $2500. this was thru an independent installer, not Lowe's or something. The gauge was slightly thicker than average fencing as well, so it's supposed to last a long time. It wouldn't have been my first choice of material, but the entire back of our yard is already fenced with black 6' because it borders a park, so we wanted it to match. Have had no issues with it, and it looks really nice actually.
Our neighbors went with a 6' high composite privacy fence, it cost them almost $15k for pretty close to the same amount of fence. It runs down a shallow hill, and you can see that the uprights are not level like they should be, and the whole fence itself is tilted in that direction. it's brown and shows all the bird poop. and last year one of our guests was roughhousing and accidentally ran into it and broke 2 of the boards which were $300 to replace, tho our neighbors refused our check after initially asking for payment. not a fan of that fence.

DH is doing it himself.
We are finally doing a deck this year, and his plan is to have the deck go almost right to the property line on the side we need a fence, with privacy fencing all along that side of it, wrapping around with a door on the side facing the street so we have access on that side of the yard.
The other side of our yard is already fenced in - the new neighbours a few years ago wanted a fence, DH built it and that covered our portion of the cost.
He aims to get all the wood & supplies for his plans for around $3000, so here's hoping!!

So what would you pay for a new fence? Depends upon my neighbors. . . Good fences and bad neighbors? Priceless.

Kellie, want to send him stateside? Missouri is tropical in July and August! lol Depends upon my neighbors. . . Good fences and bad neighbors? Priceless. Amen. Our plan is to inform the neighbors of what we're doing, as to just put in a fence wholesale means doing it on our side of the property, and ignoring the one that's currently there. I'm hoping to get permission to take down the existing one and put in the one we're paying for. At our expense of course. But if the post holes can be re-used then that's a win. Plus it seems silly to have our fence next to the current one.

In 2014, I had a 6' fence put around 3 sections of my garden to keep the deer and bunnies out. The fourth part of the perimeter of the garden was already fenced with a 6' solid privacy fence. The new fence has 3 laterals per section made of pressure treated wood. The fence itself is a 6' piece of chicken wire. There are 2 custom made gates. Labor and supplies cost me $1500. Finding chicken wire 6' high was apparently a pain and it had to be ordered off the internet.
My landscape guy had 2 guys on his crew who built it on their own. I know it sounds weird, I mean, who builds a chicken wire fence that tall? I needed the height to (try) to keep the deer out but I also needed as much light as possible to go thru the fencing. As the laterals age, they will go from the yellow of treated wood to the grey of aged wood. The chicken wire will not rust and will become virtually invisible, except for the sections covered with climbing roses and clematis. I put an arbor over each gate, so the roses and clematis can climb them, too.

I don't remember the exact amount. Our backyard is probably 0.19 acres. We did a vinyl fence with 2 gates and I think it was around $5000.
ETA: We did not do the installation.

I want to say I paid about $4000 last summer to replace our 6 foot privacy fence. 2 gates, plus a board along the bottom to make everything more even. They put in some fancy anti-sag hardware on the gates.
I considered trying to do it ourselves, but we rebuilt one gate and it didn't last long.

My neighbour and I are just going halves on a 21m (68 foot) wooden fence that's 1.2m (4 foot) high. Cost in Auckland,New Zealand is NZ$2,200 inc GST which is about US$1523 for materials and labour.
